The Gaggia Cadorna Prestige offers the best combination of features, value, convenience and performance in bean to cup super automatic espresso machines. In this review a cost per coffee comparison to Keurig K-Cups. Household of 4 could save $1,000 or more annually and enjoy better coffee plus specialty beverages like lattes, cappuccino, flat white, cafe au lait, cortado, true Americanos and more! Compared to competing machines you'll get a lot more for a lot less.

I recently bought Cadorna Prestige. Now rewatching this video again, and want to add few observations from a less rosy perspective. The price comparison is based on 10 grams of whole bean coffee, but at 4:55 Mark says that a double shot uses 13-23 grams. The $0.51 per Keurig capsule is on the high side, you can find a lot of quality options for under $0.40 if you buy in bulk. I don't think this machine will pay for itself anytime soon, but at the same time, it is probably better compared to Nespresso rather than Keurig. The $0.75 5-6 gram Nespresso capsules are expensive. There is one big advantage of the capsule system- you can switch coffees for each and every cup, brew teas and other drinks, while Cadorna can't even take Italian Roast or flavored beans.I had high hopes for americano- a commercial Jura machine in m local IKEA blows out of the water Keurig or drip coffees of similar size. But Gaggia's americano is watery and has a flat flavor. I don't know why- I used the same coffee beans as in this video, bought from WHL. Maybe because its espresso pull takes 10-12 seconds instead of 25-30? (I tried to adjust the grinder, it didn't help). The mug sizes- while the machine takes tall mugs, it can't be programmed to fill them in one step with anything, but simple coffee. The programming options are limited, you can change the temperature and volumes, but nothing more complicated. For example, you can't program americano with milk on top. When I want to have a 10oz mug in the morning I have to brew Americano and cappuccino in sequence. Foaming milk with steam is the traditional way of doing things, however, what Cadorna is making is nowhere near "cafe quality"- the bubbly foam looks like something you see in a washing machine. The Nespresso Aeroccino foams milk with no steam or water, the foam is silky and smooth. Truly ingenious invention. The Cadorna milk carafe needs frequent manual cleanings or it starts to smell. And on the subject of cleaning- the machine rinses itself every time it is turned on and off. This is nice, but make sure you always have something under the spouts to catch the water. It still dumps water into the tray, expect to empty it daily. With all the cleaning cycles it goes through the water fast, why this machine has no window to check the water level? The $150 Keurig and Nespresso machines have clear reservoirs and their drip trays may stay dry for weeks. If I shopped for a superautomatic now, I'd probably get the cheapest Cadorna or some other machine with no milk option and use Nespresso Aeroccino with it.

I got the Cadorna prestige the other day it seems like a good machine however I wish the XL cappuccino had double shot vs regular cappuccino just allowing more water and milk on the slider scale isn't enough it just waters it down. Unfortunately the flat white only goes up to 200ml why limit the output so low, total could be brought up to 300ml for mugs to compensate. Currently dropping an espresso shot then cappuccino xl on top, If there is a way to get this done i'd like to know.

I bought this on the recommendation. I have been using this for about 2 months now. I will say first off it makes a very good cup of coffee. Long black coffee and americano is really good. The issue with this machine is the milk carafe. Nightmare to clean and I never get the requested volume. I have read lots of reviews saying the carafe has not worked properly. What is worse is I have been in contact with support now for over a week and can't get it resolved. I will say I bought this in ireland so it has nothing to do with wholelattelove.

Hi Mossy, Key when using the milk carafe is keeping things clean - that's true of any machine which uses automatic frothing. always best to do the automatic "Quick Rinse" if you will not be doing another milk drink withing 10 minutes or so. Automatic deep clean goes further if using a product like Urnex Rinza or you can disassemble the frothing components and clean manually. Delivered milk volumes depend on milk type being used as some hold more air than others. Some differences between say whole fat milks, lower fat milks, non-diary milks, etc. I've even had differences for same basic milk type from different sources. Marc

@@Wholelattelovepage thank you for that Marc much appreciated. I do keep everything very clean and have tried different milks. I do really appreciate the help on this. I have seen quiet a few reviews that say the same. Hopefully the local support will help me. They are looking for $170 for a new carafe which i think is pretty over priced.

