The volcano in Fagradalsfjall’s volcanic system is always changing. Now the lava fountain is different, and it’s pushing out a huge lava waterfall. The lava field gets bigger everyday and it’s just a matter of time until it flows over the hiking path. It has been confirmed that the volcano’s volume of lava is now twice the size than when it started.

Ok for Americans the volcano is 652 feet above ground tall and 56 feet deep under the lava. That's just ... wow. I can't believe it's already taller than the hill that got blocked off. I wonder how much taller it's going to get and if it even can cover the hills around it only because it's flowing downhill. Will be fascinating to watch it happen though.

@@eastwind6820 there are shield volcanoes in SW Washington State east of the Cascades. They belong to the Hotspot that is currently under Yellowstone. @@eastwind6820 yes those are stratovolcanos, but I’m speaking about those in the Boring Volcanic Field, Indian Heaven Volcanic field, and the Marble Mountain-Trout Creek Hill volcanic field. Big Lava Bed in the Gifford Pinchot national forest is the most recent cinder cove that was active ~8000 years ago. Trees still barely grow there. I spend a lot of time up in those woods. Interesting how the volcanoes opening is narrowing. Always thought that the area that allows the magma to escape to the side will be blocked off making it more like the traditional looking stratovolcano. Find it hard to see the crater becoming completely blocked as the magma needs somewhere to escape. Just fascinating to view all this. Many thanks to our intrepid reporter Valur, from Kris.🇦🇺

It's all about pressure. The fact the magma has to rise higher to the lip means more pressure is needed (and given), which is about 4 bars per 10 meters given the density of the lava. This could also open up old vents and/or completely new ones.

@@paulmichaelfreedman8334 So, when there isn't enough gaseous explosions occurring underneath the volcano to clear all the magma, it can possibly stop erupting and release through other vents? The age of the lava coming out now, is from a much deeper source from the subduction zone deep down. The calcium rich lava, shown in white/gray I'm told is from millions-year old sea bed rich in crustaceans.
@nodisalsi

I've read this too: that the crust of the "Iapetus Ocean" was subducted under landmasses that would join up as "Euramerica", which was then separated by the Atlantic Ocean. It's between 600Million and 400Million years old and is mixed up with mantle plume driving this issue.

A couple of weeks ago I asked Dr Fox 2000 if the volcano would build a wall around itself and block the view of the fountaining. He said no because there were several openings that the lava was flowing through and that the walls were thin and would keep breaking out new openings. Oh well. That surely was wrong. So glad to have a drone view of the inside because it's been intriguing seeing the lavafall overspill one side with some fountaining on the other side. I've been very curious to see what that surface looks like

The different colors of lava flows at the start are caused by different modes of flow by the same type of lava. Large turbulent flows typically produce a'a flows that are blocky and rough. Smaller trickling flows produce pahoehoe flows, which have smoother and shinier surfaces. The lava starts as pahoehoe but can quickly turns into a'a flows when they get turbulent down slopes, also the reverse doesn't happen.

When that unexpected last eruption occurred, I had lost track of the volcano. So I was surprised when that mountain over your shoulder was actually the volcano! It's huge.

It'd be neat if somebody brought cameras that showed the thermal views as well as the regular video.

The word for wall or barrier may be ‘dam’. Your English is fine. Visited Reykjavik several years ago. Love lett lopi or plotulopi. Volcanos, wool. Seafood. Perfect place.

We have lava tubes in the US. Northern California and Southern Oregon has multitudes of them you can explore. But nothing compares to watching this live.

@@6nferno - I was astonished at how close these people were observing!!! I did not think that one can in any way predict what might happen at any given time! How could they not know that the wall might not fail right in front of them???
