One of my favorite pieces of gear I own, I modded and added a lot of stuff to the basic Pathfinder School bottle cooking kit, to take an already amazing product, and really get the most bang for my buck!

The wire strainer “steamer” is an excellent idea! It’s rare that I see something new in these videos...but this is an excellent kit.

+Steven C It's a great grouping of gear. I take it with me every time Ingo camping. I recently picked up one of the new generations of bags, and it makes removing everything SO much easier! As an all in 1 kit, with some additions here and there to suit my needs, it is one of my favorite pieces of gearm

Great mods to your kit. I'm going to add some to my kit. The ranger ban on the water bottle lid is brilliant, using the band to hold the bandanna for filtering will work great.

Love your mods, especially the under the lid one, maybe you could do a quick tutorial vid on how you did it? . Btw the piece in the outside, bottom of the orange match container is not a striker, it's a mini Ferro rod (at least the one on my is) . It actually works in a pinch though I'm smart enough to always have several good fire steels with me at all times. Anyway, great vid, thank you for those innovative mods. Be Blessed.

+WarGrrl3 Thanks for the kind words! I actually did do a video about the lid mod. It's called "How To: Awesome Nalgene / Kleen canteen water bottle mod". Check it out. I've tried with multiple knives to throw sparks off that little rod... To no avail. Maybe mine is defective. Haha

I like the kit and make a lot of my own I have also found large bottle carriers on a mail order site that are a little larger than what you are showing here and they work great but having trouble finding cups and lids. The side pouch is large enough to hold my folding sling shot along with other things simular to what you are carrying I attach both to my backpack one to a side and carry a small first aid kit and fire starter kit in the pouch of that one. Good idea about the pouch you added to the shoulder strap and will be getting 2. Of them soon for my shoulder straps. Also where did you get the Mora knife? Can't find them any where's and is it full tang or partial tang?

Originally, it was the Gen 3 bag. I have upgraded to the Gen 4. A little wider, so much easier to get all your nesting cups and such out. The Gen 3 bag is VERY tight. I really enjoy this kit. It is well thought out, and with some personal upgrades, it is definitely one of the best pieces of gear I own!

Just my opinion: I own this kit. It is my "EDC-Get Home Bag" cook kit. It would take me 2 days to get home from the furthest place I travel (work). This is a great "Survival Cook Kit" but I think as a "Camping Cook Kit" there are better options if you are camping with multiple people who need to cook. Great for a small use kit; not so great for larger needs. When I camp, I camp with my daughters or wife and I find a wood-gas stove and individual MSR pots work best for us. Don't get me wrong, I love this for my survival prep. but not so much for my camping needs unless I'm the only one using it to cook. Camping with the guys who all bring their own gear.... great. Three people using it and having to wait to use it.... not so good.

I use it just for myself. It's a little bit of a different setup now, than when I made this (horribly edited 😝) vid. I do have a Coleman propane, double burner stove in my truck. This is mainly just for myself, If I wanna cook while hiking, and I'm away from my truck. 👍

+jamie y True. But this kit isn't for practicing bare bones primitive survival skills. It just isn't geared that way. First and foremost, I'd use my disposable lighter to start all my fires. If it got wet, I have the ferro rod as a backup. Thank you for the comment ✌😊

have the complete, on hundred dollar kit, but in my opinion, the bag is completely useless. It's the wrong size and shape to carry easily It just wasn't well though out. The cups are heavy enough, but they're huge cups with handles for a child. The grill top stop was a terrible idea. No flame can get through, and it takes twice as long to boil water as it should. If you want to do a useful mod, cut a hole in the top of the stove. Fortunately, the bottle, the stove, and your choice of one or two cups will all fit in a G.I. canteen cover, which is actually designed for field carry, which this silly bag is not. Anything will throw sparks with a ferro rod, but that knife will not throw sparks with flint or chert, and that's the problem with stainless steel. Plus the fact that it's almost impossible to sharpen stainless in the woods. As for Dave Canterbury, he may be a world renowned bushcrafter, but he is not a survival expert. He's never even been trained for survival, which is why he got kicked off Dual Survival. He lied about his training. Nor has he ever survived anywhere without a support crew, a camera crew, and medical staff all around him. Don't believe everything you see on TV. Don't assume he designed any of the Pathfinder gear, either. Real life, or real business, doesn't usually work that way. At any rate, even whoever designed the canteen kit got the size wrong for treating water, but at least got everything else right. Whoever designed the bottle kit got the size of the bottle right, and got everything else wrong. Whoever designed these kits lacked all sorts of knowledge about survival, so maybe Canterbury did design them.

+James Ritchie Agreed. Their new bag is actually really nice though, and has plenty of room to nest everything, with nothing snagging when you remove an item. They do have a square style bag/kit. I haven't tried it out though. I recently used a Dremel and out most of the stove top, and left just a sort of "+" shape, for stability/rigidity. Makes it lighter, and the flames really get those cups boiling much faster. I like having the larger sized cups, but I also wish the handles were of a different design. I have an Olicamp nesting cup, and their handles are awesome! Much more secure to grab off a fire. But then again, That's what the spreader hooks are for I guess. Which is an absolutely fantastic design. I'm not trying to "survive" with my kit. Just have it as an all in one cooking kit. I always carry multiple lighters. Ferro rod is a last resort. And that Mora is crazy sharp, and it throws mean sparks. Plus, I always have 2 strops with me. I know the limitations of such a small kit. I just use it to camp and keep my food prep and backup fire starting materials in one place. If only I could find a way to attach my tin plate...

+Jesse White I don't even know how to respond to this. Haha. I can't speak for Dave, or for facebook (I hate facebook), but that is a horrible thing to say to someone, especially about a topic that is more important for everyday life than "bushcraft stuff". I carry a pretty good trauma/heavy bleed/first aid kit with me daily, and I've used it. A couple months ago, some guy on a job site I was on shot a 2 and 1/2 inch finishing nail right through his hand. I was the only one who had bandaids, antibiotic ointment, antiseptic wipes... Of course he went to the hospital for a tetanus shot and such, but first aid is first aid. I was able to aid him first, and stop the bleeding. We can't all simply put gunpowder on our wounds like Dave Cantebury (Dual Survival). Haha. That being said, the Self Reliance Outfitters products are top notch!
