Hello Tom. Thank you for the kind words! Those bikes are quite different though they are similar in what they can do. The GSD is going to be more compact and easier to store, while the Load is super stable and can carry heavier loads with less impact on handling. I would highly recommend finding a local dealer so you can test ride the both of them as that is going to be the best way to know what you enjoy best.

@@thenewwheel Thank you for your reply. My local guys are awesome (bought my Orbea from them) but the GSD always sells out almost before any models hit the store floor. I have ridden a Load 60 which really didn't take that long to get used to. My wife tells me she hates bakfiets so the decision may have been taken out of my hands.

Hello Tristan. Totally hear where you are coming from, but I would argue that cafe locks are fundamentally a light deterrent to theft. I would argue that in reality a cafe lock attached to the frame versus the fork is nearly identical from a security perspective if the bike is not attached to someone, as the purpose of a cafe lock is to deter someone riding away with the bike, but can’t stop someone picking the bike up and sticking it in a van or something like that. If a thief disassembles the front end of the bike and then carts away the rear end, it effectively does the same thing as a cafe lock on the rear of the bike: it stops someone from riding off with your bike. For locking your bike out of sight for a longer period of time, we always recommend an additional frame lock to lock the bike to something sturdy.

Thanks for the reply and I guess I should have been more clear. I do agree that they are a light (extremely light) deterrent and say the same in my reply, I also mention that let's face it, people use this for more than that. The part I should have been more clear about i s the optional chain lock, even if it is put through the frame and then the rack you can simply take the fork off, then the wheel off the fork and slip it through the frame. There are certain spots on the frame this won't work but most people are going to put it through the largest easiest hole to get it through. Now your thief has the bike and all they needed was an allen key and maybe 2-3 minutes. I don't think it can be argued that the chain is being used for simple quick trips, it is medium protection against theft and people have more faith in it. I understand you guys have an agreement with Tern and sell their products and don't want to taint the relationship, but that doesn't mean you should defend a bad design choice. I really love what you guys do but it just isn't a great idea to put the lock on the fork, that is why an almost every single other bike it is on the frame, especially when it can be hooked up to a chain lock. I think I understand why Tern made this choice, it is super hard on this frame to put it in the normal spot, below the seat and forward on the rear wheel. That being said, they could have put it behind the wheel underneath the rear light, there is lots of space there and frame where there normally isn't frame on a bike. Once again, love you guys, love your reviews, this one I just don't agree with that one single decision. Tern bikes are amazing and I've been lucky enough to ride the Tern GSD and it was amazingly fun and well balanced bike. Game changer for cargo bikes and that isn't an exaggeration. However they aren't perfect and have made a sub-par design choice in this case.

Sorry also forgot to add that the chain is relatively short and most people will assume that since the part it locks into is connected to the bike that they won't need to put it through the frame. I know this is the wrong assumption and they shouldn't be doing that but that is how a lot of people use it. With this front fork setup it'll be pretty easy to take. Correct me if I'm wrong but that chain is only 85cm I believe.

We do have the Rohloff version and we like it, but it is a personal preference for sure!

Both bikes are great. The generation 2 GSD is going to be coming into stock very shortly, so the wait shouldn’t be all that much longer!

I'm sure the S00LX will be great for you and your terrain. The benefit of the R14 is that you will get better range on a charge because the hub is super efficient (and the R14 comes standard with two batteries of course). If you have the budget, go for the R14, but you will be super happy with an S00LX as well

That's a good question.... not sure yet. We will need to check when stock comes in!

The small wheels on the Tern plus the Bosch motor make it climb extremely well; that being said, the derailleur version is going to feel a bit more powerful as the efficiency is higher. Where do you live? Are your hills San Francisco steep?

A 20% gradient climb on our daily nursery drop off, trying to weigh up the extra gear range on derailer (480 Vs 380% on hub I think?) vs easy maintenance with belt and hub (we tend to go through chains on our current ebikes). Unfortunately no S00s available to test ride locally atm. Thanks again!

No this is not possible on this bike.

The belt + enviolo or Rohloff is a very nice setup, but the derailleur version works nicely as well, though will have a bit more running cost due to chain wear. That being said, reliability has been fantastic across the line once the bike is dialed in by a mechanic.

Wattage will range a bit. Nominal is 350 but 550 or so peak. On a mid-drive wattage though is not the most important spec: torque is more important. The cargo line motor has a max torque of 85 Nm which combined with a wide gear range will get you up anything. Put simply, the goal on an ebike is highest torque with lowest wattage.

No it should be able to handle that rider weight but you may want to make some adjustments and upgrades to the seatpost.

The only way the handlebars can move is if the adjustable stem bolts have loosened up. This can happen over time if the bolts are not checked and is solved by torquing the bolts to the correct specification which is listed on the part. Regularly serviced bikes should not have this come up. Hope this helps!

The HSD is a relatively new bike in Tern landia. We don’t expect a big update until 2022 at the earliest. That being said, there is a new model on the horizon...

If you dont have kids or not making a lot of cargo trips in other words you don’t need the size of the GSD it has all the advantages of a 20 inch wheel bike with folding handle bars. It needs gen 4 Bosch / 2nd battery / and Rohloff gearing.....you then have TERN totally owning the 20 in wheel cargo/commute/travel bike market Strike while the iron is hot Pass it on to your rep or Josh
