We finally were able to test our climber on some hangars. We ran into some major issues with chain stretching and skipping in addition to gearbox mounting issues. In the end were able to climb 3 times consecutively and would be able to continue to the traversal rung if we had it built.
These climbers are quite tricky and we recommend teams leave ample time for testing and tuning, as a lot of parts can break.

In the first few attempts we were unable to release the rotating arm hooks. We altered their shapes to make it easier for them to slip off

Is your cad model the correct hook shape?
@zoukeepers2431

no. we altered them to be much thicker. on the arm ones we cut off quite a bit to make it easier to remove when we transfer to the next rung

hey! this climber is insane!! i just a have one question though. what’s the purpose of waiting before extending the second arm/tilting backwards? once again, a really cool design overall!!
@zoukeepers2431
@zoukeepers2431 2 жыл бұрын
no purpose at all. we’re just manually changing the power of the arms at each step. once the different powers are coded, it should be a pretty fast climb

I assume this would work for the traversal bar as well, right? The slope and distance from the high bar to the traversal bar is the same as the mid bar to the high bar, and it seems like at 3:18 you're in the same position as 2:57, just on the high bar instead.
@zoukeepers2431
@zoukeepers2431 2 жыл бұрын
exactly! there is no reason we shouldn’t be able to make it all the way to the traversal rung. the only limiting factor would be time. but with fine tuning a routine, we think this climb can be done really fast

@@zoukeepers2431 Thanks, but not my team. I'm currently in middle school and finished my last FTC season about a month ago (Michigan) so I'm just interested in my brother's team. Also it's probably not the exact same design, but it's an elevator and pivot just like this, just probably not the same exact design.

Chain doesn't stretch unless it is overloaded. Chain rollers wear, but you didn't use it long enough to wear. So your brackets moved or deformed or the structure deformed, but consult chain manufacturers, "chain stretch" is a myth.

@zoukeepers2431

the arms that rotate. when they’re hooked on, we rotate them. but bc they are bearing the weight of the robot and the chassis is suspended, the robot is what rotates around the arms

@@zoukeepers2431 When you tilt your robot back to extend your two arms to grab the high bar, I'm not sure you are within the 16 in restriction of objects outside your robot chassis. It was hard from the angle I saw but nevertheless, amazing work in such short time.
@zoukeepers2431
@zoukeepers2431 2 жыл бұрын
we are in frame perimeter. because the elevator tilts with the chassis, it is always within frame perimeter no matter how high it is extended. the arms stay within 16” of frame perimeter even when folded completely forward. they can, however, extend outside 16” of frame perimeter if rotated all the way back. but we never need them to even rotate backwards outside of frame perimeter
