I consider it a completely different monster to what we usually associate 'fuzz' with nowadays. I use my MK1 clone as more of a super distortion just for the meanest tone possible

I have 4 different MK1 clones and they are all very different. The more simple the circuit the more important each component is. Reeves Electro has made a few great examples.

The individual octave circuit found in the EQD Hoof Reaper was also released as a stand-alone pedal called the Tentacle. For around a hundred bucks you can use it to add an analog octave up to any other dirt pedal as instructed in the video.

Hey Rhett, I'm happy that you've gotten the T.W.A.N.G project up and running! That being said, I would like to propose a joint venture between our foundations. I represent T-P.A.I.N, which is the Tone Paint Addiction Intervention Network. So far we have managed to rehabilitate and provide ongoing therapy and temporary housing assistance for a bunch of guys we found living in a dumpster in the alley behind the Murphy Lab. I look forward to working with you toward a better future for the tone obsessed. 🤘

Dang you, Rhett… !! How I’d LOOOOVE to be there blind testing all of these. Nothing better than immersing into an addictive fuzz tone, but man (goes without saying) is it subjective! You just know when you have what works under your fingers, and when it’s right… it’s REALLY right. Excellent comparison here, with gracious props to the good’ns! I tend to dig a fuzz that I can blend in to a plexi-ish broken clean “chunk”. One that may never leave my board, is the Benson Stonk Box… for its “colored boost” ability and coaxing some articulate “crying”bloom. Also super player dynamic. You can get it cookin, spitty…etc. but it’s magic (to me) lies in its overall pure versatility, BECAUSE of its dynamics. Cheers, Rhett. You’ve successfully injected G.A.S. Into my veins. Great video!!!

Bought a 1966 arbiter for $1200 bux. Best fuzz I've ever heard. Gotta get it down to like 65-70F or put it on an ice pack if its too hot. Sounds insane on my 68 super lead.... Takes all the curves and spits out something colorful. Also the knobs act totally different depending on if its ran thru the THD hotplate or if its just ran in to x2 basketweaves @ 8 ohms... If you got paper voice coils WATCH OUT. You gotta either use an attenuator or run it through 2 cabs because this thing is a speaker burner.

Favorite fuzz pedals 1. Analogman sunlion (Ge fuzz face) 2. Basic audio foxey lady (triangle muff) 3. Fulltone ultimate octave (foxx tone machine) 4. Frantone peach fuzz (big muff tht cleans up) 5. Kingtone silicon Very much partial to fuzz faces, germanium in particular, and early versions of big muff i.e. triangle and rams head. The civil war russian with a boost/od before and soft compression after. Ive tried a lot of fuzzes but havent owned a whole lot tbh unlike other categories of pedals. Wanted a sunlion since 2007 (im 30 now) and once I got one i was content. I mean its perfect when it works (germanium related bs) lol usually does, my room just gets a lil too hot sometimes since it used to be an attic. Usually not a problem tho. Would be if i had an outdoor summer gig sadly. Also selling a guitar pedal at a merch table is dope af.

it's a cool pedal, personally i don't like it, but i own it, and i appreciate it for what it is, and i agree that it would be nice to see some of these blues youtubers (or youvalvers if you're on the other side of the pond) try some more experimental kinds of fuzzes like the Carcosa, or some Seppuku or Dunwich stuff, nothing against the classics, and in the end, all the fuzz stuff is based on something classic anyway, but there's not really any sort of hidden gems in here, some great classsics, and some...objectively terrible pedals coughLIZARDQUEENcough i own that one too, and it is hands down one of the worst circuits ever "designed" and by designed, i mean, taking 2 good DIY builders' circuits and mashing them together with very unsuccessful results. it is so bad, and even though i don't feel bad for myself for owning it, i do feel compelled to urge people to not buy it...its so awful, just get a Foxx Tone Machine style pedal

So much food for thought... my first pedal as a kid was an orange/blue treadle Univox Super Fuzz. I sold it in '82 as I couldn't get it to make me sound like Pete Townshend; the Internet and DVD's would later show me that is THE pedal of Live at Leeds. I bought the Guyatone TZ2, but the rubber grommet is gone. Keeley made the Electric Mudd which is his version but a 4 knob for more control, but 6 Fairchild transistors gets octave fuzz and wacky beyond.... I just got a Tru-Fi ColorDriver, which is their update on the Coloursound Boost - with a master volume. sounds amazing into an overdrive or an amp that's breaking up. If you only have a clean amp, try putting an overdrive after your fuzz - much different sound that's usually better. Also have a Keeley Fuzz Head, but I need another Fuzz. We all do...

I bought the octahive v2 a few weeks ago and absolutely love it. It can do the lower gain fuzz, ring mod type of octave effects, and even becomes gated with certain settings. I was torn between that, the octaland, and the DBA octave clang that just got reissued. Id still love to try the others, but ended up pulling the trigger on the beetronics. I love how small it is with my crowded board. Now I just have to figure out how to fit the benson germanium preamp when it arrives, if I decide to keep it, which, based on all the demos ive seen, is very likely.

I personally am not a huge fuzz user, at least not as much as I used to be when I was really into the my bloody Valentine/Siamese Dream era pumpkins brand of shoegaze. I now would rather utilize fuzz pedals that clean up with volume knobs like the chase tone bc109c, benson germanium fuzz (which has an impedance knob) and the warm audio warm bender. Would love to try the Mythos Golden Fleece or au79. Seems similar to a germanium fuzz face.

I highly recommend *(for those that are poor like me) the behringer super fuzz- made me get rid of my vintage-ish big muff... I know there's better ones.. But if you learn to use the gain and eq knobs, you can actually get a lot of tones... Btw, I hate spending money on pedals, but I think I'm going to have to sell some things to try one of those JHS crayons (those sound soo freaking good)... Anyways, I love this channel, I rarely comment on here but I have to admit I'm jealous of a lot of the gear this dude has (especially that orange I've seen in some of the older videos)
