Michelin Road 6 Tires: rvz.la/3uTMbb3
Michelin have dropped the pilot from the Michelin Road 6 Tires but when you take these to the track, you’ll still feel like you’re flying. With another evolution of the Michelin Road series of tires, Michelin continues to find more life and more grip in both dry and wet conditions than previous versions. For riders that demand a long lasting tire that can make you feel like a hero on the track or the twisty back roads, there is no other option.

I would LOVE for you guys to have Zach and Arie test this tire, against the next step up in sport tires, like the famed S22, to really see just how far you can push this road 6. I can’t find any comparisons between a more touring oriented tire like this and a tire your typical aggressive sport rider with occasional track days type rider would gravitate to, like the S22. Just how far have these sport touring tires come? Let’s get a vid on it!

@@StarFox31 From personal experience there is barely anything between the S22s and the Road 5s, besides the S22 having a more aggressive profile (but the road 5s are very aggressive for sport touring tyres too) there is no upside to the S22s on the street, none at all. At the track, the difference is still minimal, Road 5s are a bit easier to overheat than the S22s but you'd be hard pressed to find a fault with them unless you're Marc Marquez, and then ofc lest we forget about the 2-3x longer life of the Road 5s

The road 5s came on my Trident 660. Absolutely amazed by the performance in the rain. I rode through an absolute frog drowner of a storm with water rushing across the highway and they cut through it with no problems. I will 100% continue to put these on my bikes in the future.

I get them on Yamaha MT 07 2022 also and i did already 20k kilometers and i didn’t spend 1/3 of tire. I road them on highway and twisty roads, rain , motorway and other…Also doing some roll on spins and slides rear tire for fun in urban areas. They doing well and i will buy 6’s because you can trust the tire for sure.

Even my power 5's in the rain on my 636 are phenomenal on crappy Florida roads. Only tire I've ever felt comfortable on in the rain in over 10 years and over 80,000 miles on 2 wheels.

I’ve run Pilot Power 3’s for the last nine years…Don’t do big mileage. Been caught out in rain more than a few times including a mountain hail storm and never worried about the wet traction. Need new tires this year, aging out not wear, and I think the Power 5’s will work for me and my occasional wet ride home.

Got a little over 8,000 miles from a pair of Road 5s on my Triumph Speed Twin. A lot of that was on the freeway; when I replaced them, they had tons of meat left on the outside edges, but the center was worn past the wear bars. They never lost traction once. On my second set now, and I know I'll be moving to a pair of Road 6 once these have worn out in a year or two.

I doubt that. Maybe they will make a tyre that can do that but it will never have maximum traction, part of having high traction is the high friction and rubber you leave behind that sticks to the road. Honestly they can with present technology make a tyre that will outlast the life of a motorcycle however it will have the grip of a 1960's tyre which is nowhere good enough for high performance motorcycles of today's era. If you want a long lasting tyre honestly some of the cheap Chinese tyres last the longest however the grip on any of those is sometines borderline and other times flat out dangerous.

I have Road 5s on my 09 Speed Triple and 04 V-Strom 1K. Very different bikes, but...these tires transformed both bikes. Great traction accelerating, stopping and cornering regardless of the conditions, and they are wearing incredibly well. A new bike is coming in 22 - probably S1000GT - and I'm already planning on putting 6s on it after a couple thousand miles. Very high trust factor for me. Thanks for the initial review!

Tiger 1200, I have had the Road 5 both the GT and the Trail... Both lasted 10,000 miles...and they were done. I ride occasionally with a pillion and do muti-thousand mile fully loaded trips a couple of times per year. So expecting more than that on a heavier bike is not realistic. On a lighter bike, maybe so. Great grip in both dry and wet conditions. Love the tires.

@@cliff8675 I've had Battlax (worst tire ever had on a bike), Power 5s, Pilot Power 2CT, and currently running Road 5's, w/the Road 6 going on my bike next Monday. Out of them all, the Road 5's are hands down, the best in all situations. Riding from Maine, to South Carolina and Back, getting caught in a couple extremely harsh rain storms, and held constant highway speeds of roughly 85mph without a worry in the world. From the Tail of the Dragon, to New Hampshire Kancamagus highway, to just screaming down the Northern Maine Highways at 200mph, they've taken everything I've given them, and not once made me feel uneasy. Was extremely hesitant doing w/the Road 6, as the 5's have been amazing, but hey, they say it's better all around, so I took their word for it and ordered them, and now excited for my Trip to Florida, over to Texas and back to Maine in June. For the record, 14,000 miles on the Current Road 5's, and could easily finish out the summer on them if I wanted with how much tread is left on them. No other tire has gotten me over 6k miles on my ZX14R, so with that alone, I'm extremely impressed.

After 38000km (nearly 24000 miles) the Road 5's on my 2013 Honda NC700D Integra finally need replacement. (The bike with its panniers weighs about 238kg.) I have owned a multitude of cars over the last 45 years, and only once I made the mistake of buying non-Michelin tires for them. I quickly learned my lesson and never did it again. Same for my motorcycle. After the OEM Metzlers wore out, I bought Pirellis, and after 200 KM, the handling was so compromised that I threw them away for a set of Michelins, and over the last 20 years have not deviated. When you have experienced the best, it is hard to like anything else.

