There's a fine line where parental training and upbringing of your child ends and their own personal choices, actions and responsibilities take over, no matter how well you may have done as a parent. So no, I don't believe dad intentionally set out to create a "Monster", which probably explains why you can see his shame and disappointment because that's not how he raised her. What happened to her is not the fault of anyone else except her own. All we can hope for is that she learns from it.

For those parents who care to hear my opinion, in my career(s), I've been both a police officer and a trial lawyer. When your kids get their driver's licenses, sit them down and have a talk about how to deal with the police during a traffic stop which will cause them and ultimately you, the least aggravation. 1. Comply and be polite. 95% of the time, that will help. 2. Do not argue. That's for the courtroom, not the side of the road. Take your video, file your complaint, go to Court, but forget arguing with the cop. It's pointless. If you're going to be given a break, that'll be out the window when the cop is considering his options. 3. Show your kids this video to establish how it can go. 4. Use your discretion with this, but if you suspect that impaired driving is an issue, tell them to envision the police coming to their home to tell you, their parent, that they're gone forever. One of the worst days ever for everybody involved. Been there, done that.
