In Appalachia, those were known as a 'salamander'. The first person out in the morning would carry it to the 'outhouse' and leave it there. The last person out would bring it back.

While my parents were building our house, we lived in a barn/garage on the property and we used a wood burning stove and a kerosene heater exactly like this one to heat the place. Luckily, we lived in rural Florida, so it never got too terribly cold.

We were stationed in England in the 60s and fell in love with these little gems. We had a 75 Imperial gallon tank in the back garden filled with Pink Parrafin.

grand ma and grandpa had 1 of these and grandma used to put a teapot on top while she was knitting .
