And all he meant to say was that he prefers not to have to sleep.. Like some people don't like flying on an aircraft for instance.. Or maybe that's because they're scared.. I assume he's not scared of sleeping, maybe you can compare it to going to school. It's a necessity, but most of the time you would rather be somewhere else.

problem is, he didnt used to get wasted only on his mspare/free time. he used to do it all the time, and most of the time he is working. i saw him fuck up many times. i come from brazil and people here they gave up on booking him cuz he always fuck up. i was working on a booking agency and got to work with him once in 2011. it was a horrible experience in many different ways, his set was suposed to start at 2 am but he was so damn wasted he couldnt play, he only started ad 6:30 am. dont get me wrong it was a magnificent long set, very dark and trippy, very different from the usual ricardo, i dont mind people using drugs to play and shit but at least be professional.

@@pedrao420 Thank you for this. I actually wrote this comment 6 years ago, my thoughts on this (and him) have evolved a lot since then. I've been to see him plenty of times, twice he didn't turn up (once for a big festival appearance in London, he was one of the main reasons I bought the ticket (they only announced his cancellation 1-hour before he was due to come on, wouldn't go to Junction 2 again either, for lots of reasons apart from that), and other times he was too wasted to play. I think part of his charm, if you will, was that he was on the same wavelength as the people he was playing to, but that has its minuses too, when you don't turn up for shows or can't play for people who've paid to see you, that's about being professional as you say. I've seen Laurent Garnier play as many times, just as interesting a DJ and never cancels or is too messed up to DJ. My opinion of him as an artist really changed during the pandemic, I know it could be argued that governments around Europe took a cautious approach to Covid, but it was unprecedented times, the people like him and others who played plague raves for dodgy promoters in Europe and Asia have nothing but my contempt (there was a lot of them, I don't buy their records or gig tickets anymore and never will). It's a shame, seeing Villalobos at Fabric was one of the dates I always looked forward to, he loved that space and the crowd would follow him every step of the way, but his general unreliability as a performer and his disregard for people during the pandemic mean I don't care anymore, even though I recognise that when he's really on form he's superb, it's sad but how I feel.
