Rezball: The Hottest Sport in Nebraska’s Cold Winter

Winnebago, Nebraska, is a small town of just 1,500 or so residents. Located in the northeastern corner of the state, Winnebago is not a tourist hot spot. But when it’s cold outside, the town does heat up-thanks to the Winnebago High School basketball team. Lead by head coach Jeffrey Berridge and star senior guard D’von LaPointe, the Winnebago Indians have found success through their “rezball” style of play. The term rezball originates from Native American reservations-where basketball generally consists of quick transitions, plenty of running and assertive defense. But in Winnebago, rezball is more than just a style of play-it’s a winning tradition.

This is Class C-1, I went to Omaha central and Omaha Burke. Class A basketball is different than class C. Class A is the best basketball in the State.

As someone else from Nebraska, I can confirm this is true. Some sports I don't give a care for, others I like, but there are a lot of other aspects that Nebraskans enjoy other than eating corn and drinking a lot.

im native and i lived out in california and i've played basketball with those guys. pretty much if its half court its more challenging as we rely on playing fast. Going half court plays into other teams systems on hard nose aggressive D. Full court though its who ever wants it more as our fast past vs the aggressive D makes for barn burners . Look to a creighton vs Providence game in the big East. (Creighton is from Nebraska and plays a fast pace rezball like system ) providence from the east plays that hard nose D

George Marks dude it’s fuckin cold in the winter. Got to -20 while I lived there a few times. I live in Colorado now, we have much more comfortable winter weather on average.

Why call it rezball? It’s called basketball it’s not like the name changes because you play it in a city gym, street, outdoor court, private property, etc.
