Great video have this nest myself and it’s great I’d suggest adding some clay substrate and maybe some sand the larvae will use it to spin their cocoons. As for the size it’s more of a foundation nest and outworld and ants prefer small spaces so you wouldn’t want it much bigger, but you have ports to expand it when the time comes. 🐜❤️😃🐜🇬🇧

@@ScottsInverts no Ryan had his in soil and they didn’t do too well they naturally nest in clay so try get some clay substrate if you can

Amazing species! Definitely second happy get some substrate in the chambers so the larvae can use to weave a cocoon, and make sure you keep it hydrated. Try if you can to use size 2/3 crickets or baby soft dub roaches every day or 2 as the large ones will hurt/possible kill the attackers. I personally from experience don't think this nest is suitable for this sp as i don't think it's humid enough for them, mine did really well layed loads of eggs, then to larvae then just couldn't cocoon.

Sadie is lovely ill drop her a pm, where u add the water with syringe it makes a water sauce inside about half inch across puddle , the humidity should be ok as long as I keep it topped up, really appreciate your advice and support like I say in really new to this

Heyy! harps are awesome! I keep these, couple things I've noticed, Is they don't drink too well from them liquid feeders. I've got a couple little bowls in mine, think I actually got them from an invert show from a spider stall. But you could use a shallow bottle top as a bowl. Also with this species they will need some clay and sandy gravel substrate to spin the larvae into cocoons. I've been feeding mine the smallest crickets I can get. I'm doing 5/6 every other day (I've got about 25 workers). Looking forward to seeing how you get on with these and seeing what works for you. ❤️🐜🐜🐜🐜

This arena is good now because there are few ants in the colony but later it will be a problem to feed and clean the arena with a bigger colony because there will be more of them in the arena and they will attack or run away when you try to feed or clean.

I also have a young Harps colony in this formicarium! I also second HappyAnt UK and recomend adding a little bit of substrate to the outworld so that the ants can bring some down into the nest. And like Baker says smaller crickets every other day or so. These ants refuse to drink suger water and get all there sugars and nutiants from the 'blood' of the feeder insects. Their venom paralizes the feeder insect but doesnt kill them, so they build up a sort of 'living larder' to feed from as needed. (sorry for any spelling issues.)

That is a great looking nest! Unfortunately I'm American so the shipping cost would be nearly equal to the purchase cost of the nest.

@@ScottsInverts possibly. Was chatting with @happyantuk all the way to Taunton and back about them. Possibly a easy non hibernation to maybe start with.

With such a small colony, never give live prey because it can damage the eggs or pupae. I'm not sure about the nest , but from my own experience I know that the less stuff a nests has, the better it is. The best are nests or arenas that are connected separately, not as a set here.

@@ScottsInverts With ants, it works a little differently. Always try to buy nests or arenas separately with exits to second arenas or nests, because as your colony grows, you can always connect a second nest or arena

Nice video mate what a beautiful species! i duno if its true but i have heard that harps struggle to drink from normal liquid feeders due to their mandibles but there is special ones out there for species like them, like i say i may be wrong i dont own this species but something iv heard.

Unfortunately all the habbitats iv ordered from Ants HQ have allowed the ants to escape. The staff are super friendly but the products they supply are just not up to standard which is a shame as I really wanted to support them. I have 3 habbitats from them and all have issues with gaps in the acrylic

H.venator don't grow to large colony so could stay there for a long time

Can i ask precisely what "technology" AntsHQ has put into this nest..? They're literally buying these from AliExpress, laser etching their logo into two panels and charging an extra £30+ for doing so.
