One great thing about using filters is that depending on your view template setup, you can control individual objects or types of objects independent of the model V/G settings. So if you have some master view template that is applied to all views that strictly controls model V/G settings, using filters can help quickly change view settings without having to go in and recreate and MANAGE a ton of new view templates. What I use this for in MEP is quickly applying an 'all black' color setup for my pipes/ducts/conduit, fixtures, and equipment to be able to print views how I want, but still be able to use system properties to control colors for modeling effectively. Also, on the VG hierarchy pyramid, I want to say that filters are higher priority than model V/G settings, so any filters should trump the settings say from a view template. I have slowly been converting my coworkers from using 18 trillion view templates to just a couple and controlling links as much as possible by host, then using filters to fine-tune the final product. The less we have to open that VG dialog, the better.

The other method I've used and it works well is to make the glass of the fish tank as a separated nested shared family. Then in the family, you use a filter to choose the fish tank glass and then you can apply the transparency while the water won't be affected. This works well with other components like window, door, curtain wall and custom family with glass.

Hey wondering if i can ask a question as I'm looking at pcs for my wife to get her interior design business started with revit. I'd love to email you but basic specs are i9-13900kf, liquid cooling, rtx 4070 12gb, 32gb ddr5, 1tb gen 4 nvme ssd, and 3tb hdd. Long story short i was told over the weekend that i shouldn't get the 4070 as it may lag with revit but rather should get an amd radeon card. Would you agree with this statement?
