I think it could have been a couple of tracks shorter and kept the concept tighter. For me it's an 8.5 but would have been a 9.5 if the second half was as strong as the first half. The bonus tracks are well worth the listen too, the rhymes are insane and one of the best bars of the album (body dysmorphia).

Em is at the highest level of lyricism. Anyone in hip hop history had ever touched, and he is in his 50s. Take that in. This project has been his best work since the 2000s, and I hope the slim shady character stays in the forefront. That's what people want from em. The intro to the album is bananas and was so nostalgic to hear that slim voice again.

@belak1551 rakim is definitely not even in the equation. He was dope for his time, but even then, G rap was miles ahead of him. Black thought is dope as well, but I still wouldn't put him on em's level. The triples and quadruples and patterns em gave us on this project are on another plane. Not to mention his ability to rap 10 bars and then go back to the first bar 3rd word and rhyme is again is next to genius and to make it all flow and sound cohesive is so hard and technical. Thought doesn't do patterns like that. Maybe a crooked eye or royce, but even then they both consider em the goat.

The fact you just said this is the first time Marshall has done the Shady vs Eminem concept shows me how much you actually listen to his music. I'd rather if people don't pretend and be honest, but in this case it just shows a lack of professionalism. First time Em did this concept was back in 2009 for Relapse, the track is called My Darling and is an absolutely epic masterpiece.

Many people misinterpret that line. He's always said being white was a bad thing for him trying to make it in rap until he was actually signed. Being white and signed in America at that point definitely helped him sell because it's easier to relate to someone that looks like you do. Some people take that line as 'I'm not actually that good at rap it's just because I'm white that I sold records', which is obviously not true and not what he meant by it. If Eminem was black he would be the undisputed GOAT of hiphop and would have nowhere near this many haters because their true issue with him is the fact he isn't black unfortunately.

I think theres a large em fanbase in this category and that still listen on CD as well. Good thing to note as there is likely a good % of streams not being counted from em fans/stans. I purchased the presale digital album 2x for support and separate bonus tracks even though I could have just ripped them after the drop. Extremely few artists I would do that for and em is that guy. If you grew up with em as a fan, if you were there to buy SSLP on cd near its release, if em was a part of your youth, you will understand and TDOSS will hit different. It's subjective for good reason. This was for the fan base and less so for the masses that may not really get it or feel it.

The Death of Slim Shady is musically a representation of the self fighting against “the shadow. The shadow in the self (a term coined by the psychiatrist Carl Jung) consists of repressed thoughts, feelings, desires and ambitions that lies within the unconscious mind. Manifesting those repressed parts of the shadow is called shadow integration. In literature, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde is great example that describes the shadow in psychology. Slim Shady has always been the shadow of Marshall Mathers.

Eminem is where he is because he chooses to evolve with what's happening around him and this world and you can hear it in his music, and that's what people of all ages can relate to.. other's expect a following because of who they were when they became big in the industry and chooses not to adapt, Em just found an incredible way to adapt

50 Cent's album and that song became what it became because it was mainstream and that's how it sold so well. It wasn't exclusive to one community.

Eminem may be the only rapper where I hear ppl say things like/ "oh he can rap, I just don't listen to him".... or "the bars are there... just not my thing" ... or my favorite "that white boy nice, but we ain't playing him in the hood" 😂... That man has influenced a whole generation of younger rappers.... white and black. That man created a whole word in Websters dictionary. ALWAYS respects the culture (more so than some rappers who don't look like him), always humble beyond reproach, minds his business by staying outta others. I could go on a diatribe about how they say he don't make ANY music of substance and pick apart some bars that perfectly explains his life and resonates with other people but I ain't. I think after he's gone or unfortunately dead is when ppl may really appreciate what he brought to the culture.