Hi Dave, The milk is not adjustable. But you'll get that creamy mouth feel by choosing drinks which make the espresso first then the milk like the flat white and others. The change in prep order of milk/espresso makes a big difference. I cannot compare to the Philips as I have not used one. Marc

Dave, do not get the Phillips. I had the Philips 4300 LatteGo, and no matter which milk I tried, it always came out more watery than with a good froth. The espresso shots alone were not great either. You might be better off getting the same one but with the classic milk frother instead.

Hi Marc I just purchased the cadorna prestige machine after watching your videos about it. Two questions i have about it: 1. The espresso comes out pretty fast , about 10 seconds for a 40ml espresso, and i already have the grinder on the finest setting. Is this ok? Shouldn't a shot of espresso be about 20-30 seconds long? Or is this not important in a super automatic? I don't see any flow control option on it. 2.The cup warmer doesn't seem to be getting really warm, so it doesn't seem to warm the cups really, is this something you noticed?

Hi Gabriela, You are welcome! I'm not familiar with the model: Gaggia Milano Prestige. Perhaps you meant the Gaggia Magenta Prestige? Love your reviews. Can you tell me what the Cardona Prestige warranty is and how does it perform over time? Does it tend to break down more often? Does it standup over time like the JuraE8
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 2 жыл бұрын
Hi TT, Thanks for the comment. Purchased from Whole Latte Love: www.wholelattelove.com/products/gaggia-cadorna-prestige#product-specs It's a 2 year parts and labor warranty. The machine does not tend to break down. We get regular reports of 10,000+ brew cycles with nothing more than routine maintenance. That maintenance is important! For instance, run hard water through the machine and fail to do the descaling when the machine alerts and you're likely to have problems down the road. Marc

Hey Marc- trying to decide between the cadorna prestige and the Babila. Can you please give a quick pro/con to help with the decision?
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Thomas, Thanks for the question. I used a Babila as my daily driver in the studio for more than a year and liked it a lot. My favorite feature was the flow control dial on the spouts. I used that daily as I made both espresso & milked-based espresso beverages and long coffees. With the flow control I could leave the grind setting alone and decrease flow rate for espresso and increase flow rate for long coffees. A few months ago I replaced the Babila with the Cadorna Prestige as my studio machine. It's used by me and 2 of my colleagues for 6-9 drinks per day. The UI on the Cadorna is far superior to the Babila's. We appreciate seeing all the drink parameters prior to making a drink and having the ability to make a quick change to any of those and save if desired. With 3 of us using the machine we make use of "My Favorites" so we can each store our own custom version of each drink. With the Cadorna I switched from making long coffees to Americanos so I'm not missing the flow control of the Babila. Compared to the Babila, we appreciate the front access to the water reservoir and used coffee drawer. With the Babila one has to avoid overhanging cabinetry with its top access water reservoir. My favorite milk drink is the flat white. The Cadorna makes it right using 2 grind cycles for a true double shot. The Cadorna has more drink options like caffe au lait, cortado, properly made Americano and flat white. Bottom line is better milk drinks and far more options. After using both machines we all prefer the Cadorna. It has features found on more expensive machines, more drink options, superior UI and similar if not easier maintenance with less complex frothing components. One thing it does not have is a manual steaming wand like the Babila which can do latte art quality frothing. Personally I rarely used the manual wand as I have access to high power semi-auto machines in the studio as well. Hope that helps! Marc

Thanks for the videos. I'm looking to replace a 10 year old Syntia, and trying to get the best espresso shot from a superautomatic. Second priority is getting a latte-sized cappuccino with a lot of foam. I'm trying to decide between the Cadorna Prestige and the Babila. What should I consider? (Or should I move up to the Accademia?)
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Kev, The Babila and Accademia are very similar machines. A key difference is the Accademia has three different froth densities programmable in milk drinks. With the Babila it's one density. The Babila and Cadorna Prestige do a milk froth that's in between a super-fine cafe latte style and airier cappuccino style. If you want an aireir froth you might be better off using the manual frothing wand available on the Accademia or Babila. With those you can froth to your desired texture and temperature. Marc

