Shinhan PWC Watercolor is the top grade watercolors of Shinhan brand from Korea. I was able to collect all the 84 colors (except for the additional 20 new colors, because I din't know where to get them yet in the Philippines) and this is my initial experience. After swatching all the colors and making a sample painting out some colors I usually use (same with other brands I use), all I can say is the Shinhan delivers very vibrant colors. A lot of the lighter colors are made opaque by PW6, but I really love some of them like the verditer blue, lavender and davy's grey. I am looking forward to having the new 20 colors of the SHinhan PWC because most of the colors are going to be lightfast rated 3/3 (highest) and also, most of them are greens and yellows. For more information about the Shinhan brand, you can visit this link.. www.shinhanart....
I bought this in Artbar, Artwhale and in National bookstore (all in the Philippines)

This is amazing!!! Thank you sir Allan! You helped me a lot in choosing this set 😭. I was on the verge of choosing the lesser grade of shinhan which is the Shinhan Professional Set in 30 colors in 7.5ml which is far cheaper than the Shinhan PWC Extra Fine 15ml expensive line. And yet they're still both affordable! It turns out that the PWC Extra Fine is more available in terms of single 15ml tube paints in the market because you were able to complete it locally. On the otherhand, the cheaper set is rarer and in only 7ml tubes. This means that the PWC Extra Fine is worth the money after all! Thank you so much for your video, this is what I need. God bless and take care always! 😇😇😇

Hi! I'm happy that i was able to help you through this review. And I agree, many are confused with how Shinhan differentiate their lines, the Professional and the PWC. And there's another one, the SWC wjich is practically the same same as PWC but only purposedly released for Korean market. And yes, i really think PWC , despite the fact that it's more expensive, is a better catch compared to professional in the long run. Artbar still has some PWC sets of 24 and 36 thr last time (March) i went there. ☺️ God bless too and stay Healthy.

Really liked your video. I saw a promotion in these paints at my art store and was afraid of getting it. Your video made me decide to buy them. I also see that some colours are very similar with several hues mixing a pigment with PW6, which made me decide to get a smaller palette. Thank you so much! In time, you're an excellent watercolour painter! ☺️

Yes. I am very satisfied. The pigments are intense and I find it dries and flows differently from "western" brands like DS, WN or even Holbein and mission gold. I like it a lot when the paints behave a little differently because I have unexpected effects and it also forces you out of your confort zone.

Thank you so much for dropping by and for taking time to watch the review. I myself was looking for reviews of paints from local/Filipino artists because it's more relatable in most ways, but there were few. So, when I was able to collect paints, I had the idea to start reviewing each brand. I still have lots of brands to review such as Mijello, Holbein, Schmincke, Sennelier, Sakura Koi, Van Gogh, Gansai and more, but I just need more time. Please stay tuned. Thank you. 😊

Hello Allan! Thank you so much for sharing your awesome collection with us! I have a question. I am VERY fond of Daniel Smith’s Transparent Red Oxide. However, a DS tube is almost twice as much as a PWC where I live. Is there a suitable replacement in Shinhan’s line? Light Red seems to be similar in hue, but it doesn’t seem to be very transparent. Maybe Burnt Sienna? Most importantly, can they create as beautiful mixtures as TRO can? I had the same question about DS’s Raw Umber, but it seems that Shinhan’s equivalent is too weak to be a suitable replacement. Let me know what you think! Thank you for your precious information :D

Hi Jay, I know this one's a month old, I just caught a peek at your leather bound sketchbook for your swatches. Can I ask where you got it? I'm looking for a new sketchbook. Also I bought Cobalt violet pv 14 a month ago in PwC. This pigment sometimes has a hard time activating in any brand, I compare this one to holbeins which is favourite they use pv47. The PwC is most comparible and is a beautiful paint. Great video my friend. I really enjoyed watching you swatch and your thoughts on the pigments. Ps. I think it's wonderful you shared this set with your viewers, art should be shared it made me smile, one artist to another xo

