Thank you for your videos. I'm new to the clarinet. I like the clarinet so much that I bought a second clarinet from the folks that make this system. My used Yamaha 250 clarinet is great, but I think it was fighting me. So I bought a clarinet and this reed shaping system. Next month I will get my used clarinet tuned up, so that i can use it as a spare or loan it to anyone who wants to learn how to play also. I'm teaching myself, but I may get instructions too. I love the ATG system. Enables me to get 8+ playable reeds(responsive with good tone) out of a box vs 3-4. I have found that one need's to do both the Side-to-Side Dynamic Response Test(which Cally demonstrated) and the Dynamic Response Test as described in Tom's book and video to get the reed in it's best possible condition. It takes some careful experimentation to really learn how to use the system correctly but it is well worth the effort.

Seems rather extravagant when all you need is a smooth,hard, flat surface and fine sand paper and block. Also at the end of the playing session l take the reed off the mouthpiece and place it on a smooth steel plate covered in a sturdy plastic film (this keeps the steel from corroding) Then l place a small strong magnet on top of the reed and this flattens the reed out. Over time the lip pressure on the reed makes it curve towards the mouthpiece tip thus reducing the opening. When l play the next day, the reed is back to its original shape.

Great video Cally. I have been using the ATG system for more than a year. I am really liking the results. Gets rid of the stuffiness and makes the sound come out easier when I blow into the instrument. All in all a good tool. A how to balance a reed class should be in every classroom.
