I recently joined an old man cover band, so I wanted to get a second bass amp, to back up my fender rumble 200 combo. I purchased a Warwick Gnome head, and a Gnome 10/8 cabinet. I then sold the rumble combo and bought a second Gnome head and cabinet. They sound great. The three bands of EQ have a nice swing. Plenty of bottom, mid and/or top, whatever you desire.

Can't begin to describe how good the Gnome gear is. I use the 280W amp and 10" and 12" speakers, depending on the venue size. Played at Sheffield Corp using a 1x12" cab and it was thunderous on stage. Other bands that night were using 1x15 + 4x10 setups, I just rock up with bass on my back, pedals and amp in one hand and cab in the other. The PA handles FOH sound, I use the Gnome across the stage basically as my own personal monitor (or so the rest of the band can hear it on smaller gigs). I do wish Warwick produced some combo versions though, just to save the hassle of wiring up and packing everything separately, especially on festival gigs, maybe that's something for the future. The new amp is due out soon (600W) plus new cabs - 1x15, 4x8 and 2x10. I bet they're gonna be glorious!

Having started out with 130W into 2×10 in the 90s, it was marginal in a rock band context - no headroom. I found 300W much more reliable. In theory, 130 to 300W (or 280W) is only about 4dB, you can look at it as 3dB plus headroom

Nice review. Nice sounding amp. 150-200 pricewise? At that price, I think I may get one!

10 M Ohm means 10 mega ohms, or 10 million ohms. Basically, a high input impedance so active basses don’t clip the input…. AB test it with the Trace ELF!

A high input impedance is more important for passive basses. 10MOhm is more than you need for a passive magnetic instrument but will also work for piezos. 200W and a discreet cab is ideal for a double bass player. What stops an active bass clipping is a pad, often -20dB, that is it reduces the input by 20dB.

I bought the standard 200w Gnome as a quiet practice amp....not so quiet..lol...i'm using the Gnome with an 8ohm 12" Ashdown bass cab, 130w, a tiny bit quieter...i use a Warwick, WA300 class A solid state bass amp head with Ashdown cabs live, when i can get to use them, their really well built, fantastic sounding amps that last years & can take a pounding playing live...the little Gnome is solid built & the best of similar style 200w class D tiny amps made by other bass amp makers... the big 1 is 280w bud not 300w but sounds just as loud....fantastic for the price, good review bud...
