The RHCP were already a well established group when John joined the band. Frusciante added a fresh new layer with his style that had a lot of Jimi Hendrix influences that meshed really well with that funk rock sound

Yes! I noticed right away. As a bass player it sucks when you're really jamming out when you're sitting and your strap starts falling and there's nothing you can do about it... I FELT relieved when he put back up lol

I'm so happy I stumbled upon this. There is a live performance that was done by Mike Portnoy, Billy Sheehan, Tony Mcalpine, and Derek Sherinian did in Japan where I caught a similar moment. Before I had any context, it got by me and I never would have thought twice. But there is a moment in the Acid Rain/A Change of Seasons video where Tony forgot to come in at a certain spot, this was due to starting treatment a short time prior to that night. In that moment he was disoriented, out of it just standing there, and he missed his mark to come in. Without skipping a beat, and the camera happened to be on Portnoy, but you can see him immediately pick up on it and he gets Tony's attention and counts him back in. It was really remarkable.
