Loving the series Ribsy. Very thorough and understandable, thanks! A resource for sure! You might want to check your mic settings though, in this video and others it was clipping like crazy. Reduce the gain and maybe add some compression in post. Just thinking along with you

Love your series and your channel!!!! I was wondering, which one do you prefer the intrepid enlarger (if I’m mistaken for what I have seen) or the analog one?

This is such a great series! I never thought it would be possible to do colour prints at home but now I’m inspired to give it a shot. Just one question, I’m assuming once you’ve done your exposure with the enlarger you then have to load the paper into the drum while still being in the dark?

What base of settings do you start with for Cyan Magenta and Yellow to make a print ? What numbers do you start with is what I’m wondering ? Pretty good video though, very well explained. Darkroom color printing has always been daunting to me but matter of fact it seems even easier than black and white… well I mean, it’s as straight forward actually The only thing preventing me from jumping into it are : - The chemicals, although it seems it’s the same chemicals as for developing color rolls in terms of developer and the blix ? (Totally new to color, even for shooting so it means I would make the jump for developing my rolls as well) - The paper choice, doesn’t seem very big and I’d like a good texturised heavy artsy paper but so far I’ve only seen heavy resin coated paper color prints.. - Being totally clueless about individual color channels and fearing I may never really get watercolor/pastel kind of color range and effect I fear being disappointed investing time and money to get all the stuff for color printing but not really being able to produce what I’m looking for.. for color I always thought that going to a printer might be the best option to give me more choice of papers, fine tuning the Colors, possible edits of the picture itself and so on… Anyone ?

Thanks for these videos! im trying to get into doing my own prints at home. But I had some questions. Do you need different chemicals for when you're printing color or b&w or do the chemicals develop both? And do you need different paper for either color and b&w? I think thats where I’m hesitant
@ribsy

thank you so much for your amazing tutorial... If you would work with a constant temperature, what would it be? Is it 38,7 grad celsius? And why don't you use a fixing bath? I thought it is developer-bleach-fix? Thank you in advance!

I wish you would have gone a bit more into developing the paper - I’m on this video trying to figure out what gear I need, I have everything to print black and white, and a second colour enlarger. So far all the video about printing colour I see people running the paper through these huge machines after exposure, which I can’t afford right now…. Want to know a bit more about this drum thingy you’ve got

Thanks for this series! A couple of questions: I watched the Naked Photographer series aswell (I saw you commenting there) and I was just wondering about the processing part. He uses a pre-wash and talked about a few more steps that one may wanna take. Have you noticed that the pre-wash is unneccessary? He also dries the drum before placing a new sheet of paper there, do you do that? Thanks!
@ribsy
@ribsy 2 жыл бұрын
Hey - nope I never prewash nor do I dry the drum. I find it makes zero difference

@@ribsy Thanks mate! Another quick question: If I buy a 11x14 drum, will all smaller sizes fit or are there 'holders' to hold the print in place (so only selected sizes would fit) ?Thanks!

Suosittelen ehdottomasti kastelemaan paperin vedellä ennen kehitteen kaatamista rumpuun. RA-4 prosessi kestää ainoastaan 45 sekuntia 35 celsiusasteen lämpötilassa, joten epätasaisesti paperin pintaan levinnyt kehite aiheuttaa raidallisen kuvan. Rumpu on hyvä kuivata käytön jälkeen. Kunnon huuhtelu on tärkeää, koska kehite menee pilalle hyvinkin pienen valkaisukiinnitemäärän kulkeutumisesta kehitepulloon.

@@b6983832 Kiitos! Itseasiassa Tetenalin Ra-4 kemioiden data sheet ei suosittele esikastelua epätasaisten kehitystulosten vuoksi. Rummun huolellinen pesu varmasti tärkeää. Joo eiköhän ilman lämpötilakontrollia tulee varmasti aika epätasaista jälkeä, varsinkin toistettavuus ajatellen.

Hi, I have a question about the timer you are using. I have the exact same enlarger as you and when using it with my VIPONEL timer I find that it doesn't turn the light off instantly, but it takes some time for the light to turn off (it sort of fades). I have been told that this is due to the power supply, more specifically the capacitors inside which are being discharged via the light bulb as the timer cuts the power to the PSU. The solution, I have been told, is to plug the timer between the PSU and the enlarger, where it should cut the power to the bulb directly. The problem is that my timer only has the standard wall socket and the PSU has some sort of molex connector. The other issue as I have been told is that my clock is probably not gonna survive the 8,3 Amps that run through to the bulb. So I would love to know what is your setup i.e. what timer do you use. BTW I find your videos very useful and informative. Keep it up!

@@ribsy So what if I kee keep magenta and yellow at 0 and just work with cyan? I tried an experiment this evening by projecting a colour negative in the enlarger and viewing the enlargement through a negative image scanning app on my phone. It showed me the positive print I would be making and I seemed to notice that just altering the cyan changed the colour pretty satisfactorily.

Ribsy - You have a fun and useful channel. Keep the content coming!. A couple of question... Besler used to make color analyzers for darkroom work. They can be found on eBay for very reasonable amounts of money. Have you ever considered using one? With cost of materials being quite high it would seem like a good investment. Have you ever used your drum for black and white work? and is the enlarger your using the one announced by Interpid sometime back? I have a couple of traditional enlargers that haven't seen use in decades. They tend to be white elephants now days. The compactness of the intrepid enlarger is appealing. Finally, Ilford has announced a collapsible darkroom tent - maybe you could get one for review. All the best - Rich Ball
