My favourite moment this season was Roman breaking down over being unable to think of ONE happy memory of Logan, but finally remembers Connor taking him on a fishing trip as a kid. Although Connor may be depicted as an idiot, there's no denying that he cared about his siblings more than Logan ever did.

I felt Conner’s lashing out about about being the first son was a projection of feeling left behind and ignored by their dad and by his siblings, who values them more than they value him, and the fact that Roman could only remember Connor as a vaguely paternal figure from his childhood over their dad solidifies that.

also I dont think that the point of the shareholder meeting ep was that the roy siblings can't make decisions by themselves, but that as long as logan is alive they can't make the decisions they want because they're afraid of him
@Narniangirl17
@Narniangirl17 Жыл бұрын
Exactly! The failures of the children are all due to Logan's own parenting. He manipulates, controls and tears them down to the point they will always doubt themselves as long as he continues to have any power over them. I genuinely feel they would each be better at both business and life in general if they could get out from under his influence.
@overlydramaticpanda
@overlydramaticpanda Жыл бұрын
Yup. All throughout the show it's been made pretty clear that the siblings aren't really the problem in terms of their decision-making; Logan is. Logan is constantly (either intentionally or not) getting the kids into difficult situations with regards to the business and then ridiculing them for even attempting to find solutions to the problems Logan's got them into. Kendall pretty much saves the company from the debt Logan got them into by making the deal with Stewy at the start of S1 but Logan instantly tears down the decision when he learns about it and calls him an idiot; in the shareholder ep, Shiv makes a genuinely smart decision when Logan is incapacitated but he still lays into her and tells her that he would have thought of something better; even in the finale when Roman offers him love (which anyone truly intelligent would translate to loyalty, and which is an important thing that Logan lacks in his business decisions since he clearly has a habit of burning bridges that leave him increasingly vulnerable) in exchange for not just hanging them all out to dry, Logan rips him apart and potentially completely destroys his relationship with the one child who still even remotely trusted him. Logan doesn't truly want anyone succeeding him or feeling like they're capable of succeeding him because as far as he's concerned, the moment any of them truly feel capable of taking over is the moment he gets a knife in the back - hell, Kendall's already proved that multiple times. He's basically trained the Golden Trio to desire the position of his successor but to also inherently feel unworthy of it without realising that eventually, they're going to feel so unworthy of the position that they will simply no longer want it (at least not on his terms) - as of the end of S3, Kendall at least appears to have reached that line of no longer wanting it, Shiv's on her way there, and now Roman's on that journey as well. The S3 finale showed how much more effective the siblings are when they come together and are actually allowed to feel confident about their decisions - they're even able to decide very quickly on a potential power structure between the three of them following the planned takedown of Logan without any arguing at all - and the most heartbreaking thing is that the plan legitimately could have worked if only Shiv hadn't phoned Tom. And the great irony of Tom's "win" at the end of S3 is that he is still pretty much Logan's last option to keep things in the family (at least until Greg comes crawling up the ranks).

@@Brbrnskhgf5666 They have a relationship and some people identify as Bromance, and some people as Romance, and I don't know why you would have such a big problem with it. Their relationship definitely does have a psycho-sexual nature to it since it is so intertwined with affection and holding power over one another. And Sporus scene proves that dynamic, as Sporus and Nero do not have a lot of stories to pull from aside from their marriage. I read that as Tom's loyalty lying closer to Greg than to Shiv. But it is not far off to call it more than friendship due to the nature of the Sporus & Nero story. Also what if they DID write Tom's need/want to control of Greg as a twisted infatuation. The writers of the show are great at what they are doing, so no matter how they portray it it is going to be great. No need to be homophobic about it. All the relationships of the show have great nuance to them no matter what their title is.

And yeah he’s a pretty entitled and lame but he’s been shit on so much. The scene when they laughed at him for shitting his pants on a trip he took Roman on was sad knowing he was basically taking the role of their dad. I’m glad he stood up for himself in the final 4-sibling conversation Edit: u can also see how badly he wants someone to love him like at that random sex-drug party where he tells random chicks that he loves them and ofc getting his escort to date him with the prospect of financial and professional support (while she’s still kind of an escort)

So the kids indecisiveness in the shareholder meeting episode was due almost entirely to fear that their dad would disapprove of whatever decision they supported. I think each thought they knew what was the right move, it's just Logan's shadow is cast over literally every decision they make business wise and almost every decision they make personally. So while the kids are sometimes in over their heads they carry that fear around their neck and it handicaps them.

This is my favorite season of Succession because of how diverse each episode felt and mainly for exposing ALL characters at their weakest state (which is when they're most human). Kendall has been drowning deeper and deeper at one point it felt like that could be literal. Shiv has been taking sh*t every episode and throwing it on to Tom. Tom finally give up on the lost cause for love from the Roy's and go in for the win. Greg finally take the devil's hand. Roman's build up his game strongly (disgustinglu) to finally earn some cookies from his dad, only to get crushed in one stupid seconds. Finally, Logan's response to his first challenge in a long time was to unleash his true beast form, and it was glorious to watch every second. Season 4's gonna be a long wait.

I think it's interesting that you said that Logan always wins, because I don't think he did, Mattson won. In too much birthday, he was angry that Mattson sent his lackies to negotiate the deal. And by the end, Logan had to go to Mattson's house to ask for a deal. While Logan always wins, legacy media couldn't beat big tech. And while Mattson seems to respect logan that does not change the fact that he wants him dead and far away.

