From my understanding even though Shohei made 2 million a year in Japan he gave all his money to his mother to manage. She would give him $1000 a month in allowance Which he apparently did not spend all of that allowance every month. Now we are going to jump to the conclusion he was gambling millions

Ippei has a history of gambling, Shohei has no history nor any interest of gambling, and Ippie is known for lying. In 2018 Ippei claims that he graduated from the University of California-Riverside in 2007, and also claimed he workedcl as an interpreter for the Red Sox in 2012, that also was false on Ippeis part.

You people are too unimaginative. What if Mizuhara was required to translate all documents and remittances? After all, all the conversation here is speculation. My guess is based on his humanity and what he has said and done so far. What are yours? You guys make over $50 million a year from advertising alone, give me a rational reason why Otani would gamble. As for the money transfers, it is said that he left some of his accounts completely free to Mizuhara. So there was already such a trusting relationship. If you ask me to choose whether Otani is likely to gamble or not, I can only say that he is definitely not likely to!

People are really misunderstanding the entire situation. The initial statement is that Ippei said Ohtani bailed him out from gambling debts, Ohtani & his legal team said he did not do that and the money was stolen from him. Then, Ippei walked back his initial statement and we later found out he lied about his previous employments and school attendance. That’s the issue. I think shohei was unaware that he could be criminally implicated if he was aware of payments to an illegal bookmaking operation, and thats why the messaging has changed. It is definitely possible that shohei is doing the gambling here, I just think it's less likely. Shohei would have had no advantage with an illegal bookie vs draftkings. Didn't they discover that the interpreter has been lying about his background for quite awhile? Didn't attend UC Riverside like he said. Never interpreted for the Red Soxs like he said. There are things about his background that doesn't match up, which leads to some credibility that he lied to Shohei about the money. Whether the interpreter had access to Shohei's bank account, I don't know, but it's possible depending on how much Shohei trusted him. Then again, banks usually check to confirm wires of this amount, but they usually just call. How will they know the interpreter from Shohei if the interpreter does all the talking for him. OR, this is just Shohei throwing the interpreter under the bus.

It would have been better to wait until after Ohtani's press appearance on Monday before going through a litany of potential questions. Anyway, I listened to the full public statements by Ohtani and found him both sincere and very credible. He said he never bet on sports or had anyone bet on his behalf. He said he was unaware of Ippei's gambling addiction and that Ippei lied about the matter once it came to public attention that a bookie had Ohtani's name in his records. So the gist of this is that Ohtani's close friend, translator and associate betrayed him. There seems to be a contingent of haters posting here and elsewhere who distrust Ohtani's statements. That's their problem, slandering a man whose character has been well-established for many years now. Let the investigations go forward and see what more might be uncovered. But for now, I believe Ohtani has spoken honestly on the main points. Naturally, most of us would like to know how Ippei had so much access to at least one account with Ohtani's money. But it seems clear that Ohtani trusted his friend, and Ippei betrayed the trust. And, as mentioned in this video, it also seems clear now that Ippei lied about several key elements in his bio. Yikes, he may just be a convincing sociopath who finally met his reckoning. But the shadow this casts over Ohtani is really unfortunate. I do hope he will more thoroughly vet his associates and good friends moving forward.
