Nightcap is the same....and I love it!

The absolute archetype in the quality English blend canon. Nightcap is superb but more of an evening treat and my enjoyment of the (admittedly excellent) 965 can be - for some reason - dependent on which pipe I'm using. Standard Mixture always hits the spot.

I have to take a break on these reviews, my shopping cart keeps on growing.

It's so amazing to watch this video smoking the same tobbaco as you. For me as a begginer-to-intermediate-non-every-day-smoker demanded a period to get used to latakia. My first non-aromatic was Aperitff and it is a latakia uppercut direct to the nose. So, i gave a chance but stil wasn't my thing. A month after i bought this precious tobbaco blend under Dunhill flag and latakia became a diferent thing to me... in some way, brings a misterious aspect. I still have a fill pack of this same tobbaco and time just enhance everthing. It's this that is keeping me well in this lockdown experience...

Great review! I’m glad they’re back. I’ve got to try a more traditional/stronger English blend. So far I’ve only had EMP & Squadron Leader...I enjoy both!

I absolutely love this blend I have several Dunhill tins in my cellar that I am going to let age even a few tins labeled Standard Mixture Medium before they took the medium off the label. Trying the Peterson blend I found it was pretty much the same which I am very happy about.

Nice. I actually have two dunhills, two standard mixture and two medium mixtures, still in my cellar just waiting to see when I can open them and enjoy them. Thinking of getting a reasonable priced dunhill pipe just so I can enjoy them the right way. Love these tobacco reviews and revisiting. Wife sometimes likes watching them with me and say "oh you should try that blend or that one, and see if you like them too".

I cellared a goodly number of the Dunhill Standard Mixture tins based on Bradley’s first review KZfaq video. I’m happy that pipers can buy these tins again because it’s a very enjoyable blend. Great video Bradley!

I was in a corner shop in Glasgow recently and I noticed that they had a dusty tin of the Dunhill Standard Mixture (along with some newer Peterson rebranded tins). I bought the Dunhill and have put it away to cellar.

Yea, I just finished a tin of the Peterson stuff. I haven't smoked in in probably 10 years. Yesterday, I just opened a tin of Nightcap and so far, I miss the Standard.. Nightcap and 965 were always my go to Dunhill blends. I'm going to have to add this to the next order; and keep it in the rotation. I really enjoyed it!

London Mixture was also primarily Turkish/Macedonian and Latakia with a smaller proportion of Virginia. It and to a slightly lesser extent, Durbar, were my favorite Dunhill blends. So naturally, neither one are being made anymore haha. At least we have Westminster by Pease which is pretty much a dead on balls accurate copy of London Mixture. I think London Mixture was pretty much the Dunhill version of Balkan Sobranie, but maybe with different Orientals. I think it uses Basma

Hey bradley ! Do you know if all those rebranded beloved dunhill/ peterson blends are going to be available in bulks at one point or another as they formerly used to be ? ( thinking about the mixtures, .. nightcap , emp... )

You gotta revisit old gowrie and do reviews on the rest of the rattray stable already (dark fragrant, marlin flake, etc). I love their tobaccos

Smoked a tin of this in the summer, for me it had a sort of ketchup smell, and a sort of pleasant sour taste. The tin had some years on it, might explain why I can see little correlation between my experience and your review on this blend :)

May i ask .. Am new and don't know about how long one tin tobacco last.. Or how many times you can use it before the tin end !

I usually take a really hard dry puff through a napkin or shirt and i never get tobacco in my mouth because of that!

It’s the difference between like a medium rare filet with garlic Parmesan whipped potatoes and a basic hamburger steak with basic mashed potatoes (I’m from Texas so I think of all things in terms of steak!). Fine dining vs comfort chuck wagon food.

Smoking Standard right now. A good one when I want something a little more intense than Presbytarian.

I dont know why people said Nightcap is a strong latakia, for me Nightcap is Strong English blend. Strong latakia is Pirate Kake, GLP Abingdon an all the latakia version in GLP. Anyway, nice review I saw the old review and because of that I buy 2 tins Standard Mixtureand I like it.

Bradley.... what is your opinion comparing Presbyterian and Standard mixture? You seemed to enjoy both. Can you expound on them in a head to head fashion?

I've only been smoking pipes for a few months, and was excited to try this. Both in the tin and while ignited, the only thing I can think of is "burning inner-tube." I'm keeping it jarred to see if it'll change with time, but if this is the quintessential English, then I guess I don't like English 😞

Can someone compare this tin vs Early Morning Pipe? I’ve had the latter but not the former.

Just got a Dunhill Standard Mixture at my B&M. Paid NYS tax markup but I felt it was worth it because it was the old Dunhill. I’ll still be smoking it but might cellar it or buy more to save with the Dunhill name. Is it worth it?

I tried this once, but I smelled that "cigarette" aroma. I can't stand that smell. What tobacco gives off that aroma? I love latakia! Maybe I need to try 965 and Nightcap.

I think you’re trying to liken Standard mixture to something like Corn Flakes. Simple but scratches an itch.
