And Saban often mentions Don James whenever he speaks of his journey in the coaching profession. Don was one of the all-time greats, and Nick Saban will be the first one to tell you that.

And he's not the first coach from a Washington school to get the job at Alabama. Mike Price from WSU was hired in 2002 and fired in 2003 before coaching one game. :)

Already gone through the stages of despair, grief, anxiety and anger. Now, I'm excited for Kalen to go win the National championship with Alabama. No doubt it is within reach. Alabama is going to fall in love with Kalen. He is for real. Take him for who he is. He will have Alabama's offense playing at a HIGH level.

He won’t win a national championship. Can almost guarantee it, his entire career was playing glorified high school teams in South Dakota.. he beat up on teams like Montana state 🤣 he got lucky with lighting in a bottle in odunze and Penix. His recruiting is terrible

I think its best for the SEC to have a bigger variety of teams playing in the SEC championship game every year.. Alabama will still be contention for that game but you'll see LSU, Auburn, Texas A&M, Georgia, Missouri, South Carolina at the top of the SEC more often now. Its great to have a super program that's always at the top but its better to have parity where a higher percentage of the fanbases have a chance to win the conference.

As an Alabama fan congratulations to Michigan. I mean Alabama lost 23 games in 16 years. You ought to enjoy it when you beat them. However, I do feel compelled to point out Sabin outlasted 54 coaches in the SEC during his time at Bama, including a number of national championship winning coaches.

As a life-long Seattle and Washington football fan, this has been a miserable hell week. I'm sickened by the thought of Alabama. It'll be hard to ever root for soulless money grubbin' carpetbagger DeBoar for wrecking our recruiting and setting the program back. F - 'Bama. Pete Carroll ought to coach the UW for 3-4 years. That might might bring some prestige back to the program quickly.

Only if he gets help recruiting and defensively. He is a hell of a coach and a offensive genius BUT his bend but hopefully don't break defensive style will not work in the SEC any better than it worked against Michigan and he is not known as a great recruiter either.

Not an Alabama fan or Alabama hater. But hopefully he does well as there was a long dry spell between Bear Bryant and Nick Saban. Statistic that amazes me is that Nick Saban won more games in his 17 years than the sum total of the head coaches between Bear Bryant and Nick Saban in that 24-year stretch. Look at UCLA after John Wooden left and UNLV after Jerry Tarkanian left as both places have just been coaching turnstyles. Was at UNLV in 1989 when Tarkanian won it all and the Powers That Be thought they'd just bring in another coach and things would stay the same - didn't happen especially with UNLV as they've only been to the Sweet 16 once. UCLA has obviously had a lot more success with Final Fours, etc. but still coaches last there for a relatively short time as in the 48 years since 1975 when Wooden retired with 10 NCAA Titles, only 1 coach has won another Title (Harrick 1995). Average UCLA Coach lasts about 4 years.

@@neilopfer5687 Gene Stallings had a decent run in the early 90s but for the most part you're right. Another coaching turnstyle after a great coach retired is Nebraska after Tom Osborne retired from coaching. Nebraska isn't even an okay team that goes to lower tier bowls, they're just bad.

A huge betrayal by Deboer, of the school, the alumni, and most of all his players and students. It's just what CFL has devolved into...the portal which gives players the means to put themselves out for bid and jump ship. The coaches chasing the dollar. Neither shows any loyalty. It has truly become the minor leagues for the NFL.

I'm sure when he was visiting homes to recruit he made it clear to recruits and parents that even though they were being signed up for 4 yrs he himself might leave anytime he gets a better offer and someone else will be coaching, unknown who. He brought a team to the championship finals this year and didn't quite make it to the top. So, he decided to bail and leave behind all those 1-3 yr players who got a taste. Obviously he has every right to do what he did to pursue selfish goals, but to me it's disloyal to everyone vested in UW football. As for me, I'm not and wouldn't care if all of the CFL collapses. It's just an entertainment scheme to make money and build fiefdoms.

@@RexKwon Who mentioned education? That's the least consideration. Yes, some players have options which might serve their needs and not UW football. And what top of the line college players are now going to use the portal to come to UW in such an uncertain situation? Not many. Don't misunderstand me. He did everything legal to get out on his contractual commitment, not not morally because he's thrown his football players (and potentially all other future players he tries to recruit for whatever team) under the bus...sold them out for selfish reasons. What family would want their kid to play for a person like that whose word can't be trusted? The plus side is that UW has found out what a crud this guy is and should count their blessings not having their brand identified with someone of so low character.

Rich, I don't blame you for weaving Michigan into every conversation, especially when it comes to Washington. We beat you guys up so many times in the last three decades in the Rose Bowl. I'm guessing it still smarts some. Washington isn't nearly as good as it was back then, but we had hopes with DeBoer at the controls that we would get there again. Good man, good coach. If he can survive the pressure and the insane bias against Yankees coaching in the south, he'll do just fine.

Isnt this a lateral move? He is already a head coach at a top school. In reality UW had a better season than Alabama. Is he in the last year of his contract without a new deal?

Latetal move. Lol. He is succeeding the greatest coach In college football history, who by the way will still have quite A presence within the program. He is taking over the most dominant program in modern history. This all coming from an Auburn fan, who despises Alabama . Just gotta call it like i see it. He is going to find out teal quick just how intense the Iron Bowl Rivalry is and just how spoiled most of the fan base is. The first time he loses to Auburn, and it's coming soon, he will see those spoiled fans turn on him . The man needs A chance to get established. There will never be another Nick Saban, people have to understand that

If it wasn't for the transfer portal, they would have taken more time. But with so many moving players nowadays, teams want to get stable sooner rather than later. Players prefer to go somewhere that is known rather than unknown.

I’m not taking anything away from Michigan. But I am scratching my head about the amount of championships as the grand measuring stick. ALABAMA’S TROPHY CASE IS BIGGER THAN EVERY MAJOR PROGRAM IN THE COUNTRY!!!! And I’m not talking about the Ivy League schools who won NCs in the 18 whatevers.

Deboer does have a winning record but leading in Tuscaloosa is a whole different animal. Nick Saban had won at LSU before taking the Alabama job. It will be tough on DeBoer and he will have to hire a great Defensive Coordinator

What is the guy going to do with all of that talent? Man, oh man, I guess his stock has hit the stratosphere. I spent 22 years living in Alabama, and I know that if he doesn't get them into the final four every year for the first four seasons the Tide faithful are going to look at him like ohio fans look at Ryan Day right now. I have this awful pit in my stomach that a portion of the Tide fan base is going to go after him with a full court press if he doesn't make the finals this coming up year.

DeBoer should've stayed at Washington. He was building something special there. Now he goes to the ultimate pressure cooker in Alabama. For his sake, they better beat Auburn or he will regret this decision.
