Sorry I didn't make it more clear in the video. The solo is from the Europe song Superstitious.

Ah, great solo, the rest of the song isn't my cup of tea. Just watched the Europe video a few times. You did a great job playing it. Practically impossible to mime someone else's feel. More of a G. Lynch guy, my favorite solo from the 80's is probably from The Hunter, by Lynch but then, I'm old.

Why don't you talk much about modes? This would be a good one for it... I think a lot of what you are wanting to describe about a song, could be explained modally, especially because of your love of the major scale. Although, that does require your viewers to understand them, & I think I just answered my own question. They're a lot easier than people think tho...

Hey Robert, love all your 80’s lessons. I was a teenager in the 80’s and fell in love with all the hair/glam metal bands but I played drums back then. Started playing guitar a little while ago and have all your courses. The Fretboard Decoder was amazing and turned me into a predominantly 3 note per string player immediately but that was just in the first position of G major. Do you have any videos out or would it be possible to do one on the rest of the 3 note per string positions of G major please. I would be forever grateful. I love all your lessons. Your the best. I have several online teachers and you are definitely my favorite as you focus more on the music styles I love the most. Keep rocking and teaching this great content.

Superstitious has ALWAYS been when of my favorite solos of all times, just the tone, phrasing, and feel is so memorable. 33 years later I still feel the same way. Another one is Rock The Night also by Europe off the same album. Also, Sign of the Times also from the same album in fact all the solos on Out Of This World the name of the album all these songs are from are amazing.

Well done! Actually, you played it correctly on a 22-fret guitar. To play it the way Kee Marcello does, you would need to play it on a 24-fret guitar, because the part of the solo where you walk it down and back up, would require an A# on B23. I've seen a video of John Norum playing it on a 22-fret and he plays it just as you have.
@YngtchieMusic
@YngtchieMusic 2 жыл бұрын
For some reason, Kee doesn't change positions when he plays it on 22-fret guitars, be it with Europe or solo on a Les Paul, so I think he kinda flubs that A# instead of switching positions. Since it's so fast, you don't really notice it, but having tried to learn it on a 22-fret guitar the way Kee does it live, it feels weird.

This is a great solo for you to highlight Robert. It shows the young cats what a great guitar player should do in a solo. The beginning motif sells the whole thing. Great leap playing is more than just exotic scales locked into a Metronome. It’s the things you were talking about, the nuances, the phrasing. People remember the melody.

Besides the "Final countdown" and "Superstitious" there are lots of other execptional songs from this 80's rock group like "Carrie", "Dreamer", "Tomorrow", "Rock The Night", "On The Lose", etc. They had fantastic musicians on the vocals and on every other instrument.
