Random is way more fun than the canon fights for these because of how we see Goku and Vegeta all the time. Seeing random ones is neat especially since someone could end up with someone weak and have to work with that which is always fun to watch.

If you think about it... Piccolo was fused with Nail in Slug's movie. That makes him as strong as Second form Frieza. Piccolo got bodied by one of Slug's henchmen. Then Goku bodied his henchmen. And then Slug bodied Goku. And remember, Goku was "nearing" super Saiyan at the time too so I'm pretty sure Slug is stronger than SECOND FORM Frieza specifically.