Hi, im glad you visited this video. This is my longest video, since it's a full range, and the more people see it, the more my effort and dedication is reciprocated. So thanks for that. 😊 For the leather journal, i bought it in 2017, it's a Labrador, a Thai brand, i believe. I browsed through their website, bit i couldn't find anymore exact same journal as mine. Anyway, this link im attaching is same price and size.. shoplabrador.com/product/ls38-ph-organizer-l5/ By the way, it came with an ordinary printer paper, which i replaced with arches 185gm and some ither watercolor papers. 😊 Yes, i agree. Cobalt violet reacts like that always and almost jn any brands ive seen, and it's a proof the real unique pigment is in it and not just a substitute. 😊 Yeah, i really love to share my experience and my collection because it will give more meaning and value is it is shared and also i love hearing from other artists too. It's a healthy way of learning and at the same time giving. 😊 I'm glad to have made you smile. 😊 🎨

Thanks so much. Shinhan was quite reasonable in the USA until just now. Their prices are climbing: a 32 pc. Set is $119.35 today, for 15ml. I'm also curious about your 185lb. paper. We can't get that in the states. It's either 140 lb. or 300 lb. Arches in Hot, Cold or Rough textures. I notice that there are remainder dots of color on your samples. Is this because these sat for a while and dried before you washed them out? It looks as though they don't flow well at all.
@AllanJayQuesada
@AllanJayQuesada 5 жыл бұрын
You are very welcome, Judith. 😊 Oh is that so? May because shipping from Korea is more expensive now. Yeah, here in the Philippines, we are supplied by either 300g or 185g Arches papers. Yes, they have dried already before I sawtched them. The dots had been sitting for a day before I was able to swatch them. The Shinhan actually flows well, unless we compare it to Qor. Maybe my lighting has affected how it appeared to flow. But yeah, it was OK for me. My only thing baout Shinhan is that there are a lot of opaque colors because they mix pw6 often. Lots of colors are also only 2 stars over 3 for lightfastness. I am glad they have more 3 stars in their new 20 colors though.

@@AllanJayQuesada Thanks Allan. I really enjoy your reviews, a great deal. I particularly like the paintings you do so well. Most people slap down some paint in a simple "coloring book, " style after a demo, if the do one at all. YOU, highliight the paints to their best advantage: mixing and layering until the full effect of a brand can be seen in a small finished piece. That's the only way to know how something actually works. In the States, we have access to a great deal of information and unfortunately we take it for granted that peoples around the world do also, because of the internet(and our ignorance of other countries.) We don't realize that others don't have the access we do for various reasons: quite often location and economics. Your demos have a far reaching effect, not just for us, because of your excellent presentations; but for those who have a more limited access and need trustworthy information. Thank you for us all. Qor is probably the most free flowing of all the brands I've tried. They are costly, even here, but a little goes a very long way. There is one brand that I wonder about a lot. Blockx. Mandy Von George, from Holland does some outstanding brand paint reviews on KZfaq and she did one on them. They are probably the most expensive brand out there as they are made in Belgium., But, I mention them because she commented on how rich and "sticky," they are. That usually means a great deal of honey. My point is that with so much honey in them, they are unlikely to dry out so quickly while working in the heat, as you do. Perhaps you could ask her about them. She speaks about the intense pigmentation of the colors as being something that needs getting used to, but that might be helpful for you, and others in intense heat, like Australians, Middle Eastern and South American countries often experience. I don't know. I may be way off base, but it's information that might prove useful. Who knows? Perhaps and a follower in Belgium, might send you a sample sheet, (which contains and amazing amount of paint,) or the company might be willing to have you do a review and send some free paint to you. In any case, it's worth asking about. Again, many thanks, Allan!.

