I appreciate your videos Dan. I learned a lot of basics, and started doing it towards the end of summer last year. After quite a few houses, I came up with ideas and products to use that made me work more efficiently. I still do enjoy your vids. I'm sure all the negative comments and the bunch, of know it all's could get annoying. I'm excited to wash in the spring!

Hey Dan, try a longer wand on this surface. I use a 6' long wand on mine it's 15" keeping it farther away makes it float better. You shouldn't have to apply downward presure so I think with longer wand it will help you out. I do slot if surface cleaning with mine and have no problem controlling it, have been using same one for about 4 years.

Just stumbled onto this old video. Thank you for the honest review. I just finished cleaning my 340" driveway with my neighbors Briggs and Stratton surface cleaner. For what it is, I was very impressed. He is hard on his equipment and it never gave me a moments trouble. It convinced me to purchase a cleaner of my own but also look at the competition. From what I can derive if using a 2.5 - 3.5 gpm pressure washer, the light weight and vented hood of the Briggs and Stratton is what gives it its hover and control capability. Yes, I did clean and grease it after I was done, very easy.

I had similar problems with the SJ 11” Surface Cleaner. Every time I pushed it forward the back would kick up and the only way it would work is if I dragged it backwards or from left to right. I ended up getting the GW Surface Cleaner, same size- 11” and it solved the problems. Go figure that a competitor brand would be better for your SJ Pressure Washer.

I use it with a 2700 psi, 3 gpm Pressure-Pro and it works very well. It comes with 25020 nozzles, which of course means 25 degree, 2 gpm apiece. So, it will handle up to 4 gpm. If you had a smaller pressure washer with less flow, you could get smaller nozzles.

With a little while away like that 14 incher you have to turn your regulator down that were the ways meant for a 2500 PSI machine and maybe 3000 PSi presurewasher looks like you have a 4000psi you should use a 16 or 18whirlaway for best results

Dan, you need to come up with some type of bracket to make the surface cleaner more stationary. Almost like what you see on a heavy duty push broom. Have 2 bolts holding a triangle shaped bracket down to the surface cleaner, backing it up with large washers to distribute force on the plastic. Then with the top of the triangle bracket, have a hinged clamp with a wing nut on it tightening on to your wand, so you could always take it off. + If you wanted to get more complicated, you could always mount some small casters on it too. Just a thought.
@DansVlog
@DansVlog 6 жыл бұрын
I mean really I would just return it and get another B&S for $80. Way too many options to be stuck having to modify this one. A 16" with the handlebars will be better but its a different price bracket.

@DansVlog
@DansVlog 5 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you are pushing too much water for the tile jobs when using a smaller unit but the GPM's is more spread out when using the bigger units. 4 inch of surface cleaner per each GPM of pump. Maybe get a lesser pump set up for tile jobs and you can more easily sling around a lighter smaller surface cleaner when on a roof? That's what I would do (I have noodle arms) LOL

What is the size of the tips on the b.e. with it lifting like that is more likely because of the smaller size per gallon tips. If you change the tips to match your gallon per minute machine.. divide by 2 per gallon. ( 4gpm ÷2= 02) so tips would be 25°02 or up one size to 25°03x2... or go wider tips like 40°03.
@DansVlog
@DansVlog 3 жыл бұрын
I understand them to be the 40 degree tips but I could be wrong
@Sibahan
@Sibahan 6 жыл бұрын
Dan, it’s a lil small for your machine. That’s why it’s lifting. A 16 Inch would be better. But if you add a small weight plate, it helps keep it on the ground.

Hey Dan, I bought one of those mid way through last season and after only 6-7 jobs it failed. The bar underneath spins, the water comes out with good force but the bar remains stationary. You can spin it with your hand and it will spin, but the water won't spin it. I had great success with it before that. The control issue for me was the use of a longer wand gave me more stability. Good luck, look forward to more videos.
@DansVlog

That tells me that the water pressure is causing the moving part to shift and lock up. Maybe try taking it apart if possibe and see if maybe an o-ring seal or metal spacer needs adjustment/replacement.
@richardcarlson2242
@richardcarlson2242 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Dan / Dirtdetective...I took mine apart. There is no O ring seal to keep the water away from the bearings. And the bearings are NOT lubricated. That hole with the ball at the top of the bearing case is not adequate. Putting oil in there is a joke. The bearings are sealed and cannot be lubricated from that hole. You have to remove that tin seal and manually grease the bearings. Personally I dont think this is a good design.
@dirtdetective344
@dirtdetective344 6 жыл бұрын
Hey Richard, did yours fail also? If so in what manner?
@richardcarlson2242
@richardcarlson2242 6 жыл бұрын
Dirtdetective......It didnt fail But I broke the case so did a fiberglass fix. The reason I took it apart was because as I turned the wand I did notice a very slight sound. Being aware of bearing failure with automotive I suspected a bearing problem of sorts. Thats when I noticed the bearing bone dry. Personally I think this is overpriced. Yes there is a certain amount of quality but that bearing needs grease. A built in failure from the factory. As I mentioned that little hole on the the top does not allow the oil to get at the ball bearings......
@richardcarlson2242
@richardcarlson2242 6 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply...I didnt see your question until today. And about that wand not turning. It seems a little bit heavy from the get go. I wonder if yours is out of grease. Its an easy repair if you cant return it. Start with a wrench on the shaft ..just under the wand and unscrew the wand...Then then use the allen wrench to remove the bottom that holds it all together. You will see the two ball bearings. To grease them is easy...just pry up that tin cover and they are right there. Push some lightweight grease into the bearings and pop the cover back on. For me its simple anyway...if you havent done it before then its a good learning experience. BTW even vaseline is a good "grease"

