So- I had to abandon the PC scene for 12 yrs... . It is totally amazing how far the home PC has come in a mere handful of years. Back then AGP was the thing. And case lighting was in it's infancy with the only option being cold cathode lights, which were basically just fluorescent tubes. the performance was spotty at best, and color choices were barely even an option.. . Fast forward to today- O. M. Gawd!!! I started about a year ago to build my first PC in over a decade, and damn, the RGB options just blew my mind!!! Now the craze has grown even more. There's never in history been a better time to build computers that look as good as they run!!!

@Luke Lafreniere actually there is a small symbol (oval with three hollow dots) in the top right corner of the AURA panel that gives you the option to calibrate your RGB strip by sending power though each lane and asking you what color you got from it.

I actually bought the cable mod box and two strips kit a few months back now there the white foam and not the magnetic strips, the controller works well i ran the receiver along a fold in the hard drive bay with the header just sticking out facing the window panel so works well and the stips are bright and transition between hues smoothly, great little buy for what I believe was like maybe 15$ USD. I've painted my case twice now from a Dark purple and light teal Vanu Sovereignty ala planetside to its current rendition of a cherry red and black Elder Scrolls theme and having rbg lights were a huge life saver in terms of just being able to simply change the colors.

NZXT said something about the reason they used Molex for their Hue+. Something about the consistency of the 12 volts through the rail it was connected to, so it was on purpose to make things work the way they should, always.

Would be great to do an updated version of this video that shows both competing and compatible RGB controllers and standards such as the ASUS/NZXT and what peripherals can be controlled by them such as fans/strips/RAM/AIO coolers/GPU and maybe even mouse/keyboard etc.

I've created my own custom RGB LED lighting for my PC case. I actually responds to low frequency sounds and flashes to the beat. Addicted to BASS!

NZXT Hue+, GRID+ V2 , using CAM software for both in new rig. I've got nothin' but love for ASUS and Cablemod, but the NZXT solution just feels really smooth and well implemented so far.

I wish there was a shot with the light and side window on. I've DIY'd a RGB ledstrips to be powered via my PCU and controlled via remote. All I need now is a nice case to put them in. I've been thinking of getting the Mastercase pro/maker 5 so a shot with the side window on would've given a nice preview.

The strips are the same as they've used for a couple years for things like under counter lighting at the home improvement stores. Great to see the headers starting to become standardized. I love the concept... In fact, putting a plastic diffuser strip would give a nice subtle glow.

That foam adhesive breaks apart if you attempt to remove it which makes it difficult swap out or reposition the LED strips. Make sure the strip is installed in an easily accessible area because the left over from adhesive is a bit of pain in the ass to remove.

I don't usually do plugs. But I have a video I made after CES to mock the RGB lighting that's literally tossed into every product nowadays. Some would find it funny I suppose. Especially if you play league of legends or a lot of twitch. Anywho. Shameless plug. Sorry if it annoys someone. Literally never made a plug for myself before in a comment but this just fits so perfectly I figured it'd be a fun addition to it.

You know what would be way cooler? "Skinning" your PC case with something like e-Ink. Then you'd be able to control the look of the case as if it were another monitor. Grayscale or color. Or perhaps OLEDs? If that seems too pricey you could use Liquid Crystal heat sensitive pages to wrap around your case. It would be about the easiest way to see which parts of your computer are warmer or cooler.

The only motherboards I can find with the RGB is the Hero series of ASUS motherboards, which are all expensive. If you don't already have one of those motherboards it seems like the Hue+ is actually a cheaper overall option and has more functionality.

I just bought LED strips by ATTYOU on Amazon and they plug in via USB, so I bought a Internal USB header and it worked great! I've seen a lot of LED strips, but after a time, I know they fade pretty fast, my ATTYOU ones seem to last a long time so far.

I personally use Aquacomputer's Farbwerk (that also works great with any generic 5050 LED strips) and it does give me much more control over my case lighting but being able to control RGB LEDs without any additional hardware is a great thing IMHO.

From what I can see, the ASUS motherboards audio visualiser looks so much better and accurate compared to the NZXT Hue+, Hope NZXT improves on their visualiser to make it like this in the next update.