Mark I am watching all your videos - over and over. I am torn between babila and prestige. I love the look of the babila but I love the Inferface and all drinks of prestige. Which is the best machine and does 1 boiler vs 2 ( babila ) make a difference ? What’s your choice ?
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 3 жыл бұрын
Hi George, thanks for watching. As you might know from watching my vids the Cadorna Prestige has been my daily driver in the studio for more than 6 months now. Prior to that I've had the Babila and Accademia as daily drivers for extended periods. Two boilers in the Babila speeds up milk drinks a little bit. I agree with the drink selection and interface on the Cadorna. Another key difference is flipping of milk prep order depending on drink being made on the Cadorna. The Babila does not do that. On the Cadorna I love the flat white and true Americanos. Also like the easy adjustment of drink parameters on the Cadorna. If you drink a lot of straight espresso the Babila with more grind settings and flow control allows for more control of extractions. If you like your milk drinks unusually hot the only way to get there is manual steaming which you have on the Babila. Be aware of the height of the Babila if you have overhanging cabinets. It's a tall machine and water fills from the top. My choice is the Cadorna Prestige. Keep in mind I have high-end semi-autos available for straight espresso so deep control of espresso extractions in a super-auto is not important to me in super-automatic machines. Hope that helps! Hey GW, A bean to cup super automatic is much easier and cleaner to use than a semi-automatic like the Gaggia Classic. The Cadorna does have an adjustable grinder but if you're always doing espresso based beverages then you'd likely just set to the finest setting and leave it there. Marc

@Wholelattelovepage 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Y, You are welcome and thanks for the question. I think many reviews saying milk is not hot enough come from those who are newer to milk based espresso beverages and think that they should be as hot as a standard cup of coffee. Be aware well trained baristas steam milk to 135 - 150F finished temp. That's the temperature where milk gains the most apparent sweetness due to heating. Go hotter, and sweetness quickly declines. A properly made latte should be at a temp that allows for quick drinking. That said the Prestige produces a milk froth that tends to be higher than most competing machines. Variables like starting milk temp, cup type and ambient temp do affect finished drink temp. For warmer drinks pre-heat cups. Marc

Unfortunately the last one had faults I couldn't fix myself, although I enjoyed following your videos on maintenance and doing my own. I'm comfortable steaming my own milk with a simple frother, so probably don't need the Prestige model, but we do make a combination of espresso and "regular" coffees daily. I'm watching so many of your reviews & jumping from one machine to another Help me decide what machine to get of these 3 1. Gaggia Cadorna Prestige 2. Gaggia Accademia 3. Gaggia Babila I like to get a good & hot good Americano for the morning, a great shot of espresso for brunch time & amazing & hot cappuccino for mid day What is important for me is ease of use, easy water filling & controlling the coffee strength for 3 different family members

Hi J, Thanks for the question. Sounds like the Cadorna Prestige is best fit. For ease of water filling I like the slide out front drawer of the Cadorna. Other models fill from top. Their reservoirs are removable but lifting out can be a problem if you have overhanging cabinets. Cadorna is the only machine of the 3 which can save customized versions of drinks for multiple (4) users + the factory defaults. I've used all 3 machines for extended periods. Cadorna in my experinces has slightly hotter coffee output than the others. Auto frothed milk is similar on all machines. The Babila and Accademia have the manual wand. That's useful if you want unusually hot milk drinks or want to give latte art a go. Just about every machine with auto frothing will output milk at 125-145F depending on your variables like ambient and starting milk temps. Manufacturers make it that way for best milk flavor. Go hotter and apparent sweetness from heating quickly fades. Cadorna also does the one touch Americano - I drink a couple of those every morning made on the Cadorna P. Hope that helps! ps. If you like a rocking hot cappa give the true double shot flat white on the Cadorna a go - more mixed than a cappuccino but it's hotter and has a silky mouthfeel in a coffee forward beverage. Marc

@@Wholelattelovepage Hi Marc, thanks for your quick h detailed answer, really appreciated. My first choice was Beeville Barista Touch since it gives me a real control over my espresso that I like... But semi automatic machines need more work. And this us the point I got to your channel & hocked up with the best reviews. If we don't take the money in consideration, what would you choose Barista Touch or Gaggia Academia (both dual boiler) Then if we compare the Cadorma to Academia, it's a single boiler, wouldn't be a bit slower? From the video the milk holder in the Academia looks more sturdy & well built, much more than the Cardona, is it wrong impression & the Cardona milk system is well built? Thanks in advance.