@@juditharowland3461 thanks for the kind words Judith. It is both the passion for the arts and the will to spread that passion across nations that push us to continue to improve in our craft. And I yes, I am maximizing the internet as well to learn and share what I Learn. I am really curious about Qor because of its properties. I might get a set soon, after I finish reviewing at least these 15 brands that I own.. I wish I could finish all by April so I could share some other demos and tips and maybe paint comparisons. I'm interested also to Blockx, also the Meimeri? Can't remember. Hehe. But I am more excited to get to try more hand made paints after experiencing the beautiful A. Gallo from Italy. And if some paint manufacturers can gift me, even just dot cards to try and review their paints, that would be very awesome already for me. 😊 I hope people from the other side will also get to realizs that there are also watercolorists here in this part of Asia and that we are also interested to grow as artists. @@AllanJayQuesada Good for you, Allan! I have MaiMeri Blu, out of Italy and it is stunning. If you like Gallo, you'll like these. Very transparent and also expensive. Not as much as Blockx, but pricey. As for handmade paint, other than a few known individuals I would take care. It seems like everyone in the states is trying their hand at making watercolor paint. There is much more to it than measuring binder and pigment and using a pestle to grind them. That is why paint companies use huge metal rollers for very long times. Gallo? Definitely.There is something about Italians and their paint, much like Sennelier or Schmencke. You can tell in a heartbeat that it's special. I saw that in Gallo the first time it was used, and your results were just the same. Others that I have tried, not so much. People like them because of the "Handmade," label and frequently because of the fancy wrapping. Fancy wrapping is just that ..wrapping. It isn't the paint. One on one, I usually find them wanting. If they are mineral based quite often they are dull and grainy even when there isn't supposed to be much granulation. And you never know what the lightfast rating actually is because the brands aren't formally tested. Qor is unique and special. It is manufactured by Golden Paint, here in the States. They are the company that make the Golden Acrylic paint so many people use. It uses a non organic, non animal sourced, binder called Aquasol, not Gum Arabic. Only Qor uses this but it mixes well with any watercolor paint. It glows, no questions there and they have 5 ml. sets for under $100 USD. Their 24pc. assorted will go a very long way should you choose to get some. You should also contact Ben Gavett, at Qor. He might be able to send you dot cards for them. I did learn something else that may be of benefit to you. Jackson's paint, from the online Jackson store in England, sells worldwide and is remarkably like Sennelier at 1/3rd the price. Try them. You might be able to get a store affiliation for the South Pacific and if so, could get some samples. It doesn't hurt to ask. Often paint manufacturers make a house brand for a company,( usually stateside, I believe,) and it turns out to be the same paint, in different tubes. Primarily, the label of the company selling it. Usually that company is a large art store. I cannot say for sure, but I believe that the Dick Blick watercolor paint may be made by M. Graham. I could be wrong but I have an allergy to the honey they use and I tested some Blick paint and I had the same issue. Great paint: the problem is all mine. M. Graham also glows. Another brand well worth trying is Da Vinci. They make paint in 15 ml. and 37ml. tubes and it is priced well below it's value. DaVinci watercolor is prized by some outstanding artists. I know about it because I have had contact with the Company itself. Cheap Joe's, American Journey is made by DaVinci but buying the actual DaVinci brand directly from the manufacturer, is less expensive. Cheap Joe's as a store or online is a drop dead wonderful; wonderful, place to buy supplies. It's tucked away in a very tiny town called Boone, in North Carolina, on the East Coast. They are very small but with a hugely generous heart and talented people. See them on KZfaq. If you have any questions about something "arty," thee Dick Blick Product Information team is a wonderful resource as well. They offer free information that is very useful when anyone calls in. The C.S people there really know their art supplies and are able to freely share what they think would be of benefit. You can trust them also. That's about it for now. Let me know if you want any more information and I will see what I can do to help. FYI, Australia also has some excellent brands and they are closer to you. I can't check them out, but you can. It's worth a shot. Be well..........and happy painting, Allan!

