Great video Sam. I love the blue and grey livery. I remember these coming into service. Very iconic. But I would have loved to see one with Hornby on the side running through the countryside. What great advertising! Fantastic livery against the green landscape. But definitely a cheaper model. Definitely helped Hornby out in the 70s I think. Pre-Thomas. I powered both ends of my 125 it's the only way it would climb. Oscar

My 1st ever Loco was the original liveried intercity 125 set so mid 80`s. Still got it and it still runs to this day. ☺

Well Sam you had to review these eventually and you did a great job of it , I do like these with a little weathering on the bogies which usually makes them look much better . Cheers.......Peter .

Great video Sam and the coaches are a very good representation of the mk3 I started out with that set and added a few extra coaches which were the same quality as the ones in the set .

i have a virgin hst set but my one runs very badly : ( at least i have a virgin Class 47 and NSE Class 121 Bubblecar they run great : ) great vid sam also the virgin livery is one of my faves much better than the modern virgin livery

Nice HST you got there amd the colors are just beautiful. I like the diesel hig speed train. The caches reminds me about the X2 the super snail. The super snail was the slower of the x class of higspeed trains in Sweden in the 90ties. The X2 class was refurb and re classed to X 2000. 😊😊😊👍👍👍😊😊😊

Hello Sam The HORNBY HST livery has sadly been painted over, It was painted on to match the HORNBY liveried, Hornby HST model. I'm not sure why but I believe it was for a special event in 2006.

Nice video as always Sam. Love 125s. Only point on your blue/grey set is that it's not correct to run it with Mk2 coachesx. They really should only be Mk3s

yes they are mark three or mk3 for short and the ones you have are the scale length version in virgin trains livery as I also have a scale length Virgin mk3 coach and my other scale length mk3 stock are in fgw green or the 2007 purple wavy livery or are the old mk3 shorter length coaches in virgin, and BR intercity swallow grey, BR executive grey or br executive blue and grey (the 1970's version is executive 125 blue & grey) & my favourite HST is the Hornby & Virgin one also I wouldn't mind seeing more diesel locomotives they're my favourite but I have been on some nice ex-GWR steam hauled trains & I have a GWR airfix locomotive anyway nice video 😀😀😁😁😊😊😁😁

My intermittent 125 has tilt. I’m not sure if this is usual on inter city 125 but I think it is really cool!

The Virgin HST with the HORNBY logo on the side was sold to First Great Western. I went on it in April, saw it in August. It has been refurbished and fitted with the mtu Traction engine. I'm not sure if it will be repainted into GWR green and put on the end of a castle set or sold to XScotrail (I don't think it will be put into storage at Laira or Old Oak Common).

I'm actually getting a proper modern Hornby Virgin East Coast HST with TTS sound for my birthday, one of the reasons is because these run on my local mainline (My local line is a test track), I would've got the Hornby VTEC Class 91 but it has no lights and is pretty basic in terms of detail, also it has no sound...but the comparison of the HST in this video to the comparison of the modern "proper" one is just incredible...You should try and get your hands on one, well worth the money if you can get it for a good price

Dear sam. I have a virgin 225 in new livery. I also have a bachman voyager. 221 class. I have developed a short in the power unit. The moter will run IF i lift the non powered bogie off the track. Any thoughts. You rock. I have so enjoyed. My uk units both steam and modern vintage

Hi Sam do you have any spare straights if so how much because you have a very fast motor in your intercity locos and when you put it at full speed it derailled so I was just wondering if you could just make a long straight of just straight and nothing else to show us it's top speed

Not my favourite train kind, but my favourite livery is Blue & Grey. I didn't mind this very much, because I can tolerate a HST. By the way, what's that ugly Cock O' the North Steamy with 5 LNER Teak coaches doing in the siding? Watching or lurking? I'm very curious about it. It's got me fascinated. Of course, I'm a steam engine lover counting out Cock O' the North and the GWR County.

Sadly the Hornby Class 43 was given to FGW/GWR and is in GWR Livery which is quite sad actually

The red livery is so odd yet appealing to look at.

Hornby should really start doing these HST sets again. These were around £100 for 2locos and 2 coaches now you have to pay £250+ for 2 locos.

What’s cool is that is has the Hornby logo on the side. I dare say in real life, it sponsored Hornby.

There are few situations in which I would show any interest in non-steam locomotives but you managed to retain my interest (sort of - he says out of loyalty for steam).
