Part 8: • Rex Chapman on Getting...
Part 6: • Rex Chapman on Signing...
Part 1: • Former NBA Player Rex ...
--------
Former NBA player Rex Chapman discussed his career, including his playing years with the Hornets and the Heat, as well as his interaction with various teams and players. He noted how painful it was to be traded but saw it as an opportunity to move to an established NBA franchise. However, injuries constantly plagued him, including when he came down on Dennis Rodman's foot, severely dislocating his ankle, which required surgery. He also signed as a free agent with the Phoenix Suns, where he eventually broke a playoff record by making nine three-point shots in one game, a record that lasted for 20 years. The clip culminated in Chapman discussing his groundbreaking endorsement deal with AND1 and how the shoes may have contributed to his foot injuries and resulting opioid addiction.

The first AND1 shoes I had were the blue/white colorway worn by Rex and Darren Armsrong. People were stopping in their cars asking “what are those? where did you get those from? whose shoes are these?” My second pair were the red/white colorway worn by Larry Hughes. I still want both pair till this day, but they have to be the OG-1999 models.

I remember his injury very well, and had experienced the same thing with a dislocated ankle. Had a 44" vert and could jump out of the gym.. and one day in a Game I came down on Someone's foot and my ankle was turned sideways. I grabbed it and it popped back in place but couldn't get up. Then started to freak out after they took my shoe off and I saw the blood coming through my sock. Ended up getting 7 stitches on the outside, 4 on the side, and 30 yrs and two ankle surgeries later, I have about 10% strength in that ankle. But no, I never used or got hooked on a single drug in my life.

AND1 T-shirts was the only thing selling from teenagers to young men. After that nothing was selling off the shelves,but The only thing that went Platinum was The AND1 Mixtapes. Those tapes were so crazy that bootleggers was selling out, and the only way you could get the mixtapes was you had to buy a pair of sneakers in order to get the tapes smh❗️Then eventually people found a way to just get the mixtapes from employees who worked there for a price or off gp

A made basket on a foul call
@edtechspecialist
@edtechspecialist 2 ай бұрын
The term "And 1" is based on a scenario in which you make a bucket, get fouled, and then you get one free throw because you were fouled on a made basket. If you had missed the basket and were fouled, you would have gotten two free throws if it was a 2-pointer. When you get fouled on a made basket, "And 1" refers to that extra free throw, so a 2-point basket potentially becomes a 3-point play. A company named itself after that phrase, first selling And 1 mixtapes of the traveling And 1 semi-pros in the 90s. They eventually sold apparel, including shoes, and were trying to make inroads into the NBA. Rex just so happened to be their first client.

You mention something that can be missed by anyone but in today's environment is important to notice. Can you please share a few of the signs that you noticed and possibly a few that one should also consider? With the massive increase of drugs in the US, these things might save a loved one. I have no thought on if Rex is using, although if he is, this might help those close to him, but most importantly this might help others. Thank you
@bookaufman9643

@@ronharvey8442 thank you for the kind of compliment but I haven't seen this interview in a while now and I don't remember the things that I saw that made me feel that things might not be going as well as we would hope. Sometimes it's one of those you know it when you see it kind of things. It can be very difficult to describe and sometimes even a long time addict like myself can be wrong because there's an extenuating circumstance that I may be unaware of. If I get a chance I'll watch the video again and come back and comment. I hope I said initially that there was certainly a chance that I was incorrect but I wouldn't have posted if I didn't think that something was not quite what it should be. I remember a few years ago seeing an interview with a former football player and I knew from the jump that the guy was extremely fucked up. A few days later the guy ended up in a rehab and proved me right but I took no credit nor did I have any enthusiasm for having been right. Drug addiction is awful and and very widespread. The drug addiction problem is far from new because people have been getting high since the beginning of time but even in the last 150 years or so the American drug addiction rate has been enormous. I've seen articles that talk about American addiction in the twenties and thirties and it was just as bad back then but it wasn't publicized. Some basic things that you would want to look for in your personal life would be inconsistent behavior or emotional state. A lack of reliability even in important situations. Hidden financial instability or problems. I think another one that's harder to describe but possibly easier to see is just sketchy physical behavior. This is just all off the top of my head but those three or four things should have you worrying about a friend or family member especially if these behaviors are completely out of character. A drug addict changes and will slowly become very different from the person you once knew and if that occurs then that's a pretty good way of determining that there may be a drug problem involved.
