This plant would do well in surface greenhouses on the Martian surface. No need to go underground! This will be great for converting CO2 to oxygen.

I believe the Chinese scientists are planning to test if lichen could be introduced to Mars, and NOT just moss by itself. Moss alone has lower chance of viability in a harsh environment.