Hello Marc - Enjoying my Gaggia Cordona Prestige. Noticed that the drip tray was full. I ALWAYS use a container to flush out the water when it starts and when shutting down. Today, I emptied the drip try. Washed and dried. Made coffe, placed a glass container to flush the remaining water while shuttting down the machine. By the way I do the same thing with the cup! Call me lazy, but I don't like emptying drip trays more often than needed. I've been using the Cadorna in the studio for 2-4 drinks a day for months. I have a Gagia Cadorna Prestige Auto and we love it. However, here in Australia we don't like so much milk froth. Currently, the froth is so frothy it looks more like dishwashing liquid and a dense foamy milk. Is anyone able to advise it it's possible to reduce the level of froth and if so, how? We've tried pretty much all of the preset coffee's and they all froth way too much, which is strange as we've travelled extensively in Italy and Italians also do not like froth, they prefer either straight espresso or in the morning, a cappuccino with a dense / foamy / creamy milk. Is anyone able to offer any suggestions please?

Hi DB, It has latte macchiato on the menu. You can configure it to make an espresso macchiato as well using the Cortado (or any other drink which does espresso first) by programming a small amount of milk froth over your desired amount of espresso. If you like a strong espresso macchiato start with the flat white which makes esprsso using 2 grind cycles. Hope that helps! Marc

Hello, can I make a latte with this machine? Does it do hot milk and froth milk? Also how is the taste of the espresso in comparison to let's say the Jura espresso?
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage Жыл бұрын
Hi Ashley, Thanks for the question. Yes, you can make a latte on the Cadorna Prestige using the Latte Macchiato. That makes a layered drink with hot milk on the bottom, espresso in the middle and airier frothed milk on top. Just stir that and you'll have a Latte. As Gaggia machines are made in Italy you will not find "Latte" on the menu as that translates to "milk" in Italian. The machine does not do hot milk and milk froth separately but relies on gravity and a little time for the milk to separate into steamed milk and milk froth before espresso is brewed. For some of the other milk drinks like the flat white espresso is brewed first then frothed milk. Many prefer the creamier mouthfeel of milk drinks like the flat white or cafe au lait which makes espresso first - it's similar to a latte made by a good barista at a specialty cafe. Taste of espresso is similar between Gaggia and Jura machines. I have a Jura at home and use a Gaggia everyday in the office. Using same beans, flavor is similar and I have no preference for one over the other. If you want more control of espresso flavor you might have a look at the updated Gaggia Accademia: www.wholelattelove.com/products/gaggia-accademia-espresso-machine It has 3 levels of pre-infusion, and flow control on the dispensing spouts. Those give you tools to fine tune espresso flavor. Also has 4 levels of milk froth. It's more expensive than the Cadorna but has more to offer feature wise than Jura machines at similar price. You can see the new Accademia in this video of our 5 favorite automatics of 2022 just released today. Video includes the Magenta, Cadorna and 2 Jura machines as well: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nb2CatCWl5OVh30.html Hope that helps! Marc

Hi ally, Thanks for the comment and question. The Cadorna is a newer machine with a much nicer UI and more drinks than the Accademia like the one-touch Americano. If you don't care about the manual steam wand then I'd go with the Cadorna Prestige. A couple of features I do like on the Accademia are the flow control dial on the coffee spouts and the milk carafe which does the steam cleaning through the handle. With the flow control dial one can adjust the brew rate of the coffee and use a lower flow rate for espresso and higher flow rate for larger cups of coffee. With that you can get deep espresso extractions and gentler extraction of grinds for larger coffees to avoid bitterness. The the Accademia steam cleaning leaves the carafe ready to go back in fridge. The Cadorna does have carafe cleaning - both quick and deeper cycles but it's a bit messier and not quite as thorough as it uses just hot water and no steam. Hope that helps! Marc

