Today I'm reviewing this 'artist quality' paint set.
They're really not that bad, but they fall down in the way that so many budget brands do (and in a couple of exciting new ways too).
If you've bought them, then they'll suit you fine - if you haven't... then perhaps don't use my affiliate links below and find something else better value for money.
Here is the blog I mentioned : www.kimcrick.c...
Paul Rubens got back to me and said in response to this blog that their colours are now 'basically free from translation errors' - I believe what they mean is that they took the feedback from the blog in board and made corrections.

The glitter WC paper is a special product that’s popular with card makers or other more decorative painters, I believe. It’s gotten excellent reviews. I do enjoy the Paul Rubens journal-sized paper blocks with hard covers that have 100% cotton paper, and that paper is excellent, even comparable to the top makers of paper. They are a bargain. I’m guessing Bao Hong, a Chinese company that makes excellent artist and student grade WC paper, is the brand used in those PR journals. I also enjoy painting with the PR paints, which I use for practice, experiments, sketching or smaller works. I enjoy the smoothness and clarity, and they are at least mostly lightfast. I also feel freer when the paint is more affordable. They’re enjoyable! For more large scale pieces I use Winsor Newton and Daniel Smith mostly, with Rosa Gallery and some Sennelier on sale, and finally Holbein for some special colors and for pieces that don’t need paint that moves a lot. I’ve spent many hours determining which pigments/paints fulfill which purposes, and yet I also paint with a quite limited palette that can change depending on the subject or design. Paul Rubens are a watercolor I have an affection for, as I do my favorite, but very expensive in the USA, Winsor and Newton. Thank you for your detailed review!

Great video! For me it's the first time I really get the difference between two qualities of paint. Thank you!

Thank you!!! finally, a real honest review of these. I really wish others would put supplies through the paces as you did, instead of just swatching and not truly comparing them to more substantial brands. I totally understand the cost may be better for paints such as these that fit in many budgets, but sometimes the struggle or questions about a companies product is not worth the creap price. I would rather have less colors of higher quality, but this is only my opinion and at the end of the day it's everyones choice 😊 Again wonderful video and huge thank you for all your knowledge and time 🙏

My pleasure, these are a bit too expensive to really really be considered budget paints, but they also aren't expensive. I think there are other options!

This was a very informative review/comparison. I’ve often wondered if I’m missing anything by not trying out the various Paul Rubens paints, but I think this illustrates why I’m happy with the paints I’m already using (primarily DS).

If you're using premium paints already you do not need to try these.

Meiliang watercolor paints are great for sketchbooks. And the tin is wonderful! But seriously! Why would anyone think these cheap brands would compare to professional supplies? Lindsay the frugal crafter (Lindsay Weirich) has done extensive comparisons of budget paints and is very honest too. Thanks, Toby❤ Tummy rubs, Betty🐾🐾

Not a brand I would use, thanks for the review. I've seen others using them and I guess they might be good for certain styles for sure, like botanical maybe?

Hi Toby! I have a suggestion for a video. Could you talk about the fear of making "bad" art and how to get past it?

The 'glittery' look may be the size and it's sitting on the surface rather than being internally sized. What did the script say about them. I bought a Paul Rubens Watercolor Book, which is in fact a block inside. (It was only £6 I think and came from Spain.) Being a block it means that you tear out the sheets so at the end, you don't have a book. The paper seems OK though, albeit I've only done one work on it so far. It makes me wonder if these are made for the US market, but then why is it all written up in Chinese? I think they could do with some good advice...

The script... If you can read Han characters then I'll post it out to you 🤣🤣 The information they provided is not useful to someone who only speaks English unfortunately.

On a silly note, I’m disappointed that the name of this brand has nothing to do with the talented man who played Pee Wee Herman. Probably for the best