I found the 24 set on Jackson and it seems like the postal cost is way less for delivering to India. I may pick it up instead of fully diving into the daniel smith realm since I am only searching for lightfast pigments for selling my pieces. Daniel smith, as an India, is a luxury to me.
@AllanJayQuesada
@AllanJayQuesada 3 жыл бұрын
Definitely agree for the strong point of focusing on the pigments that are reliable and lightfast. 🙌 6-10 colors is actually enough if those are the reliable pigments. My worries if you get the set of Shinhan, some of the pigments in that set might not be as lightfast as the others, so think about that point as well. If you get 6 - 10 select colors of 5ml tubes in Daniel Smith that would cost lesser than the price of the Shinhan set.. or maybe around 8 select 15ml tubes on Shinhan.

If they eventually figure out they don't, it's less painful for the pocket. 2nd is, some beginners specially those who have started with the chalky and maputlga paints like Simbalion may get "overwhelmed" with the pigmentation artist grade has.. hahaha. And i find that funny. Whenever I'm asked, my advise is, het the best you can afford. 😉 With regards to the 2.. hmmm van Gogh is my top choice for student grades while PWC of Shinhan is at like top 16-20 out of my artist grade paints.. so having that said, parang nagtatagpo na sila. Hahaha. Well, id still advice you to get shinhan. But a bigger advice i van give is to choose the pigment/colors wisely.. another advice i can give if youre getting pwc set? Just get the pure pigment set of Mijello, as the pigments there are already well selected. 😉

I think Shinhan’s green series was the best in the world, but the paints are seldom available in China,only 32set,there is no single tube for sale in China.

Yes, I agree. They're greens are great. And much more, when you see the new 20 additional colors which include more lightfast greens such as chromiums. Have you tried searching through Amazon? I found some sellers of individual tubes there. 😊

@@featherarrow3156 oh.. I saw it in Amazon US. If youre not able to access Amazon US, i think you may want to try reaching out Shinhan Website directly. Korea is nearer to China, so i think, it may be easier and shipping fee is cheaper.. 😊

Hello! I watch your videos a lot po! I’ve been meaning to ask you what to choose? My options are shinhan and sonnet (though it is only a repackaged shinhan half pan)
@AllanJayQuesada
@AllanJayQuesada 3 жыл бұрын
Hello. Thank you. 😉 If ang choice mo is Shinhan PWC, then go for it kasi artist grade yun. But if ang choice is Shinhan Professional, that is the lower grade, so better ang Sonnet. Sonnet comes in full pans and are also good. 😉🎨

It seems that the paint is not very "SOLUBLE", i mean, after you dotted the paint (or perhaps it is too long it left drying), when you start the swatching, the water do not seems to dissolve or move the dried dot easy enough..... Just a suspicion.
@AllanJayQuesada
@AllanJayQuesada 3 жыл бұрын
yes, true to some colors. some rewet easily, some dont. i guess, because of the pigment character and because some have more binders when i dotted them.

Ano pong mas maganda? Holbein or Shinhan PWC
@AllanJayQuesada
@AllanJayQuesada 4 жыл бұрын
Hmmm. Very comparable silang dalawa sa totoo lang. Pati sa color names and pigments. Pero parang for me lang, medyo mas matingkad si PWC. Pero parang mas transparent overall si Holbein.. kung sinong mas maganda, i think, patas lang talaga. Siguro doon ka nalang sa kung alin anv mas mura at available. ☺️

You're very fortunate to have the means and access to these artist grade paints you've mentioned. ☺️ Lahat yan ay ok, wala nMan tapon. (I suppose the winsor newston is the professional not the cotman). If it is, id choose winsor and newton pro. Nextbsi holbein then si pwc. The most affordable artist Grade paints are the the White Nights and Marie's Masters watercolors. If you want to have these cheapest brands, they're available in my Shopee store. ☺️ Thank you and welcome din.

Shinhan Extra Fine PWC naman is ganon din like Maries Maries, angkaibahan sa texture is mas liquid ung Shinhan. Mas maganda color selection nun, same price lang halos hehe
