To clarify, we use undershirt mics as a back up in case something goes wrong or if we move away from the desk, but the desk mic is indeed real, working, and is the only mic you’re hearing almost all of the time. It’s not a lie!!

No, you're right because what the viewers didn't want to do was HOLD the mothshake. It's the same thing as mamabirding the jellyfish in a previous episode, but I think they learned from that and switched the roles so Link didn't have to suffer as much.
