SoundsAndGear.com - checking out a new product from a new company named Output, the product is called REV, and every sound or instrument is played in reverse! This is a media,film, sound design type of instrument with a very cool interface that also works well in any contemporary music production.

This review is great! When the product designers make a video they know it inside out and maybe don't let you see what it's like 'straight out of the box'. This video gives a true representation of what a product is like straightaway after buying it. I don't need someone showing off their mad programming skills - a review like this is what's needed for me! Thanks!!!

Thanks for another great review! The concept is truly inspiring. The REV also did quite a stunning launch video that's available on KZfaq. Got to say, when SoundsAndGear puts a review that's longer than 10 min, fasten your seatbelts boys and girls, cause Saint Joe got something really tasty for you all :D

The only thing that bugs me about this is that you can easily reverse any Kontakt instrument by going under the hood and selecting "Reverse." There is also an easy way to reverse every single VST you want (if you use Reaper). I'm sure other DAWs have the potential as well. But at least it doesn't confine you to their recorded sounds only :) Not a bad product, just not worth what its sold for in my opinion. Good review though.

I've got a question, and it's something you can solve when reversing a sound within a DAW, you can cut off the end of the reversed sound in order to cut out the harsh ending of the sound. Like at 2:12, my question is: is it possible to cut out the swell portion at the end of a layer so that sounds are smoother rather than having harsh ending on each note?

This sounds amazing and a great review. Im really thinking about getting this. My only concern is its more geared to film/game scoring. How well do you think it would work in EDM?
@SoundsAndGear
@SoundsAndGear 10 жыл бұрын
I'm one of those people that feel if you like the sound you can make it work for you. Meaning even though something is geared towards film, I think it could be useful in any type of music. So with this, I think if you like what you hear then you'd be able to use it in your music :) I'm not big on limits, it's all about the sound to me so I try to show as many different types as possible. I think it would work just fine in EDM for example, as well as pop, urban, and rnb :)

SoundsAndGear.com I tend to agree with you. I bought Damage because I thought it sounded great, with a good GUI. Found it hard to use in music projects though, think iv only used it in one of my productions. That said it is a percussion library, where as this is a lot more melodic.Might get it on payday lol. Thanks for the reply brotha.

While I really appreciate that you make all these reviews, they tend to frustrate me a bit because you don't seem prepared enough. It's hardly a "review" just randomly skipping through sounds, like you are discovering the product as you go along making the video and then end up saying, that you like it.. And you often just hit keys shortly instead of examining what they sound like played longer. Or like you put on an effect and just leave on for the next sounds you cycle through. Sorry for the negative critique - I'm just suggesting that your reviews could be a lot more informative, if you were better prepared, like if you did some more in depth research of the product, came prepared with a script as an outline for your video pointing out specific strong/weak sides of the product. You could also consider making a piece of music just using the product, you are reviewing. I know this is way over the top in comparison, but there are a lot of good examples to learn from with this guy doing reviews like here: Albion 3 ICENI - Overview I hope I didn't offend you and all your followers. It was all meant as suggestions for improvement.
@SoundsAndGear
@SoundsAndGear 10 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. I would suggest you look elsewhere for your reviews if mine frustrate you as this is exactly the style of reviews I do. While I am familiar with the products I like to go through them much like a person discovering a product for the first time, if you want something scripted, then this is not the channel for you as that is not my goal, style, or what I aim to do in my videos. I do this for the people who explore products the same way I do when they get them. There are plenty of folks that enjoy my style, and for those that don't there are plenty of other people doing reviews as well. No offense taken at all, I'm sure someone out there has videos that appeal to what you are looking for, obviously my videos are not it, thanks again :)
