I love this man, he is honest and open without a put on persona which I love. I would let him stammer forever and ever just to hear him speak. He is a beautiful man and hilarious and endearing.

Same issues as him, social anxiety, bullying and severely socially awkward - I only wish people said about me what you've said about Richard.

I wholly agree with the sentiment, considering he's my favourite comedian, but he's almost always putting on a persona. It's the reason he never laughs on these things. The only time you truly see his personality is in the IT Crowd outtakes (which you can find on KZfaq), and some obscure interviews/podcasts he's been on - I can't remember what it's called but he was on one with Noel Fielding at some point and giggling continually. It was very endearing.

Yeah I agree with ConspiracyJuice, he's definitely putting on a persona. In fact, he has one of the obvious personas of pretty much all the comedians I like. The whole deadpan thing is put on, in one of his interviews he's holding in laughter at the jokes he's telling, because not laughing is his thing

As a person on the spectrum, his behavior is so relatable. I’m not gonna diagnose him based on television, but his mannerisms, blatant honesty and playing on smart bits of wit is extremely relatable for a lot of people living with autism. The biggest hint in this video was his reference social anxiety and commenting on the fact that eye contact is not natural for him

@Fee Howard He’s certainly one of the biggest Autistic coded personalities out there. I would be super proud of him if he did “come out” but I don’t think that kind of acknowledgment would interest him.

It's interesting how 'awkwardness' can transform into something cool when mixed with an unapologetic, self-aware character. He's not actually awkward. Real social awkwardness is cringy/painful to watch. Richard on the other had, with his frankness and apparent lack of care for social convention, is refreshing to watch.

Yeah, he is awkward but also able to dominate a conversation at the same time. A strange combination.
@LyricalDJ
@LyricalDJ 4 жыл бұрын
I think part of it is that awkwardness (and I speak of my own experience) is often internally acted out as much as if not more than externally. Which leads to the awkward person acting seemingly incomprehensibly to the onlooker (unless they know that person or such behaviour, perhaps). And another part is the _feel_ of it. Richard is (or seems).. er.. strong in the face of his own awkwardness. He plays with it, uses it, owns it. I really enjoy his BAFTA acceptance speech and to me it embodies that. Soldiering on in the face of adversity.

Ayoade isn’t really awkward or has social anxiety. He plays the character

@@falconcakes768 In older interviews you can see real social anxiety. Maybe he's got that part sorted now, I don't know. But I don't think he's making it up when he says that.

You can actively see the transition between Richard the person and Richard the performer at 1:00, and then back again at 1:16. It's fascinating to see the difference between his two personalities that he can turn on and off with a second's notice.

I went to the Submarine screening at the Tribeca Film Festival. He gave a brief interview/Q&A after, and spoke with some of the audience members as the event ended. He seemed to me to be somewhat uncomfortable with the attention he was getting. Mind, the *_vast_* majority of the audience were 20-something women who would've happily dragged him off. I was 40-something, but understood the impulse. He is much handsomer in person.

It's probably not correct to fully credit Linehan with the casting of his sitcoms but in so far as he was responsible, he knocked it out of the park with both Ted and the IT crowd. I couldn't imagine anyone else as Moss.

I reckon Richard would make a spot on Doctor Who, I think his social anxiety would suit the role brilliantly, he could be awkward and shy but then save the day when nobody expects it, the baddies would be thinking "What the f**k happened there?" hahaha

I like Richard but I find it so annoying how all comedians and other celebrities all consider themselves socially awkward. He is clearly not bad with ppl at all, he’s very confident and eloquent
@jessicarecklay1788
@jessicarecklay1788 6 жыл бұрын
Ethan Mackenzie socially awkward just means he doesn’t always feel comfortable. He may not have diagnosed ‘social anxiety’ to a point he finds it difficult to talk, just may not feel comfortable in social situation and may prefer not to be there. Confidence can be faked and if a persona is put on top this can make it easier. You’re not a psychologist or therapist, try not to diagnose how people feel over interviews