Which grind setting is best? Have tried several brands of coffee in my Cadorna Prestige and outside of Lavazza super crema, most taste bitter and sour like I cannot get the grind setting correct with the extraction time. Each have been very sharp up front and the bitterness carries. It seems like the machine should have a longer slower extraction process. Any recommendations?
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Kevin, Thanks for the question. Happy to hear you are getting good results with the Super Crema. I should mention that timing does not apply for super-auto machines as it does for semi-auto machines. You did not mention what other bean types you were using. But based on your description of sharp up front, sour and bitter I'll take a guess they are relatively fresh from roast and potentially a lighter roast than the super crema. The sharp up front sounds like brightness/acidity common in fresh from roast coffee and may be the sour. Bitterness is a general symptom of over-extraction but could also be coming from the roast if dark. Recommendations: It's hard to be definitive as I do not know what types of beans you are using but here's some general advice: If coffee is less than 3 weeks from roast let it rest until 3 weeks. Beans under 3 weeks almost always present with sharp/bright/acidic flavors. These can be toned down with high-end commercial machines/techniques but can't correct for that in an automatic machine. Start with the finest grind setting, maximum bean strength and high temperature. Make a shot that's ~1.5 oz in volume. If coffee is making little crema keep the shot shorter about 1oz. If making a lot of crema let it go close to 2oz. Taste. If bitter increase grind size 2 notches. Brew a couple shots and taste the second one. Hopefully the grind adjustment helps reduce bitterness if present. Hope that helps! Marc

Hi Marc - Thanks for the review video. All of yours are very informative and helpful. I’m in decision-making (and $avings) mode to make the best long term investment in an excellent superautomatic. I’ve watched your Jura videos and was pretty much settled on the newer E8 model. Then there is the Miele 6360 in the same price point. And now, the Gaggia cadorna Prestige. Is the Prestige in the same arena as the other two machines for a much lower price point? Quality of drink? Temperature of beverage (I prefer hotter)? Longevity of machine and customer support? What about cleaning of machine and descaling? Thanks in advance for taking the time to to respond!
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 2 жыл бұрын
Hi BB, You are welcome for the the video and thank you for your comment and questions. Jura machines tend to run more $$ for similar capabilities when compared to Gaggia machines. I can't speak to the Miele as I have no experience with it. I have an older Jura ENA Micro 90 at home and a Cadorna Prestige in the office. Both get daily use. The Cadorna does give you the same features at a lower price point. Plus some extras like the ability to save 4 extra versions of each drink in the favorites menu. I personally prefer the carafe system of the Gaggia for milk drinks. Attach the carafe, make your drink, run very quick rinse and put the carafe back in the fridge ready to go for next time. You will want to run a deeper clean 1x week or depending on usage and take apart the carafe's frothing components as needed for deeper cleaning. Jura uses a pickup tube for milk. For cleaning you use the 2 section container. One section holds the cleaning solution and the other catches the rinse. Just a little more involved to use that system. The Gaggia makes slightly hotter drinks in my experience. But, if you're the type who wants it super hot no machine of this type will satisfy. They all brew internally at about 200F. By the time coffee makes it out of the spouts it's in the 180s and then cools even more as it drops to the cup and gives up more heat to the cup. Drink quality is very similar. I drink a lot of Americanos from the Cadorna and long coffees from the Jura at home using the same beans. My Micro 90 does not have Americanos but the long coffee is similar in taste to the Americanos. The E8 and my Micro 90 both use a deeper pulse extraction process (PEP) for espresso but turn that off for long coffees to avoid over-extraction. From the beans I use I get a more intense chocolate note after the coffee cools from the Cadorna's Americanos than what I get from long coffees from the Jura. We regularly get customer reports of >12,000 brew cycles with nothing more than routing maintenance on Gaggia machines. My Jura at home is closing in 7,000 brew cycles after 3 years of use with nothing other than routine maint. Customer support for both Gaggia and Jura are excellent. We handle Gaggia support and service in the US with actual experts you can call and talk to. Jura has the same in the US. The brew units in Gaggia are removable those in Jura are not. Coffee maintenance consists of removing the brew unit in the Gaggia about 1x week and rinsing under tap water. Once a month or so run a cleaning tablet through the coffee bypass doser to get rid of accumulated coffee oils. For the Jura it's the cleaning tablets about once a month depending on level of use. The machine tells you when but it's in the neighborhood of every 200 brew cycles. Cadorna let's you know when it's time to descale. Frequency depends on your source water hardness and if you use the in-reservoir filter. Here in the office I've descaled the Cadorna 1x in a year of use averaging 2 drinks a day. For Jura, if you use their in reservoir filter you will never hve to descale the machine. If you do not use a filter it depends on source water hardness but for average soft water it's about every 200 brew cycles. I hope that helps! Marc

