I just got chickens about two months ago; three little hens to start out with. I have two Dominiques and one Golden Comet and honestly, my Golden Comet is the MVP of my little flock. She started out being bullied by the two Dominiques, but is now the big boss on the yard. She is easily the most personable (and I DEFINITELY agree with the nosy bit) and lays for me reliably every day, with the rare every other day. I absolutely agree that she has had phenomenal shell thickness from the get-go and her eggs are huge! Any time I post pictures of my daily egg haul to praise my girls, even my chicken-keeping friends joke that I have a pet emu. I got my Dominiques because their coloring was stunning to me, and heavily considered just getting three of them or waiting it out for a Wyandotte, but instead picked up my Golden Comet on a whim with the promise that she'd lay more eggs, and boy has she come through, both laying-wise and personality-wise. She not only started laying earlier than the two Dominiques, but she also lays bigger, richer eggs and lays more regularly. She is also SO talkative and funny and she follows me around anytime I'm in their run. I would absolutely 10/10 recommend Golden Comets to anyone and I'm so glad you paid them some love in this video!

Spot on! My neighbor has a golden comet, and boy is she nosy. That chubby little hen will walk up and down my fence begging for some treats. My welsummer is exactly how you described, very independent, but when it comes to me she is the sweetest little thing. Thank you for the information, please make more chicken videos, they're the best!! ;)

Our customers have been so excited to try the blue and green eggs, for some reason people think they might taste different I guess. Ameraucana aren't that prolific of layers, but I've got a buff orpington-ameraucana cross that lays olive eggs and she lays a lot more.

First of all, great news about your husband. Prayers work. We are raising 30 birds right now after your recommendations of Buff Orpingtons and Black Austrolourps. They should start laying in July and we are ready. Had to sell our flock last year of Barred Rocks. Thanks for so much info which really helps. Would love to see a video of your barn, since I need to build ours soon.

Love your videos, I’m a chicken lover myself. I live in the city tho, already have way more than I’m allowed, but I want all the colors of eggs cause I sell them to hipsters at top dollar. This year adding dark layers to my flock, I have access to Cuckoo Marian’s, out of the 3 eggs in this video, would you say cuckoos lay closer to the black coppers? Wel summers come next week but I know they aren’t as dark as the Karan’s. Lol am I gonna be ok with cuckoos or should I try to search for black coppers? Subscribed too :)

I really like your videos. I have a 5 month Cooper Marian and she just laid her first small starter egg and it wasn't near as dark as I thought it would be and I noticed in your video you said "she's still working on her color" Are you saying a chickens egg color gets darker? This is good news if so but I have never heard this. ty for help and info.

Nice presentation on the eggs I must say. I wish that you had added a video of each one of these breeds for people that don't know what they look like. I do like the golden comet they are very gentle and start to lay at a very early age 4 months, however this breed needs to be replaced every two years as their eggling diminishes, and some people don't know this. Love all your videos.

Golden comets are hybrid varieties so they cant be bred if I recall correctly. There are a number of crosses that claim to be the source of Golden Comments. The most common is RIR x White Leghorn ( I know for a fact that the male RIR white Leghorn female cross produces a more white bird so the cross may be White leghorn male over RIR hens) Also Ive seen people selling comets that are Production Red (an unpure line of RIR) crossed with Rhode Island Whites. Regardless they are hybrid birds and will not breed true themselves though a percentage of offspring will share very similar traits. If you like them you will either buy new birds every year or have lines of the parentage and breed the crosses yourself.
