[Review] Sony DCR-HC32 From 2005

This is a review on the Sony DCR-HC32. Another one of my dads camcorders. A very basic camcorder and I realized after posting this that this camcorder actually has a touch screen. unfortunately it is broken though. The screen doesn't actually detect the pressure of your finger so you cant access the menu or use the playback functions. So I actually had to use my canon gl1 to digitize the footage.

Got this camera from my dad it was his old camera and funny u made video on this but recently i filmed with it and didnt realize how bad the memorystick duo video quality and lagginess of it, Great review btw

Yeah mine actually doesn’t have a working touch screen so I can only shoot in auto mode. And mine is also my dads camera haha

To get to the menu you have to turn off the easy mode, then press the button says "P-MENU" and you will find there. By the way nice video!

whats up bro! sick vid. Im not sure if u remember but a couple vids ago i commented asking about problems with the SD to Video ion thing. So i just ended up ordering a new cable and turns out that was the only problem. Thanks for your help bro! it works amazing now

Hey thanks man and yeah I don’t think the cables that come with the ion video 2 sd are any good. Mine ended up losing video signal as well as an audio signal.

Great Video! Just wanted to know: I have the same camera from my dad aswell alongside multiple miniDVs and I was wondering, can i watch the footage through the usb connection? I don't have the cable so i thought i'd ask before buying it :)

No unfortunately the usb cable is for transferring photos from the memory stick

footage is super sharp considering you're using the Clearclick hopefully someday you'll use firewire capture to compare the results

I yeah those are pretty cool little cameras. I’m gonna guess it’s from the mid 2000s? And is it touch screen? If it is I know they can have issues with the touch screen not working

Hey Brandon, I got a message on this handycam saying i need to clean the tape head; i've ordered one tape head cleaner but it'll take 2 weeks to arrive. Can i still record the videos on the mini dv cassete? or should i just not use it till i get the tape head cleaner?

Yeah it won’t record anything to the tape till you clean the tape heads. That or the footage will be very glitchy

The Sony hc series usually end up have issues with the screen. Usually the touchscreen stops working but I’m not sure why it’s not turning on.

Ever figure out the menu problem. I cannot seem to find how to even set the date, time and playback ect?

Yeah the screen is touchscreen and these camcorders have issues where the screen will stop detecting the touch of your finger and you can’t use any of the camcorder functions from the touch screen. So therefore playback will not work you will have to put the tape into another cameras to watch the footage

No I don’t think so I think these models and similar ones have defective screens and the eventually stop working because the one I have is the exact same way

Hi sorry for the late response. I use a video converter called the clearclick video 2digital 2.0. And you’ll need a Sony specific av cable to transfer the footage. It takes sd cards but only for pictures 😕

I have the card and all the accessories but I have the model with the yellow orangery color viewfinder, handycam station and the compatible computer to DV cameras... 🙏🙏🙏🤣🤣🤣

i have this same model camera. The touch screen does not function (of course)🙄 I don't know what Sony was smoking that day they thought only making the playback functions accessible via that touchscreen was a good idea...

No In the early days of sd cards you could only take pictures I think because the cards had extremely low capacity like 2-4gb. But there are some Sony models out there that can record video to the Sony memory sticks. Ones I know of off the top of my head are the dcr-pc110 and the dcr-trv22. But the video quality is honestly terrible

I’m not sure why but I know that the hc models have issues with the touchscreen not being responsive

Yeah literally like 85% of the camera functions are accessed from the touch screen. Which is really dumb. You’ll have to get another mini dv camera to watch your Footage

I need to know if the function “AV -> DV Out” is ON by default or Off. I found a cheap one but with a bad screen and I need to know if it comes “ON” from the factory or not Please help!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻 The manual does not specify it

Do you need a memory stick to record video? Or just for taking pictures?

No you’ll need a mini dv tape to record. The memory sticks are for photos only