The flat white and Americano shown in the video are time lapsed so not made as fast as seen in video. There is a wait of 20 or so seconds for milk froth as the machine heats to steaming temperature. Hi Murray, Thank you for the kind comments on my videos - it's appreciated. Congrats on moving away from Nespresso. Guessing you know I'm not a fan of pre-ground coffee in capsules. Long term you will be saving money and drink much better coffee and milk based espresso beverages using a super-automatic bean to cup machine. Nespresso cost per gram of coffee is over 10 cents! A quality whole bean coffee runs about 2 cents a gram. The Anima Prestige is a great value in one-touch automatic machines. No other machines compare at that price. If you want to expand the quality and selection of milk drinks I'd take a hard look at the Cadorna Prestige. Hi Pati, I'll do my best to help. At some point it comes down to what's important to you. I've used both machines extensively - Babila was my daily driver in the studio for more than a year. What I like about the Babila: Flow control dial on spouts for easy control of extraction rate. Let it flow fast for long coffee and restrict the flow for espresso and milk based beverages. Milk carafe. I prefer carafe over Jura's pick up tube for milk beverages and the milk carafe does a quick clean with steam so it's ready to go back in fridge for next time. Cleaning Jura milk system is more involved. Babila has a very solid build and removable brew group. Jura is all plastic exterior and brew group is not removable. What I like about the E8: More contemporary design aesthetic. Prettier user interface. Does steamed and frothed milk - Babila only does frothed. No descaling required if you use in-reservoir filter as directed. Hi JZ, A few tips... Since I do not know if you are making espresso or longer coffees know that in general you want a finer grind setting if doing mostly espresso and coarser if making longer coffees. Use the strength setting to increase flavor intensity. Both machines use a similar process for extracting the coffee so results should be about the same if using the same beans. Marc

Any tips on on how to fix weak brews? I'm finding my new machine is producing weak coffee, despite having the grinder set on the finest level, medium roast beans, and strength setting to max. Is this simply a function of the beans I've chosen? The color of the coffee is like a medium brown (golden color) - I can't seem to produce a dark coffee like I'd expect from my drip maker. Any suggestions?
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 2 жыл бұрын
Hi v, Thanks for the question. The first 10 or so brews from your machine will be weaker as the Gaggia Adapting System adjusts to the coffee beans you are using. If you are past that point and simply want a stronger cup one way to get there is select "2 cups" and make them using lower brew water volume. 2 Cups is available on any coffee beverage using the upper right button after selecting the beverage. So rather than making a single 6oz coffee. Make 2 x 3oz. coffees. When you select the "2 Cup" function the machine will run 2 grind cycles automatically. Single grind cycles use up to 11.5g at max strength setting. Go 2 cups and you'll get up to 23g of coffee ground and a much stronger cup. Marc

Hi Vivek, Thanks for the request. Will see if I can work a comparison video into the schedule. I do have a number of videos on the ENA 8. Just go to the video tab at this link to watch those: www.wholelattelove.com/products/jura-ena-8-espresso-machine-in-black#product-videos Which would I choose? Well, I've been using the Cadorna Prestige as the daily driver in the studio for about 6 months now and I'm loving it. IMO the ENA 8 is best for lower volume use. I like the trim and modern look of the ENA 8. But, I love the true Americanos from the Cadorna and the ability to easily modify a drink before making and save multiple versions. Marc