I keep very detailed tire mileage records and, when I removed the V's, my projection was for a total of 15,000 miles. Pretty good but I thought it should have been slightly higher for such a light bike. But, that was still 2,000 miles more than for my Pirelli Angel GT II's and for the Dunlop Roadsmart IV's. The 5 GT tire literally transformed my FJR 1300 from a bike I intended to sell (as I didn’t trust the handling with the Pirelli Angel GT it came with used) to I bike I really trust and totally enjoy. Was stunningly impressed! The Pirellis would “tram line” (follow the tar/ gravel grooves) on the chip seal secondary roads we have in Eastern WA. Can’t wait to try the 6. My 5s have 6K miles and still look great. I’m guessing I’ll get another 3-5 K before they’re all done.

@@theenzoferrari458 I'm an experienced rider racer mechanic, and I trail brake a lot. I experimented with various pressures per Dave Moss tuning if ya know who he is. Steering head bearings swing arm bearings are good. Suspensions tight n properly adjusted. It obviously was the tires. It's a heavy bike that thats hard on front tires and encourages aggressive riding.

Hi Mark, Would you put a Road 6 or an Angel GT II on my VFR 800? Back in Perth Australia I'm getting much more summer weather than Spokane! I have Pirelli Diablo Rosso III on my old CBR 900RR and they stick to the black top like wet toffee to carpet!

Mainly I'm on country whindy roads .. I have the road 2 on my gxxr 600 and the have lasted longer than 2 of my previous Dunlops.. so if they are good as they say..I think it will be worth the 450

I was advised, by Michelin (at Scottish motorcycle show) to fit R5GT to my K1300R, after 800 miles it looked like pin pricks, (through to the carcass) at the bottom of the large Sipps. Michelin Technical services advise that it should use the standard R5 not the GT version, even though it is a heavy/powerful bike. Please check, preferably with Michelin Technical Services, that the GT is the correct/most appropriate tyre for your bike.

Id like to see you compare them to Roadtec 01s. I bet they are both fine tires. My approach is I can get used to any good tire and once dialed in I dont like to change. Old guys are like that.

What would be interesting is if Michelin actually told you which bikes or weight is needed for you to move from the standard tire to the GT version.
@lau5067
@lau5067 2 жыл бұрын
I tried to find some sort of guideline for the weight/when to equip the GT version but couldn't find anything. However, on the Michelin website it lists the available sizes of the Road 6 and Road 6 GT. So I suppose if the GT doesn't fit your bike, there's the answer - although not particularly satisfying.

@@lau5067 I had hoped to use the tire load index to figure this out myself, but the standard tires have about the same load indexes of the GT. So no real help there either.

I’m debating whether to use sport touring tires on my sport nakeds. I have a Concours14 and an ST1300 that get the majority of the miles. My Buell and Z1000 end up having old tires that look like new. Living in Iowa, I certainly don’t need sport tires.

I'd love to have a RevZilla counterpart in my country. Great review, I came here after the video about the best tires 2023. Now, I've noticed these tires have something like my Metzeler Roadtec 01, namely, several dashes near the edge of the tread on the rear tire, reoccurring periodically. What is the purpose of those?

If you could please show more angles of the side of the tires so we can see the whole tire rather than mostly the treads, I think that would be really helpful. I was interested to see the rotation arrows, but it was very difficult to see. Thanks for the review though.

Road 5 CTs. I just got 19K miles down to the cord on a 5 CT on my rear on a Concours in 8 months of FL heat. The front looks almost new. I ride 42 psi cold. Finally someone (Michelin) is making tires that grip and last! For the disbelievers, I don't sell tires. I just ride them.

I have run several tires and have a history with Michelin going all the way back to the Macadams (precursor to the Pilot Road and the Road). I have always run my tire pressure more towards grip and performance than mileage. The Road 3 were better rain tires than the Pilot Road 2 but had massive cupping issues. The 4 was slightly better and the new tread pattern on the 5 seas better again. However, they all still cupped. With eh Road 6 Micheline has finally separate the large rain channels from the small one and it has made a big difference. The 6 is not only better handling but I am seeing better mileage as well. In my ZX14 and Bandit 1250 I was lucky to see mileage over 10K (more like 8K kms on the ZX14). The new 6 is much better, I am predicting about 12-14K on my Bandit but as I am only half way through, things could change. The one thing that all michelins had was they were good right up to the end. I've had other tires that became very sloppy and slick near the end so the last 1000kms were sketchy at best. Great tire. My canyon bike (nicely set up VTR1000) has power 5s which will be replaced by Road 6 as well. I tried a couple of set of the Power 5 to see if they would be any better (stickier) and the Road 6 are just as capable n the road. Plus the Road 6 will last a lot longer.