Have u ever thought of getting a surface cleaner that doesn't connect to a wand? I've learned a lot from your videos. Thanks. i broke down and bought a surface cleaner for my 4gpm, 3500. 20" hammerhead. I think it's a little too big for 4gpm but i just go slow. Some units are hard for tall people to control without ending the job with back pain. That thing would not work for me. Pushing down on the shaft creates a painful back angle. I've had trouble with push or driven mowers, string trimmers, edgers - all because the short handles make me lean over, result is back pain. It needs a longer shaft and an adjustable handle on the shaft so whether short, medium, or tall the user can have a comfortable grip angle.

Tip: to make it clean more aggressively: rotate the nozzles so that the oval holes are at right-angles to the arm. The stripes will be smaller and you will have to go slower.

Hey man I gotta question about surface cleaner,I have a 4gpm 4000 psi machine and wanna buy a Briggs and Stratton surface cleaner do I have to much power?And also have you ever pressure washed a deck with one?Im wondering if the small surface cleaner will put just the right pressure
@DansVlog
@DansVlog 6 жыл бұрын
You are pushing it on the PSI. It could blow out the ORing seals. If so, just return it. I have not done a full wood deck but yes It can be done
@SirFlipAlot
@SirFlipAlot 6 жыл бұрын
So the Briggs and Stratton won't damage a wood deck? I'm planning on having a general pump hammer head for driveways sidewalks etc then having a smaller less powerful surface cleaner for decks if it won't damage the wood
@DansVlog
@DansVlog 6 жыл бұрын
Travis Whitener nobody can see that somethings not going to get damaged from the comfort of my home through a KZfaq comment but in my experience You should be fine. I have used it on wood in the past but not an entire deck like you are asking about.

Darren Garlough I bought one. Used it yesterday for the first time. Works amazingly. 4200 psi. I did my driveway in 5 minutes and sidewalk in less than a minute. The wheels are nice until you get to the edge of a sidewalk or something. I’m thinking about taking them off.

Try putting some small coaster wheels on it. It would glide better and give it some weight to hold it down.

maybe you had too much pressure and it's floating too much? I'm thinking of this one too, it's on sale at my local store. Maybe for a professional setup you should have gotten the one with the handle bars? I think then you jump to a 16" or 20" I can tell by watching you use it, it would only be good for my driveway. My walk is too bumpy to use this on. Thanks for a good review.

I think the mistake they made with this 14" model is not having a built in handle like their 16" model. www.ultimatewasher.com/images/be-pressure/16-flat-surface-cleaner2-big.jpg It would give it so much more control. Great review. Have a great New Year Dan!! Thanks for all the inspiration. I started my own company in September because of all your videos and your motivation. Thank you!

I had this exact surface cleaner, and had nothing but problems with the rotary arm constantly stopping rotation. It is too bad; I have had a lot of other good BE products.

@@DansVlog I removed the tips (harder than it looks!), ensured there was no debris, and reinstalled them. Within minutes the rotor stopped again. I went back to my supplier, and he told me that he had nothing but issues with that model for all the same reasons; he refunded me completely, and stopped selling them as well. I had two larger BE surface cleaners and they performed flawlessly for years. Take care, and stay healthy.

I have the exact same BE surface cleaner and have no problems with it lifting up or tilting at all. My guess is that your 3600 psi is too powerful. I am using a 2700 psi pressure washer and bought this 14" because the 20 " one that I was renting I did not have enough power to make it work.

I had that Briggs and Stratton model and used it for 2 hours straight. Then the water was coming out of the center where you take it apart and grease it. Talked to Briggs and Stratton and all they could tell me was to take it back and go get another one. Rather have more of a commercial one.

Hi all you pressure washing kings over there in the U.S. I'm looking to start a small business here in the U.K and am researching the best equipment and procedures to adopt in order to obtain the most responsible and effective results for my customers. I'm wondering should I carry my own supply of water, should it be heated and what pumps and washers should use? Cheers Geoff
@DansVlog
@DansVlog 6 жыл бұрын
Hey Geoff, good questions… If you’re going to run up pump higher than 6 gallons per minute you’ll need your own water supply because most homes water Spicket‘s will not provide enough water but even though you might have your own large tank to feed your pump you will still hook up a garden hose to keep your tank topped off at every job you go to or you will go broke. Should you go heated or not heated will depend on what you intend to wash. If you can afford it you might as well get it with the heated ability. As far as brands, I always recommend people to shop close to home and what’s available locally To help with warrantee and parts. It doesn’t make sense to purchase an awesome pump if you can’t get parts to keep it running.