Hi Mark, I recently started looking into Gaggia Babila or Cadorna Prestige. We first looked into a Sage Oracle Touch but find that machine quite expensive for home use, although I am a coffee snob hihi. My husband drinks normal coffee and I drink Cortado or Flat White. Do you have to change grind size with every coffee on the those machines or is that also a something you can save as a preference? What would be significant advantages of a Dual boiler? Does the integrated milk carafe offer the same quality of frothing and consistency on both machines? Thank you so much!!
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Kitty, Thanks for the questions. The Oracle touch is some $$ and a much more manual experience than the super-auto bean to cup machines. I use the Cadorna Prestige daily for normal coffee. It does very good job at that - and I'm a bit of a snob myself! Recently I most often use the Cadorna for Americanos which it makes properly and IMO are a better version of regular drip style coffee. Doing the Americanos takes away any need to change grind size as one would use the same grind for those and the espresso for a flat white. If you do a standard coffee on the Cadorna with all water going through the grind you'd want to use a coarser grind than for the espresso. But, it is possible to split the difference in grind and get both a good espresso and a good long coffee. You really do not want to hassle with changing the grind size all the time. And, that's why going Americano is perfect for your situation. Grind size settings cannot be saved as a preference. It's a manual control in the bean hopper. Flat whites on the Cadorna Prestige are excellent. It makes them right with espresso first and true double shot with individual grind cycles resulting in max dose of 23g per drink. Advantage of a dual boiler is simultaneous espresso extraction and milk frothing - so quicker drinks. Also more consistent brew temps as a dedicated boiler provides the water for espresso. The integrated milk carafe of the Cadorna Prestige provides a single type of fine milk froth. It's not adjustable. Manual steaming allows one to due the milk however they like and to whatever temperature they like. The Cadorna Barista Plus is very similar to the Cadorna Prestige except it has a commercial style manual wand. You can go to latte art quality froth using that but it does require some skill. Hope that helps! Marc

Favorite feature was the flow control on the spouts as I regularly switched between long coffee and espresso. Also liked the automatic steam cleaning of the carafe when you push the spout over. The Cadorna does not have the flow control. What it does have is a much nicer UI! So nice to know all drink parameters and have the ability to make a one time change or make a change and save it to one of 4 user profiles. Also does flipping of the milk/espresso prep order based on drink type and has additional drinks like proper Americano and true double shot flat white. Marc

@Wholelattelovepage

Hi A, Thanks for the question. The "coffee" option is for longer (larger cups of) coffee. It uses the same brewing process as espresso so the full volume of water goes through the ground coffee. If doing a lot of those one would typically back off to a coarser grind size. The Americano brews a regular espresso then adds hot water that does not run through the grind. Marc

@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 3 жыл бұрын
Hey W Man, Thanks for the question. You most definitely can grind both Robusta and Arabica beans in the Cadorna. In fact many of the classic Italian style bean blends commonly used for espresso contain a mix of Arabic and Robusta beans. Beans which are shiny with excessive surface oils (typically dark roasted) should be avoided. They will not damage the grinder but may cause clogs. I've used Maromas Orphea a blend which contains both bean types extensively in the Cadorna with no issues: www.wholelattelove.com/products/maromas-orphea-whole-bean-espresso Hope that helps! Marc

Hi Pauline, Sorry for the delayed response. I usually respond to comments with 1 business day and somehow missed yours. I love the Cadorna Prestige. Much nicer interface, more drink options and front slide out for water. The Accademia and Babila have top access to water reservoir so difficult if you have overhanging cabinets. The Caorna does do a relatively hot milk compared to other machines. I'm using the Cadorna Prestige as our daily driver in the studio. It replaced a Babila a few months ago and prior to the Babila I used an Accademia. I did like both those machines. Especially the flow control on the spouts which makes it very easy to fine tune an extraction. Having used them all my preference is for the Cadorna. Love being able to save personalized version of the drinks under different users as there's 3 of us using the machine daily. I'd read the owner reviews of the Cadorna to get some real world use info. Go here and scroll down for those: www.wholelattelove.com/products/gaggia-cadorna-prestige One thing the Cadorna does not have that the others do is a manual steaming wand. With that you can create latte art quality frothed milk. And, if you like milk extraordinarily hot a manual wand is the only way to get that. Hope that helps! Marc