I'm still waiting for the "relationship" between Tom & Greg to develop even more. I seriously thought Tom was gonna kiss Greg when he delivered the "good news" of them not going to prison.. and honestly that would've been Fantastic, to complicate the relations in this show even more, specially with that Nero reference that left my jaw dropping for some reason.. But I don't think the writers would risk that, now that Tom is in Logan's Grace and I have a feeling that he would test Tom using Greg somehow, and I would enjoy watching that very much Thank you in advance. I'm so excited to see Conner finally get more lines and having more to do this season, and who knows what will happen with Wella saying yes (I really hope they have a disastrous wedding if it happens). Rumer has it they are casting a divorce lawyer, could be for Logan and Marcia or Tom and Shiv.. I really want to see Jeremy or Brian or Matthew take an Emmy or a golden globe for their performances.. and till next year comes I'll re-watch the show and beg someone to write some decent fanfic.. if anyone has read all of this I love YOU

@@dirtymike3329 That's the irony of it, that they identify as "straight".. but their interactions and Tom's admission that he "would castrate Greg and marry him in a heartbeat" tells another story. I don't think Tom sees Greg through a sexual lens, I think Greg to Tom as @Just an Observation said is his work wife, when he hears a bad news he tells Greg, when he hears a good news he rushes to tell Greg, because Greg actually LISTENS to him, something no one in this family concern themselves with doing. I don't think they're gonna be together, Logan won't have that.. but the fangirl in me enjoys the homoeroticism like I enjoy it in every other fandom I'm in like (Drarry, Snarry, … etc.), which reminds me Where the Heck are the fanfictions of this show?? I found 11 and all of them are either about Kendell or Rom and Jerry..

@@eshraqahmad7782 it’s foreshadowing!!! For fucks sake! Tom isn’t actually going to kill Shiv, castrate Greg and enter into a romantic relationship with him. The “killing” was the betrayal. In the show, whenever Logan or stewy or Kendal or Roman talk about winning the refer to killing their opponents. Tom and Greg are really best friends. They’re bros. They share their troubles with one another. They confide in one another. Now they’re ride or die. They’ve built up trust and intimacy. The end of season 3 showed us, metaphorically, the story of Nero and Sporus through Tom and Greg. Tom betrays Shiv. All the trust, closeness and intimacy Tom had for Shiv was transferred to Greg, they’re partners in this betrayal or crime, literally. They covered up the cruise scandal together and now betrayed the siblings. They’re not sexually attracted to one another. I think we see what we want to see. If you’re a homosexual man watching the show, you want Tom and Greg to become romantic. It’s not gonna happen. All of a sudden these two straight dudes are gonna suddenly realize they actually like dick? I don’t think so. I know plenty of straight dude that tease each other with homoeroticism. Doesn’t actually mean they wanna fuck each other.

@@kimberlyrose984 Sure, *they are really good friends... I hate to disappoint you and say that I am a hetro, cis woman who just loves seeing a Bromance if we may call it that.. and if you have read through my comment you'd have seen me writing that I know that they are NOT going to be involved with each other, cause that is not what Jesse Armstrong would focus on.. I KNOW that the Nero story is metaphoric, it's just my fanfiction side would take that literally since I read in other fandoms and most of it is slash..

I thought the finale really pulled the season together in the end. It definitely wasn't a bad season by any means, though I did feel that the first few episodes felt kind of samey and would have preferred slightly more drastic consequences from the season 2 finale (and maybe a more involved failure from Kendall instead of his campaign just petering out)

Are we really going with that quote as your favorite when we have Logan's "I guess I'm a climate denier" quote? To follow that up, I'd also go with episode 6, What It Takes as my top. Love the way they depict how fkd our political system is by having a flock of corporate giants dictate who the next prez. Remarkable yet depressing.
@ElectroSocketBlues
@ElectroSocketBlues 2 жыл бұрын
I don't think Tom is really a better person than anyone else in the series! I think Logan's emotional (and implied physical) abuse is crucial to understanding why all the Roy kids are so self-obsessed and power-hungry: looking out for number one and cravenly grasping for power is what they were taught their father values and is the avenue they see for earning his love. It's not an excuse, but it is an explanation. Tom has also been a social climber looking for status since the beginning of the show: we're introduced to him asking his wife what kind of present to buy for Logan, how to ingratiate himself with the top dog. His support for Logan was not selfless compassion for an unwell old man, it was a strategic corporate power play. As much as he genuinely loves Shiv, he's been seeking status since the beginning of the show, and he simply got his chance this season. No doubt Shiv has treated him HORRIBLY and it's satisfying to see him get a W, but imo he's not like, the secret good guy of the show.
@ElectroSocketBlues
@ElectroSocketBlues 2 жыл бұрын
To amend this, I think all of these characters are complex; Tom caring for Logan when he was incapacitated may well have been motivated in part by genuine compassion! But Tom is not *consistently* a character who sticks up for the little guy or who cares for the weak throughout the show any more than any of the other characters. Kindness is not what nets a win in Succession.
@SweetJeopardy

@@ElectroSocketBlues who's that little guy he's stuck up for? If you mean Greg, he's only transferring Logan's treatment of him as his useful idiot. Hell, even Greg's grandfather has stuck up for him more than Tom has

Plus seriously someone needs to teach that man a lesson one day. And I agree the character of Matsson is brilliant. Alexander Skarsgard nails ever single performance. And it seems like he’s good at playing slimy characters but I also saw him in a movie recently called What Maisie Knew and he played a really nice guy which he also nailed.
