On the topic on pornography I think it's important to know that pornography isn't only found in porn, meaning graphic sex scenes with nudity isn't only found in what is widely accepted and known to be porn like things found on xxx networks like playboy, vivid, etc, and also porn sites. Pornography can be found in many of the popular shows many people in general (including many Christians) watch on netflix, hbo, showtime, cinemax whatever. 50 shades of Grey is a perfect example, but (50 shades is kind of obvious or should be obvious) but I like how Game of Thrones was mentioned (though briefly, a second actually) because G.O.T and MANY other shows have sex scenes that can rival any soft porn or straight up porn. We can actually try and justify ourselves by saying hey we don't watch porn (referring to obvious porn) but still be enjoying shows with explicit sex scenes with nudity, in some cases full frontal nudity. Great discussion. I really enjoy panel discussions.

You said something profound. The "obvious" we think point us within the xxx rated bur you are right. These shows that has explicit serial content of a movie is porn.

It's HARD finding a Christian counselor! One that has their own walk with Christ, is appropriately certified in the profession, and counsels from a biblical perspective! There is such a need in the body of Christ, IMO.

I just wanted to share that there is a Christian counselor referral list available through Focus on the Family. I recently found a PhD psychologist that is also a believer. They have a searchable database available based on city. Hope this helps someone.

Thank you so much for sharing this. I had saved it a long time ago and just now came across it again, I have been praying to God to help me come closer to Him, I didnt know how to put into words on how to ask Him to give me a teachable spirit and this is a strong answer to my prayers. I thank God for this ministry!

When I cried out to God and ended up asking out of pain and suffering and probably a little anger, hurt and frustration...where were you god?! What happened?. YOU JUST forget about me...turn the other check or something letting him wake me up by smacking me with the thing in his pants I woke up after the 2nd thump of his skin hitting my forehead. Okay well where were you God? You left me by myself...I prayed sp hard. And t that's when our father said to me no daughter I was right there the whole time holding you cradling you in my arms rocking you back and forth, rubbing your back wiping the tears from your eyes holding your hand trying to soothe your pain and help you through when you can no longer continue how do you think you are still here after all these near-death experiences...you are a miracle! You will do great things as long as you put God 1st.

Thank you for this I have been sexualy abused since I was a little girlof 6 till I was 45. I want you to know God heals. I'm 60 now it still hurts my heart truthfully. But with God's true love for me, great counseling and great godly women I'm at peace not that it doesn't make me cry but it doesn't take me over and control me anymore may the Lord restore us all unto him beautiful and pure as he designed us.

I'm glad the Christian community can finally acknowledge that WOMEN are affected by sexual problems and it's not just a mans problem. So many women are ashamed because society says it's normal for men to fight this but not normal for women. Both men and women are sexual so why should we think women don't struggle?

Calling out pornography is great, but aren't we still falling short of truly calling out the problem? After all, many women have no interest in watching/reading sex scenes but are, instead, addicted to "romance." Yet the romance serves the same basic function as the porn. Both are used as substitutes for true intimacy and true relationships. So, yes, GOT and 50 Shades are bad, but even PG-rated romcoms are just "kosher" versions of the same thing. Just because the PG format isn't sexual doesn't mean it doesn't destroy intimacy and distort God's design in the same manner.

Penelope Twain Im not understanding that connection between porn in its various forms being a distortion of Gods design being so sacred and the genre or topic of romance. Is it the unattainable expectation between people in real life as opposed to say a relationship like in The Notebook?

not really the same. one is about intimate emotional connection with another human being, the other is about using a person as an impersonal thing for personal gratification. very different to me

As someone who has personally struggled with an addiction to romance, I can tell you that it actually is the same thing, even if we don't recognize it as such. My desire for romance is completely self-focused. And I would get my personal gratification for that "lust of the flesh" by watching someone else experience it (because I longed for it but it was completely unavailable to me in my relationship). Which means I was exploiting those movie relationships for my own gratification. That's no different than porn. I was not having any intimate connection to the actors in the romantic movies, and worse still, it was damaging my ability to experience true intimacy with my aromantic spouse because it fed my self-absorbed desire for romance and kept me falsely convinced that I was missing something vital in our relationship by not having it. It was all about filling a personal desire inside of me. So the romantic movies just fed my false view that I could never experience true intimacy with my husband without the romance that we were missing. My other half has no need for romance, no desire for romance, and no interest in romance. Romance is something I alone want in the relationship. But romance isn't synonymous with intimacy, like we lead ourselves to believe. Intimacy actually exists completely separately from romance. Intimacy isn't even dependant upon romance. But romance all-too-frequently ends up taking the place of true intimacy. We look at it as if it is the end goal. And that's why so many relationships fizzle and die. They are based only on the romance. So when that fades, so does the relationship. Because true intimacy never existed. It was just a cheap facade. We end up spending our time pursuing romance (and justifying that pursuit), and miss the fact that we're actually just caught up in the same trap as those who are addicted to porn. We are still missing true intimacy because we are filling that void with a cheap knock-off. Porn or PG is irrelevant. It's still a cheap substitute for actual intimacy.

@@penelopetwain8332 I think desiring romance in your relationship, counter to how your husbands default is, is something that he ought to attempt to meet to a realistic degree, just as much as a sexuality would be(so much so that it doesn’t become an idol). I am a verbal person, that is how I express and receive love, my partner is not, they are acts based, however they make attempts to verbally express fondness for me in order to make me feel loved in a way I best feel loved. That’s why we ought to die to the flesh daily for our spouse and be selfless in a relationship. If you desire romance, your husband ought to put some attempts forward even if it isn’t the same as a movie. That’s how you feel loved. Men, typically need to feel needed(and useful), women typically want to feel desired and so often that is made to seem weak or not on the same level, but they desire to feel desired, that’s why God asked for women to respect their husband and for husbands to love and lay down their life for their wife.
