If I could only take one Burton movie scene to a desert island, this would it. Politically, I'm entirely with the sentiments expressed and the delivery is perfect. The voice is perfect too. What an actor he was.

This is one of the best set piece movie speeches I've ever seen. Burton's delivery made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. It just doesn't get any better than that.

The guy on trial, james hazeldine, went on to be a great actor, with real screen presence. Watched as a youngster the film made quite an impression, doesn't make the same grade re-watching it now, but this scene was top notch.

There is a great scene with Morlar and his wife The way he talks to her is terrifying She says "don't expect me back" and he says " I wont" In his oh so smooth velvet voice 😉

I recall watching this as a child and rewinding our BetaMax VCR over and over again until I memorized his entire opening argument. Sir Richard was the absolute best.

I adore the late great Lee Remick ! She didn't make as many films as most of her contemporaries but in each one she was memorable & mesmerizing !

The Medusa Touch didn't quite make it as a great movie, but that certainly wasn't Richard Burton's fault. His courtroom scene was magnificent.

russell brown I agrre however as a film of its genre very good

fatterelvis After a good start, and some great "Burton stuff" in the middle, it all seemed to fall apart towards the end of the film. Happens a lot in movieland when the production budget thins out, and many potentially great films have fallen short in this manner. My favourite Burton film will always be "Villain", and if you're right into TELEKINESIS !!! then try and track down the 70's movie "Patrick". Very..... Australian, but quite scary. Its even got Aussie arts icon Sir Robert Helpmann in it.

How right you are ! It was a case of the actor being much better than the material !

This scene is very pertinent, from classic horror film, of the hypocrisy of the establishment when it comes to Rememberance Sunday. The question clearly put here is are we in danger of glorifying war with these monuments and museums?

What happened to the scene uploaded with Jeremy Brett? Damn KZfaq keeps hiding things...anyone able to find it and share the link? Think it was "Richard Burton Acting Masterclass" or "Acting his socks off"...

Where's the bit where Burton says, "Broadsword to Danny Boy"?

Why did he get 9 years? Was the judge angry about what Burton said and decided to take it out on the defendant? The dirty looks as he was being led away.

Great scene. I have family that fought in WW2 and I don't agree with blowing up the Imperial War Museum, but I can see what's he getting at. This is a speech is more relevant the pointless wars fought today against fake WMDs in Iraq and ISIS all for oil. And Lovelace only uttered WORDS. Words do not blow up little girls at pop concerts or throw acid in innocent peoples' faces . . . Does make you think.

The IWM is a bullshit exhibit on past glories based on a lie. Britain is unraveling fast as did it's empire after 1945, America is not far behind.

Tony Blair's words blew up plenty of little girls. I for one am with the writer of the script. The bloody place should be blown sky high.
