Ventum’s new GS1 gravel race bike is a little longer than its predecessor, and with more tire clearance and an improved seatpost clamp. What remains are the same general frame shape, and the flip chip at the fork that allows you to change the trail and the bike’s handling. I’ve been testing this for a few weeks and in this video review I share my thoughts on this new bike and how it compares to other options out there.

Good review - good reference points on geometry /trail angle - always something to keep in mind in the quest of most appropriate bike for the job - you may forget to mention the Obed bikes in the list of bike options in direct to consumer business model

Thanks for the frame geometry lesson! Glad Ventum remained "conventional" in Gravel and didn't go down the Tri (down-tube-free) road :D PS. Congrats on the new sponsor; ex-Stages brand ambassador here :)

Cheers, Abdoullah. I definitely still think of Ventum as a tri brand, but that's changing.

@@TheRidewithBenDelaney same here, I saw Ventum in the feed and was like "Wait! It's got a downtube!" :D Their product diversification couldn't be better timed, as road/gravel spiked while Tri racing slid during the pandemic.

As you brought up, interesting that different manufacturers approach the flip chip different ways. Fork mounted or read mounted...or both. All that said, I also prefer a more road bike type gravel bike. I chalk that up to being an old roadie though more than anything. Good luck at Old Man Winter!

front seems easier to adjust. rear you need to consider chain length which is a non issue on the front.

Thanks, Ben, and especially for the calm explanation of the frame geometry with the flip chip and what not. And O by the way, 2x, O yes, 2x, a roadie can make music on gravel with that. It ain't a bike ride without a big ring for me to recall my glory days, if only on a straight, subtle descent. 😀

having options is a good thing. I took my Orbea Orca OMX 2021 on gravel in the gunks. It handled gravel fine, even though I was kinda thinking "I must be stupid and crazy for going gravel in the Shawangunks mountains" but it was totally fine.

Like your comments about the seat post clamping because you and I have both lost the block and shim down the seat tube on the Revolt (several times in my case). Looking forward to the ride review. My Sidi's are biting the dust after almost 15 years. Checked your videos but didn't see anything on shoes, what do you like for gravel. I'm more at the race end of the gravel spectrum, so clipped in performance is more important than a shoe that excels at walking.

Great video! Bike is awesome but I wonder if value for money is comparable to brands like Canyon or even Cannondale...I might be a bit biased, as Canyon enthusiast, but I just don't see how the price difference can be so high. Looking fwd for your race review, good luck!!

Taking notes ... very good notes... nice explanation... 5:53 by the way. great video as usually. this is why I jump from previous bike to a cusmot build bike for me... not just the fabrication predetermined bike angles... I need a multipurpose chameleon bike ... my local hand made steel frame bike make me a new bike that also can have the flip to jump from 700 to 650 and also can go from 33 mm all road to 50 + chunky ... having the amount of trail feel I 'need' and make me comfortable and fast. from gravel to endurance and even ultraendurance... what I am struggling is what type of clip on TT bars ... do you have any saying on clip on TT bars... PRO launch ones... am looking for light comfortable affordable ... saludos Ben. my transcordilleres is around the corner are you keeping an eye on the event?

Off topic but it sucks being above average in height especially with gravel bikes... cant help but notice the saddle to bar drop on this race bike (and others) looks really similar to my do everything (overnight camping, touring, day rides) gravel gravel bike even though I have 40mm of spacers under the stem. Really like the flip chip making its way to gravel bikes hopefully more will add it and not just race bikes... would be great when loaded the forks with weight/water/drybags a perfectly slack rake/trail bike gets really floppy when loaded.

how do you think this bike would do as a CX build? with gravel during the CX off-season
@TheRidewithBenDelaney

I think it would do just fine. It doesn't have the crazy-low BB that some gravel bikes do (Revolt, Kaius, Diverge, etc), which can be a negative for racing ’cross.

These guys were having a problem delivering bikes to buyers a while back. A friend over in Logan eventually accepted something other than what he initially ordered. Hopefully that is in the past. now lets talk price. Canyon spends a ton on pro racing and sponsorships, shouldn’t Ventum be much less expensive for the same thing? Or is the big difference the quantity pricing that a boutique brand just can’t get?
