Review of Crosswinds Campground on Jordan Lake, Raleigh, NC. Open all year, not cheap, but not bad

We were invited to Thanksgiving dinner by my niece. But we didn't really want to stay there with the dog (Hers, not Mine). So we checked around and found an all year state park campground with electricity and water. But we had a slightly frustrating Thanksgiving, and probably drank a little too much. SO forgive the grumpy nature of this video.

We have camped at Crosswinds several times with only one bad trip. We reserved a site and when we got to the site a camper was in it from the day before and no one was at the camper. They were in the site on our time slot. We waited a couple of hours back out at the entry gate till the park rangers put us in another site. in another loop. The people returned much later and they wanted to stay another night, not concerned about anyone else. Enjoyed your video even though you had a little bad luck. Keep the videos coming.

One issue with this video is that it was just a bad weekend anyway. Probably my mood was not what it should be when trying to judge a campground...LOL

Yes. There was a Aliner Expedition with dormers tucked back in a double site. I didn’t really see it until we were done with this video. lol 😂

Want to thank you Rick for reviewing Crosswinds. We had not yet been to Jordan Lake (trying to hit all NC parks in the little book). Unlike your experience with the newer bathrooms, we tent-camped in the "A" loop. Had a beautiful lake view at site A46. The bathroom was okay, and have older style showers. Nice kayaking and hiking too, and it was unusually warm this week. We'll likely try the other campgrounds later, but always off-season. Always enjoy your videos, and have gotten several good leads from them. As others say, your dog Akela is the star!

Thanks for the comment. These are just my opinions, and Things that happened that weekend may have clouded my judgement a little (Flat tire and no Road Service). So its great people chime in and give their impression too. Have a great 2022!

Glad to be one of your best friends haha. I traveled full time in a van for a year in 2018 and the two most difficult things to overcome was finding a good hot clean shower and also a good clean safe laundromat haha. I found some real doozies out in California let me tell you. Luckily for me i never had to deal with a flat tire but i did have to deal with a dead battery more than once. This last spring i bought myself a used 2016 aliner ranger 12 and have been fixing it up some. Im trying to overcome some health problems at the moment but hope to get back on the road this coming summer. Wish me luck! Wanted to also say thanks for all your Aliner videos, they are what brought me to your channel originally and i also enjoy getting to watch along with you and your pups adventures. Happy travels in 2022.

I think Poplar point is much nicer. But they close it in October. So you have to go to Crosswinds. You also have fall lake just north, which is pretty nice.

@@GoingNoWhereFast we stayed an overnight at Falls Lake in 2022, but we didn’t get to explore it that well. If you get a chance check out Kerr Lake in the spring. That was is probably my favorite between all three of those lakes.

Great video thanks for sharing! Every time you do one of these videos where you show the bathroom, I'm always scared we are about to see someone using it and surprise them! This one I could hear someone showering when you had the camera going... I was seriously concerned :o) You are very creative to get the shower motion sensor to work for you, I think it's a horrible idea to have motion sensor showers for the reasons you stated. good video bestie. I have an aliner and camp there randomly. unfortunately south carolina campgrounds are so much nicer. NC campgrounds seem to be trapped in the 70s. always dingey and spidery. it's worth the drive to cross the border to clean and updated campgrounds

Interesting, My experience is the opposite. The 2 Campgrounds I have been in SC were pretty run down and dirty. But I have been in some NC that were lame. National Parks are the bottomof the barrel, but there are also many great campground in the NC State system or the National Forest System. And Season often makes a huge difference as the Peak Summer Vacation season REALLY sees a lot of over use and trashing of campsites and facilities! Thanks Laurie!! Have a great New Year !

You didn't seem too grumpy to me but I rarely use campground showers since I have my own. On the other hand, changing a flat tire would make me grumpy. Especially when they tell me it can't be fixed because the puncture is too close to the sidewall. That makes me very grumpy. That happened to me twice in one year. Over $250 dollars in relatively new tires down the drain. Argh! Anyway, I always enjoy all your videos. Happy holidays!

Thanks Tom. I was treated very nicely by the tire guys, They couldn't fix it, but changed my tires and put the bad one up underneath (which is a pain in the Arse). People in NC are great! But not having the "Roadside Assist" I thought I had in my car insurance package made me very mad and grumpy.

There were some really nice looking campsites. I am so glad that most of the time, state and public campgrounds seem to have different goals than private campgrounds as far as the size and layout of campsites is concerned. I am not knocking private campgrounds. I know they need to make the best use of their space to survive financially. Maybe Akela was trying to tell you to point the space heater in his direction. In the spring I will check out Poplar Point just up the lake when it opens. I'm told it is a much nicer park, and that the Campground Supervisor is the reason this one isn't very nice.... We shall see.

When I ran into you at Crosswinds you didn't seem to be too grumpy at the time! Jordan Lake is probably the most visited campgrounds in North Carolina. Originally the showers were not automatic and always seemed to have plenty of hot water and heat in the building.. I believe I shared with you the CG has a relatively new supervisor running the show and I feel he is responsible for some of the unpopular changes that have been made. The CG closes at least two of the areas for the winter and leave one open for winter camping. They rotate each year from one area to another. I prefer Poplar Point and they have some beautiful walk in sites in Loop D but again that CG was closed for the winter.. Anyway it was quite a surprise running into you and I did enjoy talking with you. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!

I love meeting viewers! You brightened the day considerably and it was much fun talking with you. I wish I had more time to see your rig and hear more. But I was a bit put off by the spare tire on the car and the needed to get home without getting another flat. It seems I get flats (or my niece gets flats) every time I drive I-40 through Greensboro. Unfortunately on the truck, though fortunately the truck has a Tire Pressure Monitoring System. It would be nice to have that on the trailer. And Actually, it only went flat after I pulled out the 9inch round file that was stuck in the tire.

Use puppy pads as floor mats to get dressed and dry off on instead of that dirty wet floor then just throw them away.

I’ve done that on really gross floors. But if the floor is just wet the puppy pads sticks to your feet and makes it hard to get dressed. Also it fills the trash up. Good hint though, thanks.

Cheap Flip flops to take showers in.... learned the hard way when trucking.
