The problem you had with the corner of the display can be easily solved by turning on the "Underscan" option in your monitor settings (Input tab), however you will loose a few pixel at the corners.

I've had it for a few days and I love it for photo editing, gaming, and movie watching. I would recommend sitting at least 3.5ft from it, and possibly still getting a 2nd monitor for multitasking purposes. Multitaking on this monitor alone is not as comfortable as it was on my 5k imac using Photoshop full screen with a 2nd monitor for multiple secondary apps like ical, youtube, and email. If you try to fit all that onto one screen, you're gonna have to make compromises. I will say that you can get 4 browser windows open on this at the same time quite comfortably other than having to turn your neck.

FWIW, there has been a firmware update that fixes the PWM issues: it raises the PWM frequency from ~120Hz (noticeable for some) to 480Hz (not noticeable). 👍

Good review man, do you definitely recommend 43" over 40"? Trying to decide. I'm coming from 27" 1440p but have to do 125% scaling. So I'm guessing 40" at 125% would be very close to what I have now and a 43" at 125% might not look good or does it? A 43" at 100% would be great getting full resolution, just worried things might be too small.
@WSGF6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words. The 43" panels were the only ones I found that had the excellent "multi-client" or PBP support. There was one or two 40" panels out there, but they were geared more for single inputs, IIRC. There was a 40" curved Philips, but I read some bad things about it, so I never looked into it.

Pinned post for additional notes and Q/A: - I purchased this unit with my own money. It was not provided for review. - My initial comments about the 34" ultrawide and PBP were in reference to previous setups, and my evolution of moving to a 43" 4k UHD panel - not a reference to the Dell 43" that I previously reviewed. - I didn't have any issues with burn-in, which is a concern with this panel type - The audio out is designed for headphones, and will overdrive an audio/line input on a speaker set.

Hey @WSGF Isn't this much worse in terms of color vibrancy and brightness when compared to the Dell alternative that is rated at 43" ? I just returned the Phillips BDM4350 something something display becuase it had horribly low luminosity, really poor color contrast and color vibrancy, and it looked dull and lifeless. Nice review. I have been using a Philips BDM4065UCM 40" 4K for a good three years now and really enjoying it, but sadly it doesn't have HDMI 2.0. Wanting to add a PS4 pro to the toys under my desk I am thinking about replacing the Philips with a new 40-43" 4K monitor that has HDMI 2.0. Have you by any chance seen the Philips and can maybe say something on how the LG feels in comparison? The Philips has amazing contrast which I suspect is something I might miss. Also how about the anti-reflex coating on the LG. Good/Bad? Is there an issue with bright lights or even a window causing glare issues with the LG, because that is somewhat of an issue with the Philips and I would like to avoid that.
@WSGF6 жыл бұрын
I've not tried the Philips. I avoided it due to the glare I read about. The LG has an anti-reflective coating. I'd say it's average or a little above. It's not perfect (though I do sit 90 degrees from very bring windows). It works well enough. The reflections are like a dull shine, when present.
@bzdtemp6 жыл бұрын
That is good info. Thank you. I gotta say my Philips is the best ever enjoyment per $ monitor buy I have made (even beating the Sony GDM-F520 which was amazing in the CRT era). If the LG can match that I shall be a happy camper. I however do struggle with taking the plunge. Traditionally when getting a new monitor my previous primary one has always been made the secondary, so for example my current setup is the 40" Phillips and a 27" Dell. However while I love desktop real estate I do envision having a 43" and a 40" next to each other on the same desk will be over the top:-) Decisions, decisions... if only there were big 5K monitors available the decision would be easy.
@WSGF6 жыл бұрын
These decisions are hard. I actually decided to look up 5k displays this past week - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5K_resolution There are two on the horizon that look promising. First is an LG 34" 5k ultrawide. It's only 34", but it 's 5120x2160, which means 4k vert with ultrawide horizontal. The other is a Philips 49" double-wide. It's basically an upgrade to the existing 2x 1080p 49" with 2x 1440p res. It would be hella expense, but I could go for 2x either of those panels... Until now the 5k panels have only been 27". Maybe this will be a turning point for large format 5k resolution.

@WSGF6 жыл бұрын

I purchased this monitor about a month ago and at first, I hated it. The lag was terrible, screen tear was horrendous. I contacted LG (since my new PC does not have a DVD drive and the monitor came with a disc) They directed me to the download for the monitor and upon install, I updated the bios. WHAM! Fixed it all. I LOVE this monitor! It is amazing. Here is what I still have questions on: What is the best connection to use for gaming? HDMI 30p 60p or the Display Port? (im running AMD with a Radeon RX580 8GB) Also I watched a review of a Dell monitor where the resolution was set as custom to mimic ultrawide. Is there an app for that? How do I set that? Lastly, anyone find a suitable arm to hold this beast to a desk?

