Tired of getting cut when using a can opener? I bought this awesome can opener and wanted to share it with you guys. You will find this type under "smooth edge" can opener. I bought it with my own money and no the company didn't ask me to do a review.
Update 5/30/19 - One of the cons of this opener is that it takes good strength and skill to get an accurate cut compared to a traditional opener. My wife hates this opener, haha. I still prefer it over my old opener. The design can be improved by making the handle larger for more torque.

My wife bought a Pakitner; it looks and operates the same. When we first tried it we were so pissed it didn't work. She had already boxed it up and ready to return it to Amazon when I said "wait a minute we must be doing something wrong" so I came to your video and sure enough we were doing it right but looking for the same results as the old can opener. I thought it would cut on top not the side. It works wonderfully but the instruction should tell the user what to expect. I'm sure they get lots of returns, especially since Amazon makes it so easy. Thank you for the video.

I hear the same from other people about having a hard time learning to use it. I agree that it should come with more instructions. The learning curve for this product is pretty steep. My wife never figured it out so I'm the only one that uses it, haha. I like it but I wish the turning handle was larger for more torque because it takes some effort to turn it. 😁

1) No sharp edges. Safe, even for a child. 2) The can's top can be replaced. 3) No longer necessary to clean the top of the can prior to opening. 4) The can's top no longer falls down into, and has to be fished from, the can's contents. 5) Significant reduction in the potential for food contamination. 6) No cross contamination amongst cans of varying contents.

Sorry to hear about the cuts to your fingers! That was my motivation to move away from the traditional can opener. There are many options when choosing a safe cut can opener, make sure to read the reviews and sort them by "recent". There are also safe cut automatic can openers if you struggle with wrist arthritis.

@@ChavezDIY I think I remember first hearing about this type of can opener in the 90s. I was young and cocky and thought people who were afraid of using a can opener were... 🤷‍♀️ so I never tried one. BUT in recent years when my old one broke, the one I bought to replace it was crap, then another...so I decided to try this type. It TAKES PRACTICE! But I love it and am so used to it. I have arthritis and it is a little tough to turn the crank. My husband and I are really used to capping our refried beans with the top. Less dishes to wash! 😉 I'm sorry you got hurt using old timey can openers. I never have, but, back when concentrated orange juice required a can opener I did try to lick the concentrate off the lid by putting it in my mouth and pulling it out and, yes, I cut both edges of my mouth! 😨 I felt really stupid then! 😄

@ChavezDIY
@ChavezDIY 4 жыл бұрын
Aw shucks. My wife hates it because when she's tried she can't get the can to open either. If you're doing it correctly you should see a "crimp" like pattern as you roll through the lid. It locks on easily to the lid but its not a firm lock until you start turning the knob. You need a consistent crimp all the way around. My wife stopped half way around to adjust so she didn't get a consistent crimp all around and the can couldn't open. Give it another pass. In retrospect it requires a firm grip, I think they could make the knob larger to add leverage to make turning easier.

I have a model Farberware can opener in the same style the supposed to leave no sharp edges and please examine your cans really close at the hair-like metal fibers that it leaves behind especially if you're feeding your pets. @@nickstockbridge3334 Before I bought this type of can opener I looked at general reviews and one suggested keeping your old-style can opener to use on tuna and vegetables you want to drain. I wouldn't have thought of it until it was too late. Veggies could be drained in a colander but I'd rather not put tuna in my colander. 😃
@ravenclanx
@ravenclanx 5 жыл бұрын
I get a kick out of the design of it but my biggest problem with it is since it cuts the lid safely how would you drain the tuna can since normally you would use the tuna lid to drain the water out and since the lid gets cut on the out side i don't think its possible to put the lid in the can to drain. I'm 50/50 on deciding to buy this one or not.
@ChavezDIY
@ChavezDIY 5 жыл бұрын
That's an interesting point. I think you should be able to drain the tuna by leaving the lid slightly ajar. The opener does not cut from the inside of the lip of the can, like a traditional opener. Its like it crimps the lid and opens it. Kinda reminds me of those videos on how people open a can of tuna without a can opener. The opening is more from the top of the lid than the slightly lower part of the inner lip.
