Earliest pressings of 1988 CD's have EMI Parlophone Logo's on back, later pressings have Apple logos on back. Something one may consider if piecing a box like this.

I grew up with these CDs. It used to be my primary source for their music but one day my friend lost all my CDs. I thought the 2009 remasters obsoleted these so I never really looked back….. and then of course Andrew from Parlogram recommends this bread bin set. Indeed much to my surprise, the later albums do sound better…. But what got me a little emotional was all the nostalgia. The packaging, the simplicity, the unimaginative, stern designs/labels on the CDs….. it’s all there exactly like the way I remembered it. I paid $110 on eBay. I don’t regret it at all. Right after I saw this video I quickly ran to see if the booklet was in my bin… and it was there underneath all the CDs like it was a secret all this time 😂 thank you so much for this video! I love your reviews. Right now I’m hunting for the best stereo pressing of each album. Some of the albums are no brainer (German PPM, Canadian WTB, -1/-1 BFS, German MMT and -2/-1 AR) The others are highly debatable and I always take your recommendations seriously so I buy them before doing needle drops before doing A/B comparisons…

This is a nice set. I bought the individual Beatles CDs back in 1988 and 1989. The later CDs are much better than the earlier ones. I love the version of Sgt. Pepper with the slipcase -my copy was just the standard jewel case with booklet crammed into the slots which caused it to get wrecked. The white album sounds really good but it has some indexing issues on a few songs like Bungalow Bill and Don’t Pass Me By. Thanks so much for sharing.

Lastly if memory serves right, the first batches of the first four Mono CD's, were originally listed as ADD on back in error. When the back inserts were re-printed, the errors were corrected to AAD.

Pretty cool, Brian. I never knew about that set but I do remember the whole CD thing in the 80s and the excitement when FINALLY the Beatles ones were coming out. I never had a copy of For Sale before that first batch's release. I think I bought it at Crazy Eddie's.

I have the vinyl version of that box set from 1988. The albums are DMM pressings from a digital source

The mono cds had a issue with the mastering because they used a stereo head on the tape head when converting the tapes to digital. In short the EP Box Set shows the 87 early albums cds should have sounded like

I bought that box set in 1990. It's still.the only cds i own of the beatles. I knever owned any of the 2009. Remixes.

That skip phenomenon affects me as well. I have a vinyl Revolver that I played for many years but no longer do. There was a skip after the lines "She says that long ago" from "For No One" that repeated those lyrics over and over endlessly. Every time I play Revolver on CD I expect it to repeat this behavior. Cheers.

I bought the CDs as they were released in 1987-88, so I was a bit annoyed when the box set was released. Luckily EMI made the empty box available for purchase for those of us who had bought the CDs when they were originally released. From memory it was pretty inexpensive too.

Good overview, Brian. Wish I had picked up this box when it came out, rather than buying them individually. I'd like to find just the box, somewhere. I do the same as you with LIT: it goes before Abbey Road in my library as well. I actually stick a copy of Get back in there as well. I also put Yellow Submarine before The White Album. At that time in my life I wasn't too interested in the early Beatles though I grew up with them in the 60's. I Love the oldies again. Happy Record Store Day

I bought the '88 Pepper's CD on the day of release in a long box. It did not have a slip case. Maybe those came later?

1 yr old & Eleanor knows where the camera is already & the concept of ppl behind the camera lens - - just like Bob! Wonder if Eleanor will turn out a Beatles fan. I always got the impression Bob could take or leave The Beatles, with the possible exception of '3 Cool Cats.' UK, or the North of it anyway, says "Breadbin", same up-sliding lid - - but I never saw that box set here. Then again I was all-LPs in '88. 15:20 Yes, albums like REVOLVER are a self-contained world, what with the cover & back & the song narratives & the sequencing & whatever legends of that time are associated with it - - even just the mop-tops transitioning to wild longhair on the cover as the group got more unruly - - a cohesion lost in the fragmentation of atomised & immaterial streaming. Cohesion... fragmentatation...atomised...immaterial.... man I gotta break that sentence up.

Eleanor is such a beautiful name. When I (hopefully) have kids in the future, I plan on naming a girl either Prudence or Layla. One for Dear Prudence and the other is Layla by Derek and the Dominos

I bought mine the day it was released. It sits pride of place in my music room. There is a sticker on the rear of Please Please Me case saying AAD not ADD

I have most of the 80's cds but not the box - I do remember it being advertised though. Looks pretty cool! Do you have the EP CD box - those are some of the very best digital versions of the early mono tracks for sound quality...they jump out of the speakers

Cool video. 👍 I have that box. But i have to avoid that i replaced some 80’s cds that i didn’t much liked. I chose some cd versions that I préfère to put in this box 😉 However, in my boxset the White album is a 2 cd box format. Not the 2 separates cds that you showed on the video. Indeed there is a wider spot to insert in that album. So i think there are at least two versions of this bread box. A question : why the Rubber soul cover in your box is the american version ? Cheers

Eleanor after Eleanor Rigby ?? I recently.got the Beatles box st the long black box set.ebay i had to bid. Was highest bidder at $160..fingers crossed that it wasnt a fake. It wasnt. Great price its outrageous now..cheaper ones are the fakes .
