Kevin, this is by far my favorite video from you. I can't even tell you how many times I've watched this. As you get notes from the blend and interweave it into a fond memory is truly special. I’m currently smoking Capstan Blue out of the exact same pipe-what a happy accident. This is my fifth bowl since I picked up the tin, and it’s quickly becoming one of my favorites. Today I finally experienced that breadiness. This blend feels like home. It’s simple, subtle, and essential. It’s like eating the white of toast and occasionally grabbing some honey suckle and sucking the sweet nectar from its grassy stem.

This is by far the best pipe tobacco review I've ever watched, and you're an exceptional storyteller. Thank you very much for all your videos and the effort you put into them.

Kevin, you are an amazing reviewer who can make the flavors of a tobacco real just by describing them. Best of all, you are a master of narrative. The stories you have shared are both personal and personable. You make those loving recollections part of our experience as well. All of the notes you mentioned are so familiar to me. I spent my early years on our family farm. Our home was on a corner of one of the fields and had no front or back yard in the conventional sense. Along one side was a small orchard. Across the back was our vegetable garden. Across the front was a row of citrus trees; oranges, lemons, and grapefruit. Our 'front yard' was rows of berries and strawberries. Although there was a paved road that ran by the house, all of the roads on the property and between the fields were dirt roads that produced the softest, silkiest, deepest layer of dust my bare feet have ever shuffled through. Thanks for bringing up some of my own great memories by sharing yours. When you fanned out the Capstan Blue flakes, my first reaction was that you had a guaranteed winning hand.😉 The churchwarden is a beauty, my friend, good eye 👍 The weekend is nearly upon us. I have watched your videos before. The last two days, I watched a lot of your videos is a row. Well this video was by far the best pipe tobacco review I have watched in my life. (And I have watched many, to say the least.) I know we can’t expect this level of review and insight for every tobacco. Capstan blue really is special to you. That’s obvious. But the way you chose to bring us into you nostalgia and memories from the time you were young with life at your grand mother’s farm… it seriously brought tears to my eyes. Having only recently begun following you, this comment comes a woeful 2+ years after the video. This was a delightful video and a very thoughtful review of this fine tobacco. I truly enjoy both Capstan flakes, the Blue and the Gold, though I think they are referred to as "Navy" more by their flake form than by their constituents. They each wonderfully fill a specific niche based on what kind of day it is and the mood I'm in. I would put them side-by-side within my top 20 favorite tobaccos.

This tobacco, however, really isn't all that great, but the aroma brought back some of the fondest memories I've had as a child that had been forgotten. Your personality or persona is that of a true country gentleman and I find it so refreshing living most of my life in Los Angeles. I read the Hobbit and TLOR for the first time at 15 and I too went on that adventure with Bilbo and Frodo. All of us who read it were there. I know you know what I mean. My fave Virginia. Hands down. I can smoke half a bowl at night and fall asleep and it's one of the few tobaccos that is even better on the relight the next morning.

Thanks for sharing! This brought back some warm memories of my childhood. I was smoking Davidoff blue mixture and I don't know if it was suggestive but I started to notice tea notes that took me back to a black cup of tea with my Dad, tea bag bumping my lip as I get to the bottom of the cup.

Best video yet!!!! You brought back some great memories for me. I too grew up on a farm going to grandmas house for strawberry preserves fresh green beans, corn on the cob and perfectly ripe tomatoes. Every Sunday after church we had the best lunch no money could buy. Depending on the time of year, we would go pick a fresh watermelon out of the patch. Sometimes we can make homemade ice cream and take turns churning the handle. Thank you for this awesome video

Very nice story, and very well described. Capstan blue is the pipe tobacco that I have smoked the most of in all my time as a pipe smoker. Well over a hundred tins now. It never gets old to me. I found out about the tobacco brand 'Capstan' while watching a documentary about WW2, where they showed old black&white footage that was recorded in London at the time of the war, and there was a bus driving around in the city that had a big banner with 'Capstan' written on it. And then I remembered that I saw a tin with the word 'Capstan' on it at my local tobacco store, and so I tried the one in the blue tin. It was such a wonderful smoke, and so it became my all time favorite pipe tobacco.

That tin sound when opening. Dang I love it, almost like a kid at Christmas. That flake looks absolutely delicious Kevin. Cool ring as well by the way. Sounds like a hardcore sea adventure tobacco to go and steal from other pirates. Lol

I think the idea of “sipping” a tobacco is true of many. I find that if I have overheated a tobacco or gotta my pipe a bit warm to the touch a fair amount of tobacco will loose certain flavors and just kind of become more “cigarette” tasting if that makes sense? Great review as always, now I’m off to add some to my cart for next month.

Finally tried some Capstan Blue and I have to say I love it. It was a long, slow burning smoke with a lot to uncover. Unfortunately I got the ready rubbed and wish I had gotten the flake, even so it was wonderful. Smoked it in a Peterson Arklow 106 shape.

Nice touch with Aragorn's ring and Tolkien's favorite blend. On the correct finger too....

Smoking my first ever bowl of Capstan Blue flake right now as I watch Kevin’s review like I always do with a new tobacco. Using a Missouri Meerschaum Country Gentleman with blue swirl Forever Stem. Pretty good so far. Wondering if I should buy a second tin and leave unopened to age a year or so.

One of my favorite blends. Smoked many a tins. I recommend trying it this way and see how it works for you. For both Capstan and HH Pure Virginia, I do not give any dry time, roll the flake up like a cigarette, then take scissors and cut them into 1/4” cubes, gravity fill, and your off!! Best of both words. Lights easy, stays lit, gives you the sweeter, deeper flavors of fold and stuff, but the easy smokability of rubbing them out, and it keeps the bowl cool to the touch. Try it out and let me know what you think. Great review bud!

Just wondering if you've had a chance to try any of Peter Stokkebeye's VA's, LNF or LBF , two that I enjoy as well as the Orlick GS that you reviewed. Did not find them in your playlist. Just an aside since you seem to be a Hobbit fan I have completely by accident, a pipe in my collection given to me by my son on a Father's day many years ago. A churchwarden from Savininelli stamped or labeled Gandalph it is a 602 bowl shape. It is one of my favorites. As I understand very few of these were made before legal issues forced the discontinue of the Gandalph name stamp on the pipe.
