smackdown time between two grip accessories that do the same thing, but go about their business in totally different ways. Its cobra grips versus versa grips

While everything you've said regarding the construction of the grips is true, you've avoided the single most important detail. How the grip "grips" the bar. Once the Versa grip is locked on, it's simply not moving, rock solid. The cobra grip on the other hand slides all over the place. Also the pad on the cobra grip is MUCH thicker which totally removes any 'feel' of the bar. Cobra grips are made better, but versa grips work better.

I agree 💯. I’d like to add in the rust factor on the medal parts which iv had a pair of versa gripps for 6 years and other then normal wear and tear. I bought a pair of the schiek gripps & no exaggeration, they are covered in rust the first week iv owned & used them. Iv had them 3 months now and least to say not impressed at all, I am purchasing a new pair today as we speak in order to maximize my gym workouts. Iv not used cobra gripps but I have to say for the money & over consumption of padding along with the over all bulk of the gripp I don’t see me spending that kinda money on something that will take away from even knowing the bar is in my hands.

Facts cobra more conformable, but the versa gripp works better

the leather cobra grip may not be as sticky but I have the rubber version and they are every bit as "grippy" as the versa and much much more comfortable.

I have have my versa grip pros for 10 years. Never let me down until stolen. Just ordered my replacement. You should show these while lifting not just a table top review on what you think is comfort. The real test would be to lift.

Thank you for making this video. As a larger guy, I think I prefer the slimmer fit of the Versa Grips. The cobra ones would make me feel like I’m wearing mittens. I use the Versa Grips PRO several times a week, and they are very high quality. Never had an issue with the stitching coming loose or cutting into my skin. And they last forever. I’ve had my current pair for over three years and they still look and perform the same as they did in the beginning. They almost seem to get better after you break them in.

This was a good review. I would like to see an update of how they held out through time. I had the cobra grips and after about 1yr, the Velcro stopped working. The company that makes cobra grip makes an exact replica to the versa grips minus the tackiness. The material is some type of rubber just like the cobras (unless you buy the premium leather versions which I am told are a little slippery due to them being leather. The cobras in this video are the synthetic version and not the brown leather. I purchased the versa grip rip-off that is for sale by the makers of cobra grip because I find them online for $25. I’ve gone through two pairs now. In the 1st pair the grip started to tear after 7 months and in the second pair the Velcro gave out after a year. So that’s 3 pairs of grips that failed on me by this company. This weekend I swapped out the rt hand that the Velcro went out on with the rt hand from the old pair and noticed both grips have small tears in the rubber. I decided to finally spend the money and order the versa grips which will come in this week. Perhaps the Velcro will fail and the “rubber” may begin to tear after a year as well but we will see. I’ve given up on the company that makes the cobras/economy versa grips. Hopefully the versa wont tear or lose the Velcro after a yr. of use too. I use them 2x a week. Back day and deadlift day and I don’t use a lot of weight. 315 for 8x3 is what I top off at.

Had the versa grip xtreme, stitching didn’t last a year. It came off in 7 months of lifting. I would just go Pro, they’re just cheaper and still would fall apart alike the xtremes

If Versa grips cut into your wrist, you’re trying to make that happen. I’m on my third pair over 15 years and I’ve NEVER experienced that discomfort.

the leather ones are nicer for sure, but for outright functionality id say you can just go for the rubber ones

Rubber.. the leather feel nicer, but are useless if you ask me (I've had both - and gave away the leather). The rubber are quick and efficient. I have to make sure the grip is off before letting go of a weight because the rubber clings so well especially on handles with rubber that you will pull your socket out if you're not careful. Lol.

I have both. Versa grips are much better in their design and function. The Cobra Grips are very uncomfortable on the thumb metacarpals and they do not fit the hand very well. Versa grips are designed to be work lower and away from the wrist a bit so that you can have more wrist mobility and also do not risk harm to the metacarpals.

its been a while since i did this side-by-side, but for me the cobra's worked much better. Maybe something to do with handshape/size and preference

The amount of neoprene has no bearing on how much you sweat. in fact if one has less neoprene it will saturate fully much quicker than the other and need more frequent washing.

The Versa Grips look like something I could make in my basement. Considering their price and the fact that they have serious competition now, they should consider a redesign.

absolutely! the neopreen wrist cuffs make them very comfortable compared to regular straps

That's def your opinion on the look. The brown cobra is cheesy AF looking. And the grip isn't sticky so the grip and bite on it is far superior

@@turtlepowersf It’s obvious to go with the one that’s more inexpensive. But if that’s not the issue… versa gripp pro is the one. I have four different brands & they essentially function congruently. It all depends on what you’re looking for in them. Comfort basis Cobra. Lock in securely and better feel for the bar versa.

From the video, it's obvious that the Versa has a larger fingers area coverage, despite you trying to conceal it. lack of 100% honesty strips off or discredits trust

easy there with the accusations, im not concealing anything here. The hourglass (cobra) shape of the cobra's makes for a bigger top part where the fingertips go, buit obviously a slimmer part as you go further down towards the wrist band. The versa's have a pretty straight shape which i suppose makes the overal surface area bigger, but not specifically at the fingertips. Side by side you can see that the cobra's are slightly wider at the tip than the versa's, but there is not THAT much in it

3x Mr. Olympia wears versa grips for a reason. Cobra grips are way too bulky.

im pretty sure pro bodybuilders wear whatever sponsor they are associated with at any given time. BUT the cobra's are indeed quite a bit bulkier than the versa's

I was just noticing that as the biggest difference. I think most people would think that a larger pad with more coverage would provide a better grip, but I'm thinking that the smaller pad will force my hand tight to the bar without unnecessary overlap.