Hello Marc @wholelattelove, It says that it can last a long time with the regular schedule maintenance. I live in an area that doesn't have a repair shop for coffee makers. What kind of maintenance do you need to do on this type of machine? I really am interested but I can't take it anywhere to service it. Can I do the maintenance myself?
@Wholelattelovepage
@Wholelattelovepage 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Matt, Thanks for the question. This type of machine can do >15,000 brew cycles with regular maintenance. You can do the maintenance yourself. Most important item is using good water. Number one cause of machine issues is scale deposits from hard water (high mineral level). You want some minerals in water for flavor but not too much. When you get your machine use the included water hardness test strip and enter the hardness reading into the machine. With that info the machine will alert you when it's time to descale. Using an in reservoir water filter is not required but doing so will extended the periods between descaling. Also do not use coffee beans with an oily surface sheen in any super-automatic machine. They can cause grinder clogs. Beyond that, the brew unit removes from the machine and should be rinsed with room temp tap water (no soap or scrubbing) weekly. The brew unit can be deep cleaned and not a bad idea to do that annually depending on use level. Here's a video showing how to do that: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fq2dmdF4s8WugXU.html Hope that helps! Marc

Hi 4, Thanks for the question and no need to ask privately! When I say in the video the Cadorna has features of more expensive machines I'm referring to Jura's with similar color choose by drink picture displays. I like The ENA 8 as well. Been using it in the studio for a number of months now as our daily driver. If you like milk based drinks the Cadorna is easier to use and has more variety. It's out of the box ready with the carafe. Jura ENA 8 uses a pickup tube for milk and doesn't come with a container for milk. Cleaning after a milk drink is more involved with the ENA 8. With the Cadorna just do the quick rinse and the carafe is ready to go back in the fridge for next time. As to coffee quality... Results are similar for both. I did not cover in video but the Cadorna has slightly more control of grind size with 10 grind settings vs 7 on the ENA 8. I do like the Americanos on the Cadorna. They have a whole different flavor profile than drip or long coffees made from same beans. No Americano on the ENA 8. Cadorna can make 2 coffee beverages at same time and keeps them full strength by running 2 grind cycles automatically. It's one at time on the ENA 8. Jura uses the smart filters so and if you use them you will never need to descale the Jura. Also senses filter replacement so no diving into menus for that. Brew unit is removable in the Cadorna, not removable in the ENA 8. Hope that helps! Marc

Hi Mark, how's does the machine dial in a espresso to taste and how different is the quality from a professional vs the home machine? Looking forward

Hi Michael, Thanks for the question. The basic controls for dialing in on a super-automatic are grind size, coffee dose (strength) and temperature. The Cadorna has 10 grind settings, 5 strength levels and 3 temperature settings. For espresso on super auto machines I suggest starting at the finest grind setting, highest coffee dose and temperature settings. If you think it's over extracting first back off the grind setting a couple of clicks to coarser. Comparing quality to professional... Prosumer level semi-auto machines have the potential to produce a higher-end espresso. But they take knowledge, skill and effort to produce superior results. IMO automatic machines produce a better espresso than the majority of chain cafes. Get a good barista at a specialty cafe and you'll get better espresso. Automatic machines produce consistent results that are convenient. Marc

I have one fundamental question about how these machines make “coffee” (as opposed to Americano. My wife is concerned about losing her drip coffee for background. How do they justify calling it “coffee” and how is it different from an Americano? Thanks so much for the advice - hope to be buying something from you folks in the next couple of weeks!

Good day Marc :D. I always wondering how these super automatic coffee machines( i don't know if you call it appliance or machine) compare to non automatic machines like barista should dial in the coffee to get best out of beans just how the taste will compare with same coffee just curious. Also this machine looks cheap and what about $$$$$ super automatic machines how they do.? Can they be real "AI" barista in future?

Hi rayan, You must be watching my prosumer level espresso vids if you're on the appliance v. machine! The price on the Cadorna is low compared to other manufacturer machines with similar features. To get features like milk prep order switching, true Americano and flat white is about 2x the price for a Jura machine. No doubt that semi-auto machines used by barista or high-end home hobbyists have the potential to produce a better espresso. But that requires a higher level of skill, knowledge and effort. What these automatic machines do is offer consistent quality that's convenient. IMO results from these machines beat what you'll get from most large chain shops. Marc
