Mississsippi River and this new variant are some of the most delicious blends of all time. Great choice for exploring new but mature flavors.

Pipe smoking isn't habit-forming in the way cigarettes are, assuming you don't inhale which is a very bad thing, (though I guess any hobby can become routine). I have no problem not smoking when I choose not to. In my opinion though it's a good thing to think of pipe-smoking as a laid-back hobby where you take your time, so waiting is no big deal. 😃

@@Bannockburn111 I'd agree with all of this. Pipe smoking can be very relaxing to me. It's the polar opposite to a cigarette where you need to spark up for a quick hit then be gone. With a pipe you have much more routine, preparation, cleaning, storing - this might make it seem a chore but I find it's anything but. Plus, if you do try to smoke a pipe too quickly, puffing on it like a steam train, it will probably punish you and/or burn out the pipe. Many of us have probably learned that lesson the hard way, and now take a pipe more slowly. Blissful!

I only just heard. I didn't know him personally or have any one on one interactions with him (aside from an email or two), but he seemed like a really great person. That's terrible news.

I was especially pleased to get the email notification since the SGs are premium tobaccos that are so infrequently available and I've been hot to try that St. James Flake for some time. Mine's already enroute for a Saturday arrival, now I just have to decide which pipe to try it in first. Enjoy yours!

@@igortheterrible8983 I imagine you'll get right into your Full Virginia Flake, but I got my St. James Flake a couple of days ago and quickly learned something critical.... I was tempted to just throw it in the closet and wait till I could get some more before I tried it, but I gave in to temptation and tore right into the package to jar it all. Boy, am I glad I did! The tobacco is packed in a big Ziploc-type bag...and it was WIDE OPEN; they hadn't troubled to zip it shut to seal it at all before it left the factory. The flakes were heavy and very flexible, but had still lost a lot of moisture through evaporation already. Instead of what Bradley refers to as 'Gawith' extreme moisture, practically soggy, that I expected, they were at close to the 'just right' moisture level. Only now are they safe...most in a quart Mason jar so they can age at their full length without being squashed down, the remainder in a 2oz jar that I keep most of my tobaccos for regular rotation in. So, to you and anyone else purchasing any of the available 250g packages of Samuel Gawith tobacco, fergodsake, *_JAR IT IMMEDIATELY!_* If yours is unsealed like mine was and you put it away to age, you'll dig it out some day only to find your precious tobacco _bone dry._ I'm going to contact Smokingpipes to let them know they need to look into this for sure, and if it's not unique to my situation to jump on the people at SG to get them to actually seal the 250g packages they put out. Oh, and my FB groups are 'Brothers and Sisters of the Briar' and 'Brothers of the Briar-Official.' If you hurry, the same guy I got my Esotericas from just posted a new pic of quite a few Esoterica bags and tins he's offering. He asks a bit of a premium over retail, especially for those with some age on them, but _nothing_ like what the eBay hoarders demand; low enough that I pulled the trigger on the Dunbar I wanted without thinking twice.

There are definite similarities.

I love Ardbeg (which, if you haven't tried it, is VERY smokey), but I don't drink it while smoking my pipe because I'm concerned the smokiness of both pipe and Scotch will interfere with each other. Might have to give it a shot sometime though. 😃

@@Bannockburn111 Petey Scotch and Smokey English blends go together perfectly. I haven't had ardberg yet, but I highly recommend Laphroaig 10. Try it out!