FYI, these cablemod lights are the exact same ones you can buy from ebay. In fact, anything that isn't nzxt, is likely to come out of the same chinese factory just with a different sticker. These are the exact same ones you would get from Deepcool, for example (with different glue solution from memory). Dont pay just for a sticker, do some research. If you have a soldering iron, you don't need cablemods special cable, you can just re-wire one that you have.

+Jason Smith what you are saying is not correct - read up the details before you post - we developed special LEDs for a more even lighting effect, improved the adhesive and offer a SATA power connection. Show me any other brand that offer this.

The magnetic strip is way better, easy to clean and maintain from dust. And they should have something that makes the lights turn off whenever it's daytime or a certain time of the day because some led strips heat up after a long time turned on.

Whats the assignment of the pins on the strip? The left one is labeled with +12V, but how much do the colors require(+/-)? I wanna make a DIY connection to the power supply without an adapter.

Ever heard of the Aqua Computer Farbwerk? Its great. You can plug up to 4 different RGB LED strips in and you can control them by either software or bluetooth. Its just 30 bucks and with some ghetto self build magnetic led strips from ebay I got pretty much the same thing for around 50 bucks.

Do you know of a good, affordable, *hardware controlled* RGB hub? One that you would use dials/buttons/whatever on a hardware box to set the color and maybe effect. I'm interested in this approach to minimize the amount of bloatware that keeps running in the background all the time. I've installed NZXT's CAM thingy (w/o the Hue+, just to monitor temps) and it was awful.

I wonder am I the only person like not having RGB lighting in their case in order to give it that dark cool look, besides using the corsair water cooler with a lighting effect to tell you what your cpu temp is. Having mostly dark case even with a side window has it own cool look, I was going to put RGB into my case but after looking at my case the way it was it looked pretty cool on it's own.

Is there a mode where your GPU gets to a certain temperature that changes the colour of your LED's? For example on the Asus STRIX motherboard, when the fans turn on, your LED turns Red from a cool blue.

Its a shame that the Cable Mod Hybrid RGB with White has a 5 pin whilst the Aura has only 4. I need the white hope they support white soon and bring out an adapter to connect 5 pin to 4

What size was the one at the bottom of his case? I'm trying to figure out what sizes I need for my Corsair 900D. Just picked up a Deep Cool RGB "With Aura Sync Ready" 360 kit, but it sucks.... It says it's aurasync ready, but when you have all the lights plugged in, it's impossible to route to your motherboard... WTF?

If you buy a blue LED strip and add it to your case how are they going to turn a different color when you use the Aura software? Do we have to buy every color LED strip to make it turn different colors? The software has a color pin wheel also. Does cable Mod have a set of LED strips that can be any color? You need to explain this in your video.

I am so confused about the different kind of headers. There is 12v GRB headers on my Asus motherboard, so that means I can use some LED strips? I hear I need an adapter now too???

The CableMod SATA connectors don't work? Tried 2 and they don't light up the strips, while they light up when connected to the RGB headers on my Crosshair 7 Hero.

I used a similar RGB strip for my blue themed PC. I went with white to offset the absurd amount of blue in my room. I must say, it looks really nice. And my PC isn't in my room, but a branch off of my room. So I can leave it on and still hope to sleep lol.

I like the 4pin Molex connectors. Makes it much easier to make up your own cables.

Although the Asus Maximus VII Hero does not have the RGB header on its motherboard, is there anyway I can hook up a RGB LED strip to a PWM fan header and get the functions of the (music, cpu temp) features on there from the Aura software?

Guys should make a video showing if the temperatures change using led lights and whitout ! On my pc make a diference betwen 2 to 4 celsius depending on the light color . Cheers

I got the 60cm RGB magnetic strip, well two of them. Seems there are 151 SMD resistors, which are 150ohm. Assuming diode forward bias is ~3v (that's rather high, I know), 3/150ohm = 20ma, per LED. My 60cm strip has 30x LEDs ~= 0.6A current draw - which the site doesn't state, and my Multimeter isn't on hand to test (just yet!). Hence, 3vdc*0.6A ~= 1.8W power draw per 60cm strip and I've assumed all the LEDs are in a parallel config. Can anyone confirm this? Luke? Linus? Dan?
