In 1973 D.A. Pennebaker filmed the final performance of David Bowie as Ziggy Stardust in the Hammersmith Odeon in London. A classic concert that today has been released for the first time on blu-ray using a new 4K scan. So, what is this blu-ray like?

Hi, I went to the cinema to see this remastered, restored movie. It was superb, really superb. This morning I bought the 2CD/BR Set and the 2LP set at Satisfaction records. It's great ..... but ehhhh ... on the other side I am realizingthat I'm getting old, because Bowie's Aladdin Sane was my first vinyl album I bought in 1973. But age ...... is just a number, but Ziggy is forever. Take care.

But what a better way to start a record collection than with Aladdin Sane? Do you still have it?

@top5records796 Hi Yes still got it. I bought two albums that day: David Bowie Aladdin Sane and Alice Cooper Billion Dollar Babies. Man ..... I was proud, being 11 years old, owning 2 LP's Still got them both And yes ..... a top 5 concert films would be nice. Take care.

Thank you! I’ll make a concertfilms video! If your first two albums where Aladdin Sane and Billion Dollar Babies, bought on the same day aged 11… that’s starting off with awesome taste! I was 14 when I got my first album and it was A Night at the Opera by Queen!

I hope that, for next year the estate releases a DVD/ BluRay from the Diamond Dogs Tour. Footage wise there are 2 New York Shows, 1 Tower Theater proshot & excerpts of the LA Show from the main tour. Regarding the Soul Tour, there is 1 Washington & 1 Buffalo proshot. Excerpts from the Tower Theater proshot can be seen in 'Moonage Daydream' (during Cracked Actor & Aladdin Sane) 'Rock 'N' Roll With Me', from the Buffalo Show can also be seen in 'Moonage Daydream'.

A 1974 release would be awesome! Do you know if these shows were fully filmed? Because sometimes there is pro shot material available but only from a couple of songs for a newsreport or a documentary. And is it shot on film or video? I would really love more Bowie ‘70s shows on blu-ray!

@@top5records796 The one in LA was Shot on film, but the BBC canned every Material Not used in the Cracked Actor documentary. The guys who filmed the LA Show, Shot the entirety of that Performance. The New York Shows (MSG) where also fully filmed, though it's unknown, if they still exist. They where filmed for Bowie's privat use, cause he wanted to get into Video editing at the time. The Tower Theater proshot was filmed by RCA on colour video tape. It was later transfered to monochrome tape. (It's rumored, that the Colour Videotage had some colouring issues/ colour noise and making it monochrome eliminated these problems) This is the only KNOWN proshot from the main tour, wich was fully filmed. ;)

I read that when the the film was eventually released in the early 80’s Jeff Beck wanted his performance cut out because he was wearing flared trousers in the movie !

Just picking up on what you said- the film is still incomplete. Most glaringly the spoken intro (when bowie tells the audience to be quiet) to My Death is still absent even it appears intact on the CD. Otherwise i agree with you- the visual upgrade is superb and the sound was enjoyable. People who have their gripes with the film will onve again come out the woodwork. I think people forget that part of the ziggy persona was this strange disconnect - he could perform right to you and next second be aloof. But a great review regardless !