DisplayPort is the best connection for PC gaming. The AMD Radeon drivers have a custom resolution feature. No special app needed. Just create the res. I have a link to an arm in the video description. It allows for both wall mounting and desk mounting. Works like a champ.

Hi, during your video you talked about gaming in a 21:9 ratio but you never go into detail about that, same for the Dell 43" review. How do you do that? does the monitor support 21:9 resolutions or do you set up custom ones via the driver? Also with the screen split SW, is it possible to do a 1 over 3 solution, like in the upper two 3rds have a 21:9 game window in 3840x1600 and in the lower 3rd three seperate windows roughly 1250x560 aligned next to each other? And lastly, how are the reaction times? noticed any ghosting in fast games or scrolling. Don't need any hard numbers here, a subjective assessment would suffice . Thanks for the great review, other than the questions I ask here very infomative, as it should be. Also thanks for WSGF, helped me a lot over the years, especially when 21:9 came around. Regards Um
@WSGF4 жыл бұрын
You have to set a custom resolution in your driver. So far a 21:9 that would fill the whole screen, you'd set like 3840x1645 for pixel perfect, or set to 3440x1440 for a slightly stretched image. If you wanted to do it on one of the halves, you'd need to turn on the PBP and then set the custom eres to 2560x1080. You can only do the half split, but you can do a custom res in that half. No 3x splits. It's about as good as any IPS monitor. I don't play a lot of fast reaction, twitch or shooter games, so I can't say for that. And i don't play anything competitively. For the RPGs that I mostly play, it was great.

@WSGF6 жыл бұрын
I think that a 40" with higher ppi would be a bit better. At the time of this video, there weren't any 40" 4k with the multi-client options. I think a curved 40" 4k with the multi-client options would be ideal. G-Sync and a higher refresh would be great too.
@cshaun76 жыл бұрын
Not sure on curved. Makes sense, but could be anoying for graphic work. Currently have 30" 2560 with 2x 20 inch in portrait on the sides. Gsync, hi refresh, HDR, wide colour gamut etc all nice to haves. Happy to pay extra, just waiting for someone to make it. Might be a while before video cards can properly drive it, but that's fine. Would be my ultimate setup and I'd be happy to sell some organs to get it.
@WSGF6 жыл бұрын
I do get that curved is a preference thing. I'm not worried about HDR for a bit - given the lack of support in Windows and games. Though, I'd probably rather have it for future proofing, than not.
@cshaun76 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's mostly just future proofing. A good monitor can last a long time. About 10 years I've had mine we'll worth the $2000 price tag. It's tricky cause I do web development / programming, graphic design, photography and gaming. Basically I want a display that does everything and currently there's already tradeoffs.

@skerry2006aj6 жыл бұрын
I really care about them brightness, but you measured different brightness between the two. Dell has better brightness in this situation? I'm using a Dell U2515H which is at least 380 - 420 nits, and the Dell seems to get closer. I understrand they are the same Panel, but I'd expect different firmwares to enable different brightness settings. What's your take on this?> Which is brighter? Are they as bright as a 25" Dell U2515H? Or as a Xiaomi Mi Max 2 smartphone? I just send back a Phillips BDM4350 43" Display because it was soooo bad in both color reproduction and brightness. It was so dim that it made no sense in a normal room, even in complete darkness. Also, I probably need more color space coverage. Do you happen to know another 30"+ display that might be very bright and virbant / colorful?
@WSGF6 жыл бұрын
Gheorghe Dobrescu If it shows two different values in the videos, then the Spyder measured two different values. I don’t have the results in front of me at the moment. I can’t bear to run the 43” at any past 2/3 or 3/4 brightness. I keep my home office dark and 43” of max brightness in blinding. 43” is a LARGE surface to have very bright. But if you’re in a bright room, or value brightness for some other reason, then that should weigh into your decisions. The lack of HDMI 2.0 on the Dell was a major negative for me. I still don’t understand why they did that. The PWM usage for brightness on the LG may be an issue for you. Dell only uses that below 70%.
@z00h6 жыл бұрын
Gheorghe - it's important to note that the 43inch Dell that he keeps banging on about here is a 34inch model not the 43 inch 16:9 4k Dell P4317Q. I'd go for Dell if this is the one you were thinking about.

@WSGF6 жыл бұрын
In comparing my PC and Mac - using the PBP feature, I find the font equally script when comparing between Chrome. On the PC, I set up with True Type Fonts. On the Mac, I turned on LCD Font Smoothing. There is a concern about font sharpness in general, as this panel uses BGR, instead of RBG, sub-pixel layout. I don't have a comparable RGB LCD panel to compare to at the moment. I'd say either: 1) The issue isn't that bad, 2) The adjustment I outlined above mitigate the issue, or 3) I've just gotten used to it. Or some combination of the above. Note - Text (anything really) on an Apple Retina Macbook (Pro) or iMac will look *MUCH* sharper, and the change takes some time to get used to.
