Dick Enberg was simply the best. He always made anything better when he called it.

His work as lead play by play announcer for the California Angels in the 70s just spectacular. Howard Cosell wrote in his book that Dick Enberg was the best ever play by play announcer in baseball and football.

A Class Act......Mr. Enberg reminded me so much of my own late Father.....They sounded the same.....They BOTH kept their manners with them when dealing with everyday things and people. I will forever smile when I hear of think of "Oh My"!!

I met Dick Enberg in 1985 at a Raiders/Chiefs game in 1985. Very cordial and a very nice man.

Dick Enberg was a great broadcaster. He let the game be the focus. He seemed to have no ego and was more than willing to let his co-host/analyst be the center of attention. Mr. Enberg and Merlin Olsen were the best football announcers, in my opinion. No schtick to their broadcast. Just great play calling and analysis.

The Elway years were the best. I always looked forward to hear him call the Broncos games.

Great commentary, Rich. Enberg doesn't get the credit that he's due. He was interesting to listen to, but he did not make it about himself. Not, cute, not trite, not clichéd, smart, factual.

He also called the legendary UCLA-Notre Dame basketball game (1974) in which Notre Dame halted the Bruins' 88-game losing streak. He also found time to host "Baffle," the NBC game show that replaced "Concentration."
