Something I find weird when talking about the show is that nobody points out how absolutely goated Kawasaki is. Yeah, he’s a poor chef, and he almost cooked Kirby that one time, but not only did he stop himself, every episode where he holds some major role there after, the guy is actively helping Kirby with his frying pan, curry, and ice later in the series. The guy does more to help Kirby then I argue Fumu/Tiff does. Even in the case with the curry, where he was arguingly trying to “beat” Kirby, the second Kawasaki realizes Kirby is in actual danger, he immediately abandons his plans and goes for the frying pan. He only gives Kirby the curry as a last resort. The guy is a total legend in this show

The ‘Sheep Revolution’ episode is based on a film made by Sanrio, (The people behind Hello Kitty) Ringing Bell. It is about a sheep named Chirin. He wakes up to see his own mother dead on the floor because of a wolf that attacked her. He swears to kill the wolf one day, while also learning how to survive from him. He eventually kills off the wolf, while feeling guilty in the end since he killed off his father figure. I just kinda thought that was some cool trivia.

Out of anything this show could possibly throw at us, an episode about a meteor strike potentially wiping out the entire planet, & the townsfolk accepting their fate while sharing their last moments is pretty… Damn…. Also I do agree. Escargoon is definitely an underrated “villain’s sidekick” character. I love his odd but charming character design

I discovered the season 1 retrospective late but I wanted to mention that while the rogue demonbeast mentioned by Kabu in 'A Battle with Meta Knight/Kirby's Duel Role' is probably Kirby there are theories that suggest it was Meta Knight instead. Some evidence includes that the silhouette shown in the chessboard scene with Nightmare resembles maskless MK coupled with the fact the entity was carrying a sword. Although these colours are likely an artistic decision and this is the episode that introduces sword Kirby, it does seem strange that infant Kirby would put up a resistance against Nightmare through his own volition at that stage. Regardless, even if it wasn't the writers intent I find it fascinating that theory persists onto many Kirby fans headcanons with people even drawing parallels between Nightmare and MK's design and attack patterns within the games. It's a cool connection considering they both debuted in the same game and, to this day, lack any lore at all. Also thank you so much for making this detailed retrospective series, I feel the anime brought about some unique ideas that spawned an entirely seperate part of the fandom or help build upon/fill in gaps in the game lore and it's great to see it get recognition.

“Whispy Woods Falls in Love” grows doubly uncomfortable when you realize Lovely was essentially turned into a succubus. Makeup builds up on her face as she grows and she performs some seductive movements as she drains Whispy. The fact she leaves offspring after her death also lends some credence to the idea.

For what it's worth, that "Kirby does shrooms" episode was a reflection of a real controversy going on in Japan at the time. See, magic mushrooms were kind of a foreign thing that weren't well-known in Japan, so no laws had ever been passed regarding them and you could buy them in most herbal remedy stores. In the late 90s, with the advent of the internet, word started spreading fast. Japan is normally VERY strict about drugs, but since mushrooms weren't technically considered a drug, they fell into a weird grey area where you could still depict characters doing them on television. As you can imagine, there was a lot of debate over whether they SHOULD be banned. In 2002, the same year this episode aired, they did finally outlaw them.

In the first part of the meteor episode, I personally think the demon beast kinda made sense because in most other cases, dedede called a monster out of hatred or Jealousy for Kirby, but in this case, dedede calls it out of pure fear of Kirby, which I think kinda fleshes out dedede a little bit more. But yeah, it can be seen as unnecessary.

Can't wait for season 3 Even if at this point, Kirby right back at ya starts to feel dry a little bit because a lot of story plots are reused. But I do like that my favorite episode (61) will be in part 3. HAND ME A BAG OF THEM CHIPS!

The meteor episode was basically all of them accepting the inevitable end and wished to die with the ones they cherished the most. When you know death is imminent you feel a strange peace and a wish to not defy it in favor of a peaceful death. I've seen both takes of the episode and the anime one takes the cake but the 4kids one just struck hard like you knew you were about to die and there was nothing you could do about it. Thamk god fumu was there or it all would have ended!

So, the no copy ability gag from episode 12 actually takes on some new context when you consider that, starting with Planet Robobot, Gabone starts giving the Miasma ability. One thing I always loved about The Prediction 2 parter was the implications that Nightmare himself was the one responsible for the asteroid heading to popstar the Dub makes it even more obvious he was the one behind it it was also a Grim reminder that from that point onwards he was going to make sure Kirby was dead and would pull out all the stops to see it happen also kinda funny how Clean debuted a Few epusodes AFTER it was actually needed for the plot

No matter what, I think the Kirby Derby two-parter are my favorite episodes in KRBAY (maybe except for the evil Kirby one) and I always fondly remember wheel Kirby speeding through the race and the mayor ultimately winning. They were just such great episodes

Kirby vs masher is the best episode of the entire series

Just coming back from the season 3 video, and I'm excited to hear everyone's thoughts on this season as well. It definitely seems to have the most iconic episode (Cartoon Buffoon), as well as a pretty solid Knuckle Joe one. I'm most curious about these two, seeing as how they're so well regarded around here, and it would be interesting if this broke the mold (although I imagine that's not the case). I think this is the start of CS/NME Sales Guy gaining more prominence (if I remember Amusement Park right), but I'll have to revisit it myself to make sure. These videos definitely make me want to check out the series in full at some point. Pretty excited for the S4 review as well, but I'll save my predictions for those when we get there.

I did watch the Kirby anime but pretty much forgot every single episode and what happened in them. The one thing I remembered was imagery of a meteor closing in on Earth seemingly so slowly and ominously signaling the end of the world though. That traumatized me a lot as a kid. It wasn't until you started talking about the red star in the Mable episode part 1 that I remembered where that imagery came from.

I'm kind of surprised you didn't acknowledge the...really, REALLY odd suspension of disbelief in the garbage episode that Fumu and the others somehow don't know that aliens exist when Kirby and Meta Knight's entire existence completely shatters that idea, and that's not even getting into other things like the demon beasts themselves being off-world creatures, the galaxy soldiers, Princess Rona, etc. That in of itself makes it a bad episode to me

I always believed that kirby right back at ya was based off of Kirby Super Star or Kirby Nightmare In Dreamland but because a lot of story plots and characters are not even from the video games (and some aspects like superspicy curry) are not from certain games.
