Gasquet won 6:3, 7:6 (5). In this match Roddick shows how perfect he waste three setpoints...But it was a good match and Gasquet played really good. Gasquet is the Backhandking!

Gasquet sets up his backhand brilliantly. His forehand is usually mediocre, but he seemed to be hitting it very well. Also his serve was very good, a reason why he had some success in the tournament

Incredible shot making from both guys. I expected it from Gasquet. I didn't from Roddick. In the end though, I'm left speechless again watching those backhands from Gasquet.

i rarely comment on videos...less so in tennis highlights...but this by far is the best highlights i have seen and i've seen them all...most highlights just are just edited for the amazing rally's which i like however it takes away the thrill of the actual match because we don't know what the scores are...but this highlights still maintains that level of excitement because you showed us the importance of a certain break point which i salut to you, please make more of these types of highlights

I agree, he became more passive, over the years, especially from the baseline, attacking less and not taking more control, in the rallies and for some reason, his forehand, lost that awesome power..I recognize this..his game did ressurge a bit more in 2009, after he lost weight and got into really great shape..

this loss wounded Andy's 2011 season. He had a 16-2 record heading into this match and he was playing well because he won Memphis, and he made the final in Brisbane

Not that I'm a part of this but look up Roddick Never Hit a Big Forehand, it's a two-part video and just what you're looking for. It shows the old power-playing, flat hitting Roddick of the pre-2006 era.

@Shadevortex2 Anywhere from Eastern to Semi-western, depending on the shot, he just turns his wrist on the take-back so it looks like a continental. If you google images of Gasquet's forehand at contact, it looks far more normal than it does in real time.

@MaratSafinVideos I shouldn't have said that his volleys have become better, but that he has a net game (somewhat), he never used to go up to the net, only to finish points.

Gasquet is a good player. But to be a top player, he should improve his forehand and learn to play more aggressively.

@Kiasko

His single handed back hand is so powerful but it seems like it needs more preparation and if its a reaching backhand its hard to do a backhand wrist snap with power. I want to see a player in future to be able to use both single handed and doubled handed backhands.

a-rod always played with spin and he does flatten his forehand in certain moments.. if you hit flat all the time, you´re playing high risk and you will probably make more unforced error´s..andys backhand is a flatter shot and he usually hits his backhand, on the rise.

@federerownz well its not really Nadal playing mor passively. when he's aggressive he'll move you side to side n try to create big opening for a winner. He doesn't try to crack one unless it's big enough for him generally. other times, Nadal finds himself pushed far back and finds it tough, like Murray at times to get back inside. Roddick is more passive as he doesn't really try to create opportunities often enough, and mostly hangs way behind, not really looking to find a way back.

he is. but he gets a lot of air under the ball its not an easy play to pull off repeatedly. Andy murray hits a lot of drop shots against gasquet and it works.

You can see with his ball striking and powerful FH that if Roddick would stop playing those cheeky slices he would win more points against guys like Gasquet, Lopez, Simon etc. In a rally once the opportunity arrives Andy has got to go for a poweful FH winner to many times he goes for a volley FH or slice it does not work that shot punished way too much in this match.

alive in 03 ok? he plays passively because he doesnt believe in himself as much when he was young. Nadal plays more passive then Roddick and it seems to work for him. he generates way more spin than Roddick and works for him. how do u think u generate spin and pace?

anyone know what gasquet said at the end to roddick? and man... arod had 2 break point to take it to a 3rd set but i guess he got nervous and went back to slicing "/ ... i really want him to win some tournaments before he gets too old since roger federer screwed him over so many times. he deserves it

to think, if ARod had played the entire match the way he tried to play the 2nd half of the 2nd set, he might have won (minus the poorly executed set point returns) I wonder if he thought he was gonna make a comeback like in Miami last year against Rafa. It's a similar scenario, he's down a set and midway through the 2nd set he decides to go for much more. His plan B should be his plan A

why are people saying gasquet's forehand is that bad? it's just normal. He tries to spin it a lot, hit it a bit like nadal (but not as good obviously). You don't become number 14 in the world with just a terrible forehand. The opponent would just exploit the weaker side.

not true, roddick uses his leg´s a lot, especially on serve..he bend´s his leg´s way down and explodes up, when he serves and when he´s setting up his groundstrokes, his knees are usually well bent, his position is low, before hitting the ball.

The only reason gasquet won was because roddick doesnt try to go after points. He lets the game play him, not him playing the game.

@MaratSafinVideos yea i agree, his technique is sooo bad that hes not able to hit the ball hard when he wants to thats y it looks like hes flailing his body when he hits. Roddick is a big guy but cant do anything with the ball. only reason he stayed in top 20 because of his serve. its not a coincidence Federer kills him everytime they play. no spin no variety poor technique.

No offense, but even I have a better backhand than Roddick does. There's no pace or anything on that backhand. It's a very defensive shot, and it's never offensive. He also needs to flatten out his forehand, there's not a lot of pace, there's only spin. He also needs to take advantage of his serve and volley game, his volleys have been a lot better these past five years.
